Provided is a valve assembly and method for opening and closing thereof. The valve assembly, in one aspect, includes a valve body having inlet and outlet flow passageways connected by a valve chamber, and a ball valve member having a bore there through creating a ball/bore interface, the ball valve member located in the valve chamber for selective rotation between valve open and valve closed positions to control flow through the valve assembly. The valve assembly, according to this aspect, includes a linear actuation member slideable to engage proximate the ball/bore interface to assist in moving the ball valve member to the valve closed position.

Advanced loading method for ball rotation cutting and method of use therefor

A method of actuating a subsea tree comprising opening a valve assembly by transferring a first volume of fluid into a first chamber and closing the valve assembly from the open position to a shear position via a gas charged valve actuator in response to the transfer of fluid out of the first chamber. Shearing a workstring positioned within an axial bore of the valve assembly with the valve via the gas charged valve actuator. Closing the valve from the shear position to a closed position with one or more gas charged push rods to isolate the wellbore above from the wellbore below the closed valve. The shearing force generated from the gas charged valve actuator is greater than the closing force of the one or more push rods.

Subsea test tree fast ball actuation with low pressure pump through capability

A system includes a ball valve positionable along a fluid flow path of a wellbore. The ball valve is movable between an open position, where fluid is able to flow through the fluid flow path, and a closed position, where the fluid is prevented from flowing through the fluid flow path. The system also includes an electric motor coupled to a drive system within a trunnion of the ball valve. The electric motor drives rotation of the ball valve to move the ball valve between the open position and the closed position. Further, the system includes a power source electrically coupled to the electric motor to provide power to the electric motor.

A system for serving as a connection interface between a lower landing string and an upper landing string is provided. The system includes a quick union device comprising a first quick union component that is operable to couple to the upper landing string and a second quick union component that is operable to couple to the lower landing string. The first quick union component and the second quick union component respectively include a self-aligning threading interface that provides hydraulic and electrical connections when the first and second quick union components are connected to one another. The quick union device provides real-time feedback via wireless communication transducers that measure pressure and report that the measured pressure is retained in a plurality of hydraulic lines of the second quick union component when the first and second quick union components are disconnected from one another.

A modular manifold system includes a first manifold ring which comprises a first tubular body defined by an inner wall, an outer wall, a first end, and a second end. The inner wall and the outer wall extend between the first end and the second end. The first manifold ring also includes a first path formed between the inner wall and the outer wall and extending to at least one of the first end and the second end. At least one of the first end and second end comprises a coupling feature configured to couple the first manifold ring to a second manifold ring or well equipment. The first path is put in fluid communication or electrical communication with the second manifold ring or well equipment when the first manifold ring is coupled to the second manifold ring.

A disclosed method of downhole tool system development comprises: receiving specifications of a downhole tool system that comprises multiple strings, each string having one or more components; and checking for interference between the multiple strings in an initial position. A disclosed system comprises: a memory that stores software; and a processor coupled to the memory to execute the software. The software causes the processor to provide a graphical user interface that enables a user to specify a downhole tool system having multiple strings, and to test the strings for diametrical overlap attributable to relative motion of the strings.

The inventions provide apparatus and methods for radially expanding a tubular deployed in a subterranean well by moving an expansion tool axially through the well. An expansion tool apparatus may have wear faces attached to at least a portion of the outer periphery of a mandrel for contacting the interior surface of the pipe, tube, or screen during expansion. According to another aspect of the invention, an expansion tool has a controlled egress seal between the outer surface of the tool and the inside surface of the expandable tubular. According to another aspect of the invention, an automatically variable diameter expansion tool is provided having a variable diameter cone, which expands, and contracts based on input from one or more sensors. According to another aspect of the invention, an apparatus and method for expanding a length of screen assembly in a subterranean wellbore is provided.

A downhole tool for use in a well bore comprises an onboard navigation system for determining the location of the tool within the well bore, wherein the tool is moved along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force. A method of locating a downhole tool in a well bore comprises deploying the tool along at least a partial length of the well bore via an external force, and self-determining the location of the tool without receiving communications from the surface. In an embodiment, the tool is a well bore zonal isolation device.

Downhole seal assembly and method for use of same

In accordance with the present invention, a downhole separation tool is provided which utilizes a downhole separation chamber with a series of fluid regulators responsive to a formation fluid and constituent components for separate desirable formation yields from the less desirable yields prior to lifting the fluids to the surface. The separation chamber has an input for the formation fluid, a production output, and a disposal output, in a tree arrangement according to the density order of the fluids in the separation chamber. The input flow regulator is coupled to the separation chamber input, the production regulator is coupled to the production output, and the disposal regulator is coupled to the disposal output. Each of the regulators are responsive to a fluid density of the formation fluid, first constituent and remainder constituent, accordingly, to regulate the flow of the respective fluid. According to a method of the present invention of separating a production fluid downhole, a production fluid is flowed from a subterranean formation into a separation chamber. The production fluid is separated over a given residence time period into a series of constituent layers. The first constituent, such as oil, is lifted in a generally continuously manner when under sufficient pressure to the surface, and the remainder constituent, such as salt water, is disposed to a disposal layer in the subterranean formation.

Downhole separator for use in a subterranean well and method

A tool and method for managing fluid flow in a well use flow control and monitoring functions. A particular tool provides valve and metering functions combined with electrical generator and pump functions. Two of these tools can be used such that one generates electricity downhole to power the other tool to operate as a pump or other flow control. A method of managing fluid flow in a well includes operating the tool in either a generator mode or a pump mode. The tool, which is a flow control device, has a body in which an opening is defined between an annulus outside the body and a flow channel inside. The tool also has a flow control body, a rotor and electromagnetic members. A method includes moving the flow control body, the rotor, and the electromagnetic members together to selectively block or unblock the opening. In a particular version of this method, this movement is axially within the body of the flow control device. A method also includes: producing a fluid from a subterranean formation into the well; separating, in the well, water from hydrocarbons of the fluid; and reinjecting, from within the well, the separated water. Another definition of the method includes generating electricity in the well and operating a pump in the well with the electricity.

Tool for managing fluid flow in a well

A retainer valve provides increased safety in wellsite operations. In a preferred embodiment, operation of the retainer valve may be responsive to control line pressure or to tubing pressure. The retainer valve response is controlled by several factors, among which are relative tubing and balance line pressures, and axial positions of a number of pistons relative to a tubular J-slot member. If the control and balance lines are disconnected, or otherwise unavailable for operation of the valve, it may still be operated by manipulation of the tubing pressure at the earth's surface. Thus, the valve may be opened in emergency situations in which the control and balance lines are unavailable, but operation of the valve is still needed in order to safely relieve trapped pressure in the tubing string and/or to kill the well, unlatch a subsea test tree, etc. The retainer valve is also useful as a lubricator valve.
