Tubes for use in ultrahigh pressure devices, and associated systems and methods of manufacture are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a metal tube includes an elongate bore having a circular transverse cross-sectional shape. The metal tube also includes an elongate wall extending around the bore and having an annular transverse cross-sectional shape with an inner surface closest to the bore, an outer surface furthest from the bore, and a wall thickness extending from the inner surface to the outer surface. An inner portion of the wall is under swage-autofrettage-induced overall compressive stress.

Mechanical processing of high aspect ratio metallic tubing and related technology

High pressure pumps and associated check valves for use with, e.g., waterjet systems, are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, high pressure pumps configured in accordance with the present disclosure include check valve assemblies that eliminate threaded parts for restricting the motion of check valve components which are subjected to very high pressure variations at relatively high frequencies. Additionally, embodiments of the pumps described herein can include unitary structures that integrate the individual parts associated with multiple cylinders (e.g., cylinders, check valve bodies, etc.) into a single part (e.g., a cylinder manifold, check valve manifold, outlet manifold, etc.) that can substantially reduce the number of different parts required to assemble the pump.

High pressure pumps having a check valve keeper and associated systems and methods

A waterjet system in accordance with at least some embodiments of the present technology includes a tube configured to carry ultrahigh pressure liquid, and a fitting connected to an end portion of the tube. The fitting includes a body and a clamping block that secures the tube to the body. The body includes a recess, a passage extending inwardly from the recess, a sealing surface extending around the passage, and a sidewall extending around the sealing surface. The sealing surface meets the sidewall at an annular corner within the recess. The clamping block includes first, second, and third through holes spaced apart from one another. The tube extends through the first through hole and is secured to the clamping block via a threaded connection. First and second clamping bolts extend through the first and second through holes, respectively, and into respective threaded openings in the body.

Ultrahigh pressure fitting with recessed sealing surface and related technology

High pressure pump systems with reduced pressure ripple for use with waterjet systems and other systems are described herein. A pump system configured in accordance with a particular embodiment includes four reciprocating members operably coupled to a crankshaft at 90 degree phase angles. The reciprocating members can include plungers operably disposed in corresponding cylinders and configured to compress fluid (e.g., water) in the cylinders to pressures suitable for waterjet processing, such as pressures exceeding 30,000 psi.

Pump systems and associated methods for use with waterjet systems and other high pressure fluid systems

A pressure pump may include a reciprocating assembly including a dynamic seal configured to be in sliding contact with a surface. The surface may be implanted with positive ions such as hydrogen ions/protons to provided reduced wear and/or greater service life of the dynamic seal. According to embodiments, a pump may include an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene dynamic seal may substantially fixed relative to a cylinder wall, and a proton impregnated reciprocating plunger may pump high pressure water or a water based fluid in a system. The pump may exhibit increased dynamic seal life.

Method for making a pump system with enhanced dynamic seal reliability

Various embodiments of waterjet cutting systems are described herein. In one embodiment, a waterjet cutting system includes a waterjet cutting device coupled to a pressurized water source. The waterjet cutting device includes a waterjet cutting head and a fluid conduit configured to carry pressurized water to the waterjet cutting head. The fluid conduit has a wall defining a longitudinal passage through which the pressurized water travels. The fluid conduit also has a through hole extending from the outer surface of the wall to the longitudinal passage. The through hole has a cross-sectional shape with a maximum longitudinal dimension generally parallel to the longitudinal passage and a maximum latitudinal dimension generally perpendicular to the longitudinal passage. In one aspect of this embodiment, the maximum longitudinal dimension is greater than the maximum latitudinal dimension. Methods of forming fluid conduits according to various embodiments are also described herein.

Waterjet cutting system fluid conduits and associated methods

In a pressure vessel, pressure fitting, or pressure component, service use may result in the propagation of fatigue cracks. According to embodiments, a leak channel may be designed and formed to cause a pressurized fluid nominally contained by the pressure member to leak after formation of a fatigue crack, rather than undergoing a more catastrophic burst failure. According to an embodiment, a method is taught for determining the propensity of fatigue cracks to form, determining the location of the possible fatigue cracks, and determining a location for a leak channel, leak hole, weep hole, etc. for preventing burst failure. According to an embodiment, a computer program performs steps to design leak channels for prevention of burst failures in favor of leak-before-burst (LBB) failures.

Method and apparatus for providing leak-before-burst failure of a pressurized component

A hydraulic drilling jar for use in association with downhole drilling and adaptable for connection between components of a drill string or the like. The hydraulic drilling jar generally comprises an outer generally hollow hydraulic housing, an inner mandrel assembly, an anvil portion, a hammer portion, and a hydraulic valve. The hydraulic housing has an enclosed first end and an open second end with the first end releasably securable to a first component of the drill string. The mandrel has a first end releasably securable to a second component of the drill string and a second end slidably receivable within the open second end of the hydraulic housing to forming an internal fluid chamber between the mandrel and the housing. The mandrel is also slidable within the outer housing from a contracted position to an extended position. The hydraulic housing and the mandrel operatively connect the first and second components of the drill string. One of the anvil and the hammer portions is situated on the hydraulic housing and the other is situated on the mandrel assembly. The hydraulic valve is received around the second end of the mandrel and within fluid chamber. Upon extension of the drilling jar through the application of a tensile load between the housing and the mandrel, the valve seats against the housing and the mandrel to bifurcate the fluid chamber into first and second portions while pressurizing the first portion of the fluid chamber to place the hydraulic drilling jar in a cocked configuration. Further extension of the hydraulic drilling jar causes the valve to become unseated allowing for rapid de-pressurization of the first portion of the fluid chamber and a resulting rapid further extension of the hydraulic drilling jar with high impact loading of the anvil and the hammer portions.
