An aerial shell comprising at least one combustible layer of combustible material, the at least one combustible layer including an outermost combustible layer surrounding the at least one combustible layer, the outermost combustible layer configured to ignite on substantially an entire outer surface, the outermost combustible layer including a relatively higher combustion rate than the at least one combustible layer; the at least one combustible layer including an innermost combustible layer surrounding and containing at least one pyrotechnic effect and a dispersive explosive charge; the at least one pyrotechnic effect is preferentially disposed with respect to the innermost combustible layer at least one of immediately adjacent including integral with an inner surface of the innermost combustible layer and spaced away from the inner surface of the innermost combustible layer; the at least one combustible layer configured to burn substantially throughout the at least one combustible layer.

Debris-free combustible aerial shell with improved pyrotechnic dispersion

A projectile launch container configured to propel one or more projectiles associated with pyrotechnic effects including a gas flow insert comprising a first face and a second face, the gas flow insert configured to be placed within the projectile launch container, the first face configured to underlie the projectiles and the second face configured to overlie a lift charge; the gas flow insert including a plurality of gas flow openings each fluidly connected to one or more gas flow channels that extend at least substantially axially to the launch container between the first and second faces, the plurality of gas flow openings on each of the first and second faces configured to control a flow of gases from an exploding lift charge entering the second face and exiting the first face; wherein the gas flow insert is configured to remain within the projectile launch container following detonation of the lift charge.

Mortar gas flow insert

A pyrotechnic projectile including an aerial shell, the aerial shell including at least one combustible layer of material; the at least one layer surrounding and containing at least one pyrotechnic effect and a dispersive explosive charge; the at least one combustible layer including a combustible material configured to burn substantially throughout the at least one layer; and wherein the at least one combustible layer is configured to burn through a thickness at a preselected rate to thereby ignite the dispersive explosive charge.

Fuel/air concussion apparatus

A container, such as a bottle or jar, that includes a closed compartment and an active insert device for pressurizing the closed compartment. The active insert device comprises an elastic liner and an active insert that are affixed to a closure or cap or the container. The active insert includes at least one reactant that is triggered to a reaction by an external energy source. The reaction produces a gas, which is delivered to the closed compartment via the liner. The gas causes the liner to expand and open a passage to deliver the gas to the closed compartment.

Method for pressurizing containers

A pyrotechnic device including a combustion chamber including a wall, the combustion chamber containing combustible powder; an ignition source adapted to ignite said combustible powder within said combustion chamber; wherein the wall of the combustion chamber is adapted to burst at a predetermined pressure caused by combustion of the combustible powder; wherein the combustion chamber is disposed within a launch structure beneath a projectile and wherein a preselected amount of free space volume is disposed between said combustion chamber and said projectile.

Spooling pyrotechnic device

A container comprising a compartment and a closure, which hermetically seals the compartment. The closure comprises an active insert device that comprises one or more reactants that when initiated enter into a diazotization reaction produces nitrogen gas which is delivered to the compartment to increase the pressure of the compartment. The active insert device includes a filter that filters the gas and a vent port through which the gas is delivered to the compartment. A seal opens and closes the vent port based on a pressure difference between the compartment and the vent port side of the seal.

Synthesis of an energetic nitrate ester

Nanoporous metal foams are prepared by ignition of high nitrogen transition metal complexes. The ammonium salts of iron(III) tris[bi(tetrazolato)-amine], cobalt(III) tris(bi(tetrazolato)amine), and high nitrogen compounds of copper and silver were prepared as loose powders, pressed into pellets and wafers, and ignited under an inert atmosphere to form nanoporous metal foam monoliths having very high surface area and very low density.
