Remotely configuring an online computer system. A configuration file is generated at a management controller associated with a computer system in response to a request from a configuration utility associated with a user device, wherein the user device is located remotely from the computer system. The configuration file is sent from the management controller to the configuration utility via a network connection. A modified configuration file is received at the management controller from the configuration utility via the network connection, wherein the modified configuration file comprises system level changes to a configuration of the computer system. The system level changes from the modified configuration file are implemented at the computer system while an operating system associated with the computer system is online.

Maintaining system firmware images remotely using a distributed file system protocol is described. A method of preserving a system firmware image on a computer includes identifying that system firmware on the computer is to be updated with a new image, identifying an original image of the system firmware using a management processor of the computer, establishing a network connection to a remote storage system through a network interface of the computer using the management processor, sending the original image through the network connection to the remote storage system using a distributed file system protocol.

The power controller provides a plurality of power control signals. Each power control signal is provided to and controls the power consumption of one of the plurality of removable compute nodes.

Systems and methods for adjusting component voltage are disclosed. One example method includes: reading, over a control bus, a present value of voltage supplied to a component; comparing the present value of the voltage component to a predetermined minimum voltage associated with the component; and writing, over the control bus, a current setting that affects voltage provided to the component, wherein the writing is responsive to the comparison.

A system and method for controlling airflow in a computer system enclosure are described herein. A computer system includes an enclosure and an airflow controller. The enclosure is configured to contain a plurality of compute nodes. The airflow controller configured to control a flow of air provided to each of the plurality of compute nodes. The airflow controller is configured to receive unsolicited requests for airflow from each of the plurality of compute nodes. The airflow controller is further configured to control airflow provided to a given compute node based on the unsolicited airflow requests received from a subset of the compute nodes, including the given node. The subset of the compute nodes is assigned to a same airflow zone by the airflow controller.

Embodiments include methods, apparatus, and systems using a system read only memory (ROM) with an embedded disk image. One method of software execution includes embedding a disk image in a system read only memory (ROM) of a computer system; exporting the disk image through a universal serial bus (USB) interface after an operating system (OS) of the computer system loads; and executing software in the disk image in the computer system.

Techniques for providing the status of a port to a controller are provided. A port may have a visual indicator indicating the status of the port. A controller may have an input for receiving a signal. The visual indicator of the port may be coupled to the input of the controller to determine the operational status of the port.
