Systems, devices, and assemblies for implementing multi-focal lens portions in wearable heads-up displays are described. Multi-focal lens portions may include at least two regions having different optical power, and at least one transition region between regions having different optical power. If display light is directed through a transition region, aberrations or distortion may be visible in the display presented to the user. The present systems, devices, and assemblies address this issue through shaping, positioning, and orienting of regions of a multi-focal lens portion, through positioning, orientation, and aiming of display optics, and/or through arrangements of lens assemblies which prevent display light from travelling through a multi-focal lens portion.

Multi-focal optics for wearable heads-up displays

A lens specification for multiple lens layers of a lens structure is generated by one or more processors. A multifocal correction (MFC) component is assigned to at least one lens layer of the multiple lens layers. Parameters are generated for a display optics (DO) lens layer comprising an augmented reality (AR) display, the DO lens layer having a first side for facing an eye of the user and a second side for facing away from the eye of the user. Parameters are generated for one or more eye side (ES) lens layers of the multiple lens layers to be disposed adjacent to the first side of the DO lens layer, and for one or more world side (WS) lens layers to be disposed adjacent to the second side of the DO lens layer. The generated lens specification is provided for use in production of the lens structure for the user.

Integrated vision correction with augmented reality display

Systems, devices, and methods for aligning a diffractive element in a wearable heads-up display ('WHUD') are described. A WHUD that includes a projector, a transparent combiner, a WHUD frame, and a diffractive optical element (DOE) embedded in the transparent combiner, requires alignment between the DOE and the eye of the user and/or the projector. A WHUD includes a DOE aligned with an eye of a user when the WHUD is worn on the head of the user. A method of aligning a DOE in a WHUD with an eye of a user when the WHUD is worn on a head of a user includes aligning a first part of the WHUD frame with a first part of the face of the user, and aligning the DOE with a second part of the WHUD frame.

Systems, devices, and methods for aligning a diffractive element in a wearable heads-up display

Systems, devices, and methods for embedding a HOE in an eyeglass lens are described. A method of embedding a HOE in an eyeglass lens includes forming a world-side portion of the eyeglass lens, forming an eye-side portion of the eyeglass lens, physically coupling the eye-side portion of the eyeglass lens to the HOE with a low-temperature optically clear adhesive ('LT-OCA'), and physically coupling the world-side portion of the eyeglass lens to the HOE with LT-OCA. Forming the lens portions may include high-temperature processes, and the HOE may not be damaged by the high-temperature processes since the high-temperature processes may be performed on the lens portions prior to coupling the lens portions to the HOE.

Systems, devices, and methods for embedding a holographic optical element in an eyeglass lens

Systems, devices, and methods for embedding a diffractive element in an eyeglass lens are described. A method of embedding a diffractive element in an eyeglass lens includes applying a protective layer to a diffractive element, applying an interface layer to the protective layer, and applying a lens layer to the interface layer. The interface layer and the lens layer are each comprised of a resin material that hardens when cured. The interface layer is of a shape and thickness that adheres well to the protective layer after the interface layer is cured. The lens layer is of a shape and thickness that achieves the desired component shape of the lens after the lens layer is cured.
