A digital map of a geographic area is displayed in a map sheet in a software application executing on a portable device. Several individually selectable location indicators are displayed over the digital map in the map sheet. In response to a first one of the several location indicators being selected on the map sheet, an informational sheet related to the selected location indicator is generated, where the informational sheet occludes a portion of the map sheet. In response to a gesture applied to the informational sheet, (a) a selection of a second one of the several location indicators is automatically indicated on the map sheet, and (b) the informational sheet is updated to display information related to the newly selected location indicator.

Interactive digital map on a portable device

Disclosed are systems and methods associated with a social network application. A plurality of posts associated with a client system user is displayed. First and second posts in the plurality of posts are respectively associated with first and second recipient groups. While the posts are displayed, a content item area is displayed. An input, comprising a content item, is received from the user in the content item area. An affordance is presented that enables the user to designate access control information corresponding distribution entities. The content item and the access control information are transmitted to a system whereupon access to the content item is restricted in accordance with the access control information.

Content access control in a social network

The display device of a portable device is configured to operate in at least a first physical orientation and a second physical orientation. Instructions, when executed on one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to detect a first transition from the first physical orientation of the display device to the second physical orientation of the display device, detect a second transition from the second physical orientation of the display device to the first physical orientation of the display device, and, in response to the second transition, select a presentation format for displaying geographic content via the display device in the first physical orientation, based at least in part on a prior presentation format according to which the geographic content was presented via the display device prior to the first transition.

Screen transitions in a geographic application

An interactive digital map of a geographic area is provided via a user interface of a computing device. A selection of a point on the digital map is received, where the selected point corresponds to a selected location within the geographic area. In response to receiving the selection of the point and without receiving a request for directions from a user via the user interface, an indication of a length of a trip between a current location of the computing device and the selected location is automatically obtained. The indication of the length of the trip along with the interactive digital map are displayed via the user interface.

Automatic display of trip information in a mapping application

Disclosed are systems and methods associated with a social network application. A plurality of posts associated with a client system user is displayed. While the posts are displayed, a post input area independent of the plurality of posts is also displayed. When the user selects the post input area, it is expanded by displacing the plurality of posts. Concurrently, a content item area is displayed within the expanded post input area. An input, comprising a content item, is received from the user in the content item area. An affordance is presented that enables the user to designate access control information corresponding distribution entities. The content item and the access control information are transmitted to a system whereupon access to the content item is restricted in accordance with the access control information.

A method includes concurrently displaying a content item area and access control list information corresponding to an access control list of distribution entities; receiving, from a user of a client system, input in the content item area, the input including a content item; presenting to the client system user an affordance that enables the client system user to update the access control list to produce an updated access control list including one or more distribution entities, at least one distribution entity of the one or more distribution entities corresponding to one or more recipient entities; and transmitting the content item and access control list to a server system for storing the content item in conjunction with the access control list. The server system enables access to the content item to one or more recipient entities in accordance with the access control list.

Content access control in social network

A computer-implemented method for automatically sharing media between users is provided. A first image is received depicting a scene with one or more persons. Face detection information is identified for each person in the first image. Identification information for each face detected is obtained without user intervention. The face detection information and the identification information are associated with the first image. The first image including the associated face detection information and identification information is sent to a server hosting a media sharing service. An access link to an event group is received. The event group includes an album of the first image and a first collection of images that share a set of common features with the first image.

Icons can be combined to form toolbars such as those appearing on computer desktops and within application windows such as web browsers. Small icons are desired because desktop real estate is expensive. Small icons can be difficult to select or open because it can be hard to confirm which icon is indicated. An icon is indicated when the desktop cursor hovers over it. Altering the indicated icon provides good user feedback. Icons can be changed varying their size. Non-indicated icons can revert to a minimum size while an indicated one grows to a maximum size. Different images can be displayed for different sized icons, producing a more pleasing appearance. Alternatively, icons can be presented as display images produced by morphing two images together using morphing functions and icon weights. Morphing includes growing and shrinking as well as color changes, animating, and so forth.

User interface for selecting options

A computer-implemented method for automatically sharing media between users is provided. Collections of images are received from different users, where each collection is associated with a particular user and the users may be associated with each other. The collections are grouped into one or more albums based on the content of the images in the collection, where each album is associated with a particular user. The albums from the different users are grouped into one or more event groups based on the content of the albums. The event groups are then shared automatically, without user intervention, between the different users based on their associations with each other and their individual sharing preferences.
