A method and apparatus for acoustic noise cancellation ('ANC') in an audio headset. A combination of an analog feedforward path and at least one digital feedforward path enables the ANC facility to operate with the shorter delay inherent in analog electronics, but with the capability of better cancellation of reflections that digital feedforward allows.

Apparatus and methods for an acoustic noise cancellation audio headset

A method and apparatus for generating harmonics using polynomial non-linear functions. Polynomial functions are used to produce harmonics of an input signal up to a predetermined order, and that match a preferred set of characteristics. The preferred characteristics include approximating a sine function to generate odd harmonics, and using a function with zero slope at &#x2212;1, 0, and +1 to generate even harmonics. The polynomial coefficients may be chosen such that most of the coefficients for the odd polynomial function are scaled by the same constant as the coefficients for the even polynomial function, so that the calculation is shared between the two polynomials. In one embodiment, a digital signal processor having a pipelined ALU and a MAC is used to calculate the desired polynomial non-linear functions.

Method and apparatus for generating harmonics using polynomial non-linear functions

A ternary pulse width modulation ('PWM') method and apparatus. In one embodiment, the start of the pulse sequence in the 'current' frame is referenced to the end of the pulse sequence in a previous, &#x201c;reference&#x201d; frame, rather than to the frame boundary at the start of the current frame, thereby allowing the compensation portion of the pulse sequence to overlap into the preceding or following frame, thus achieving a higher modulation index without dropping the compensation pulses. Although in most instantiations, the reference frame will be the frame immediately preceding in time the current frame, in other instances, the reference frame may be any frame preceding the current frame that falls within the constraints of the timing facility.

Method and apparatus for pulse width modulation

This invention is multiply-accumulate circuit supporting a load of the accumulator. During multiply-accumulate operation a partial product generator forms partial produces from the product inputs. An adder tree sums the partial product and the accumulator value. The sum is stored back in the accumulator overwriting the prior value. During load operation an input gate forces one of the product inputs to all 0's. Thus the partial product generator generates partial products corresponding to a zero product. The adder tree adds this zero product to the external load value. The sum, which corresponds to the external load value is stored back in the accumulator overwriting the prior value. A multiplexer at the side input of the adder tree selects the accumulator value for normal operation or the external load value for load operation.

Efficient implementation of a multiplier/accumulator with load

A pipelined decimation in frequency FFT butterfly method, and an apparatus to perform this method comprising: a data memory with at least one read port and one write port; an add/subtract unit receiving data from the memory; a multiply/accumulate unit receiving data from the add/subtract unit; a source of coefficients, from logic gates or a coefficient memory, to supply FFT twiddle factors to the multiply/accumulate unit; a shifter receiving data from at least one of the add/subtract unit and the multiply/accumulate unit, the shifter supplying data to the write port of the data memory; wherein the apparatus performs these calculations in four cycles of the add/subtract unit and in four cycles of the multiply/accumulate unit, using complex arithmetic.

Method and apparatus for decimation in frequency FFT butterfly

This invention is a FFT butterfly circuit. This circuit includes four temporary data registers connected to three memories. The three memories include read/write X and Y memories and a read only twiddle coefficient memory. A multiplier-accumulator forms a product and accumulates the product with one of two accumulator registers. A register file with plural registers is loaded from one of the accumulator registers or the fourth temporary data register. An adder/subtracter forms a selected one of a sum of registers or a difference of registers. A write buffer with two buffers temporarily stores data from the adder/subtracter before storage in the first or second memory. The X and Y memories must be read/write but the twiddle memory may be read only.

High performance implementation of the FFT butterfly computation

A sample rate converter for an oversampled data stream develops interpolated samples at a first oversample rate, from samples at a second oversample rate; wherein the first oversample rate is a non-integer multiple of the second oversample rate. When the samples at the second oversample rate are changing state, at least two interpolated samples are generated or the interpolation is at least second order. When the sample at the second oversample rate is not changing state, the sample at the second oversample rate is passed substantially unchanged. In one embodiment of the invention, asynchronous sample rate conversion is performed, and the first oversample rate is a varying non-integer multiple of the second oversample rate.

A system includes a decimation module having an adjustable decimation rate and a filter module responsive to the decimation module. A digital phase lock loop is operable to control a decimation rate of the decimation module. The decimation module is a cascade integrator comb decimation module.

Decimation filter

A digital audio processing system includes an input to receive a phase component of a signal. The digital audio processing system includes symbol recognition logic to adjust a sample of the phase component using an offset value. The symbol recognition logic maps the adjusted sample to a nearest predetermined phase value of a plurality of predetermined phase values. The symbol recognition logic determines a symbol using a difference between the nearest predetermined phase value and a prior nearest predetermined phase value. The prior nearest predetermined phase value corresponds to a prior sample of the phase component of the signal. The offset value is based on a detected error of the prior sample of the phase component of the signal. The digital audio processing system also includes an output to provide a second signal that indicates the symbol.

Digital audio processing system and method

A method includes receiving first data corresponding to a first signal sampled at a first sample rate, decimating the first data to provide a second signal sampled at a second sample rate, and recovering a pilot signal from the second signal. The method also includes evaluating the pilot signal to determine an error value, where the error value is based on a comparison of a sample of the pilot signal to zero. The method also includes adjusting the second sample rate based on the error value.

A system and method for decimating a digital signal is disclosed. The system includes an input to receive digital data, a control input to receive a desired decimation rate, and an integrator stage responsive to the input. The system also includes a variable rate down sampling module responsive to the integrator stage and a differentiator stage responsive to the variable rate down sampling module. The down sampling module has a decimation rate that is dynamically adjustable based on the desired decimation rate.

A digital audio processing system and method is disclosed. In an embodiment, the digital audio processing system can include a phase detector to sample an input signal and provide an output to adjust a decimation rate of an input signal. In another embodiment, the digital audio processing system can include symbol recognition logic to determine a symbol using a difference between a nearest predetermined phase value to a sample and a nearest predetermined phase value to a prior sample.

A demodulator system and method is disclosed. In an embodiment, the demodulator system can include a Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) mixer to mix a first signal substantially to baseband using a first input frequency and to mix a second signal substantially to baseband using a second input frequency. In another embodiment, the demodulator system can include a phase detector to receive a pilot signal and to generate a control signal to adjust a decimation rate based on the pilot signal. In another embodiment, the demodulator system can include a symbol decoder to determine a symbol from a phase signal.

Demodulator system and method

A system and method for using one or more clock signals is disclosed. The system includes a clock translator that has a first input to receive a first reference clock signal and a second input to receive a second reference clock signal. The clock translator also includes an output to provide a bit rate clock signal having a clock frequency in a first ratio with respect to the frequency of the first reference clock but having a resolution based on at least a portion of the second reference clock signal. The second reference clock has a faster rate than the first reference clock.
