A heating blanket is disclosed. The heating blanket may include a thermoplastic matrix configured to become conformable at a predetermined temperature, a conductor embedded in the thermoplastic matrix and configured to receive electrical current and generate a magnetic field in response to the electrical current, and a plurality of susceptors embedded in the thermoplastic matrix and composed of a magnetic material having a Curie point.

Highly formable smart susceptor blankets

An assembly for deployment and retraction of a panel for outer space environment usage, includes a member secured to the panel with the member having an axis of rotation. Mass component connected to the panel, with panel wrapped about member with mass component positioned a first radial distance from the axis of rotation. Mass component has a mass per unit area greater than a mass per unit area of the panel adjacent to the mass component. With a rate of rotation of the mass component and member being same, the mass component rotates about the axis of rotation at a second radial distance from the axis of rotation, wherein the second radial distance is greater in dimension than the first radial distance. With a rate of rotation of the mass component and the member changed to be different, radial distance of the mass component to the axis of rotation decreases.

Re-useable, deployable, sun-shade and solar sail mechanism

A non-pneumatic tire and wheel assembly is fabricated by forming inner and outer mold elements having apertures to receive casting blocks. A tread having an inner wall is prepared for casting and fill apertures are machined in a rim of a metal wheel. The tread, the outer mold element, the wheel, the inner mold element and the rubber casting blocks are assembled and an elastomer is introduced into the mold assembly through fill tubes inserted in the fill apertures of the wheel. The elastomer is allowed to cure at room temperature to form a tire body element and the rubber casting blocks and inner and outer mold elements are disassembled. A post-cure of the disassembled tire body element is accomplished at a high temperature.

Method for fabrication of a non-pneumatic survivable tire and wheel assembly

A non-pneumatic tire and wheel assembly incorporates a tire tread and a conventional vehicle wheel with an elastomer tire body element molded for engagement intermediate the tread and wheel. The tire body element includes multiple concentric layers with alternating spokes. A bonded multilayer cover may be employed which is received within a recess in an outer surface of the tire body element from the tire tread. A mounting plate is engaged to the cover and attached to the wheel.

Non-pneumatic survivable tire, cover and fabrication processes

A latching system for removably securing a first structure to a second structure. The system includes at least one magnetically permeable latch bar pivotally coupled to the first structure, and a biasing spring that pivots the latch bar to a latched position within a recess in the second structure, thereby securing the first structure to the second structure. Additionally, the system includes an unlatching tool that includes an embedded magnetized bar that generates a magnetic field around the unlatching tool. The unlatching tool can be used to pivot the latch bar to an unlatched position by placing the unlatching tool in close proximity to the latch bar such that the magnetic field exerts a rotational force on the latch bar, thereby pivoting the latch bar to the unlatched position.
