A socket is shown having an insulative housing surrounding a metal substrate. The substrate has an array of apertures which are located in spatially arranged order to accommodate the precise pattern desired for the device to be connected. Contact assemblies include stamped and formed contacts having an insulative plastic molded over a central section of the contact. The molded inserts are receivable in the apertures of the substrate and are later swaged to retain them and the contacts to the substrate. The substrates are located relative to a mating device by way of pins attached to the substrate. The pins are locked to the substrate by way of a locking device, whereby the pins are rotated and locked in place.

A socket connector for an electronic package includes a socket housing and a loading caddy having a forward end and a rearward end. The forward end includes an opening dimensioned to receive the electronic package. The loading caddy is coupled to the housing for linear and rotational movement therewith. The loading caddy rotates through a first range of motion adapted to align the electronic package with respect to the housing, and descends linearly through a second range of motion to load the electronic package into the housing.

Metal contact LGA socket

A spring contact design used to connect varied electrical components to circuit boards such that the components may be installed onto the board and thereafter removed without soldering and desoldering of the component leads is disclosed. The inventive contacts use integral flexible elements and appropriate contact element shaping to ensure solid multiple electrical connection points between the contact and the electrical component lead. With the use of the inventive spring contacts, components may be easily installed onto a circuit board and tested to ensure functional performance and, if necessary, may be removed or replaced without the need for time consuming soldering and desoldering of the component leads to the board contacts. The inventive contacts are designed to ensure sound electrical connection with component leads of different cross sections, shapes and sizes. Use of the inventive contacts in housings sized and shaped for different electrical components are also disclosed.

An electrical socket assembly having a socket cover slidably mounted to a socket base over a range of motion. The socket assembly also includes a drive plate mounted to a cam portion of the socket cover. The drive plate and socket cover have range limit elements that engage one another to limit opposite ends of the range of motion. The socket assembly includes a cam shaft that engages the socket cover, drive plate, and socket base. The cam shaft is rotatable across a range of motion between an unlocked position and a locked position to slide the socket cover with respect to the socket base.

An electrical connector (16) is adapted to be secured to a mounting surface (84) of an electrical component (12). A gasket (86) is disposed between the connector and the mounting surface to provide an acoustical seal and to urge the connector outwardly against its latching members (72,76) to provide a firm and stable assembly (10). The connector (16) includes a button (38) which, when depressed, operates contacts (52,54) for receiving a conductor (22,24). Spaced apart projections (100) extend from a surface (88) of the connector into pressing engagement with portions (106) of the gasket thereby having a stabilizing affect on the connector when the button is depressed.

Electrical connector for a speaker cabinet

A clamp for an electrical cable which is particularly useful for fixing an electrical cable to a railway car truck. The clamp has an arched segment of a rigid sheet material which has a concave face, a convex face, opposed side flanks and open forward and rearward ends. The concave face and side flanks define an elongated concavity therebetween. An arcuate transition segment extends from each flank of the arched segment and connect to one of a pair of opposed flat wing segments. Each arcuate transition segment has at least one opening therethrough. Several detents project from the concave face into the concavity. A cincture such as a steel band extends through at least one opening in each arcuate transition segment and the opposite ends of the cincture are attached together. A helical spring having several windings is positioned in the concavity next to the concave face and extends from the forward end to the rearward end of the arched segment such that the detents project between the windings to prevent spring slippage. An electrical cable is mounted through the spring windings and extends from the forward end to the rearward end of the arched segment.

An electrical connector (16) associated with a component (10) is arranged to releasably receive a conductor (22, 24) and electrically interconnect the conductor to the component. The connector (16) includes a contact member (48) having a shank (62), a pair of first and second opposed beams (64, 66) extending from opposite edges of the shank upwardly into mutual pressing engagement and terminating in outwardly formed flanges (70) that are angled away from each other and from the shank (62). Conductor gripping portions (90, 92) are formed in the two flanges (70). By deflecting the beams (64, 66) the gripping portions (90, 92) are movable to an open position for receiving the conductor therein and movable to a closed position for gripping and electrically contacting the conductor.

An electrical connector (20) includes a dielectric housing (22) having a mating face (24) and a pair of contacts (44,54) disposed therein. Each contact (44,54) has a contact section (46,56) exposed at the mating face (24). The first contact section (46) is associated with a forwardly extending shroud (26) spaced from and circumscribing the first contact section (46). The second contact section (56) is associated with a forwardly extending silo (28) closely surrounding the second contact section (56). The second contact section (56) is complementary to the first contact section (46) and the silo (28) is complementary to the shroud (26), whereby the connector mating face (24) is hermaphroditic.
