Methods for traversing an expandable metal sealing element. An example method includes positioning an expandable metal sealing element in a wellbore; wherein the expandable metal sealing element includes a reactive metal and a void extending axially through at least a portion of the expandable metal sealing element. The method further includes disposing a line in the void and contacting the expandable metal sealing element with a fluid that reacts with the reactive metal to produce a reaction product having a volume greater than the reactive metal, wherein the reaction product seals around the line while it is disposed in the void.

Running lines through expandable metal sealing elements

Swellable packer assemblies, and associated systems and methods are described for operation in connection with a subterranean wellbore. The swellable packer assemblies may include a shroud for maintaining a sealing element in a fully inactivated configuration until the packer assemblies reach a predetermined location in the wellbore. The shroud may be formed of a dissolvable metal material such that fluids in the wellbore may remove the shroud, and thereafter the sealing element may be rapidly expanded by exposure to fluids in the wellbore or by exposure to a trigger fluid pumped from the a surface location. The expanded sealing element may establish a seal with an outer tubular structure to isolate adjacent portions of the wellbore.

Method to delay swelling of a packer by incorporating dissolvable metal shroud

A downhole system and method is disclosed for sealing a previously perforated section of casing and refracturing the subterranean formation in a region of the subterranean formation remote from those regions previously fractured. The system includes a truss structure radially expandable between a contracted configuration and an expanded configuration and a sealing structure disposed radially external to the truss structure. The truss structure and the sealing structure are set in their expanded configurations so that the sealing structure is put into engagement with the perforated section of casing so as to restrict the flow of fluids from the perforated section of production tubing into the subterranean formation.
