An odor control system includes a controlling gas source, a gas sensor module for detecting a dominant gas, the gas sensor module, a sample conduit, and an electronic control unit. The controlling gas source supplies a controlling gas to react with a foul air gas in a foul air volume. The gas sensor module for detects a dominant gas and generates a detection signal. The sample conduit routes reacted gas from the four air gas volume to the gas sensor module. The electronic control unit is configured to receive the detection signal from the gas sensor module and to automatically control the controlling gas source in response thereto. The detection signal has a signal direction relative to a signal baseline set such that the signal direction will differ depending on whether the controlling gas or the foul air gas is the dominant gas.

The present invention relates to an apparatus for the treatment of contaminated air or surfaces in order to remove or oxidize odoriferous gases and deleterious compounds therefrom through the utilization of ozone droplets, and more particularly pertains to the treatment of manufacturing facilities, wet wells, seage installations, buildings, equipment and industrial installations and diverse locales subjected to foul air, in order to remove noxious and potentially toxic vapors and impurities from the air or surfaces through the dissolution of ozone in water to form droplets, and spraying the resultant mixture into the air as a fine aqueous mist. Moreover, the invention is also directed to the provision of a process for eliminating odoriferous or noxious vapor gases and harmful constituents entrained therein from a volume of contaminated air or surfaces through the utilization of ozone dissolved in water by the employment of the inventive treatment apparatus.

Apparatus and process for oxidizing a vapor-phase substrate with low dose zone

A system and method for producing an ozone-containing disinfecting cloud includes an enclosure. A pair of atomizing nozzles are affixed to the enclosure in substantially directly opposed relation. Each nozzle produces a spray of ozonated water from compressed gas, ozone, and water and are positioned to direct the sprays toward each other to form a cloud comprising droplets having a size distribution. A portion of the cloud that comprises droplets having a size less than a predetermined limit is expelled from the enclosure. Droplets having a size greater than the predetermined limit remain in the enclosure. The expelled cloud has been found to have a pH lower than a pH of the remaining droplets. The cloud so produced can be used to disinfect an area by directing the cloud to the area desired to be disinfected, which can comprise a surface and/or a space.

Disinfection methods for surfaces and enclosed spaces

A purification device utilizing ozone, this device comprising a body member having an internal passage through which propellant gas is constrained to flow under pressure, with the internal passage forming an outlet at a downstream location in the body member. Liquid is supplied in limited quantities to the propellant gas in the internal passage, with the introduction of the liquid into the propellant gas causing thin ribbons and threads of liquid to flow into and with the gas flowing out of the outlet and to break into fine particles. An ozone supplying conduit is disposed in a central location in the outlet, with the conduit arranged to emit ozone into the propellant gas at a location near the outlet and to create a turbulent propellant gas region downstream of the ozone conduit. The propellant gas flows around the ozone conduit at a substantial velocity and thus serves to induce the flow of ozone from the conduit. The position of the outlet of the ozone conduit with respect to the thin ribbons and threads of liquid being such that the thin ribbons and threads of liquid enter the turbulent propellant gas region as the ribbons and threads are being shredded into fine particles. The ozone in the turbulent propellant gas comes into intimate contact with the fine particles as they are created and are collapsing into spherical droplets, thus promoting the absorption of the ozone into the fine particles.

Odor control atomizer utilizing ozone and water

A scrubber apparatus and controller includes an outlet gas sensor, and a processor operatively connected to the outlet gas sensor and a treatment chemical supply pump for controlling a level of treatment chemical in scrubbing solution responsive to the sensed undesired constituent, such as hydrogen sulfide and/or other odorous gases associated with wastewater. Accordingly, the controller enhances reduction of the undesired constituent in the gas being treated and while conserving consumption of treatment chemical. To enhance the operating life of the outlet and inlet gas sensors, the processor preferably only periodically exposes the gas sensors to gas, and also periodically supplies purging air to the gas sensors. The controller preferably includes an environmentally resistant housing containing the processor means and the outlet gas sensor. In addition, the inlet gas sensor is also preferably included to provide feed forward control and also to provide a log of both inlet and outlet gas readings. An atomizer device capable of reducing a flowable liquid to an ultrafine dispersion of liquid particles in a propellant gas, comprising a generally smooth surface having a central portion and a peripheral portion surrounding the central portion. At least one orifice is located in the surface, in at least a partially surrounding relationship to the central portion. A propellant gas is supplied to the underside of the surface, with such propellant gas being caused to pass at considerable speed through the orifice or orifices, thus forming at least one gas jet. The propellant gas flowing through the orifice or orifices create an area of low pressure at the central portion of the surface, and create at least one passway extending radially inwardly from the peripheral portion to the central portion, which passway, quite importantly, avoids direct contact with said gas jet. Liquid to be atomized is supplied at the location of the passway, which liquid is then swept through the passway toward the area of low pressure by ambient gas flowing through the passway to the area of low pressure. From this location within the overall envelope of the propellant gas flowing out of the orifice or orifices, the liquid is entrained into the propellant gas, such entrained liquid breaking into very fine droplets in the propellant gas.

An atomizer device comprising a body member having a gas nozzle defined by smooth converging sidewalls. A first smooth surface is disposed in a substantially perpendicular relationship to the nozzle, and a second smooth surface is disposed in an abutting parallel relationship with the first smooth surface, with a very small spacing existing between the two surfaces. An edge of the surfaces is disposed adjacent a propellant gas flowing through the gas nozzle, with the edge of the first surface being thin and jutting a short distance into the outlet of the gas nozzle. The edge of the second surface is set back from the edge of the first surface, thus defining a filming surface adjacent the edge of the first surface. A flowable liquid under pressure is directed to flow through the narrow space between the abutting first and second surfaces, toward the flow of propellant gas through the nozzle, and emit as a thin film on the filming surface on the first surface. The propellant gas flowing through the nozzle is caused by the jutting edge of the first surface to be slightly separated from the thin edge of the first surface at the filming surface. This slight separation does not prevent the entrainment into the gas of ribbons of liquid from the filming surface, which liquid breaks up into extremely small particles in the propellant gas flow.

Pneumatic nebulizer and method for uniformly introducing variable small amounts of flowable liquid into a gas flow to form a stable dispersion having the appearance of a natural fog and consisting essentially of microscopic liquid particles of said liquid dispersed in said gas. The nebulizer comprises a mixing element for introducing the liquid in uniformly fine amounts into the gas flow. The mixing element, which preferably is a replaceable unitary element comprises two contacting members having conforming surfaces which supportingly contact each other over a substantial portion of the surfaces of each to prevent compression therebetween. At least one shallow liquid passage is provided between the members of the mixing element said passage having an entrance in communication with a liquid supply chamber and having an exit orifice in communication with a gas passage to provide at least one stable liquid orifice for metering uniform predetermined amounts of liquid into a gas flowing through said gas passage. Said shallow liquid passage is formed between the said members by providing the surface of one or both members with at least one scratch, grind, etch, impression or the like, or by interposing a discontinuous inert coating or series of spaced shims or other means, to form at least one recess having a depth of about 0.01 inch or less to provide at least one stable, liquid passage for introducing uniform fine amounts of liquid from a liquid supply into the gas passage for admixture with the gas flowing from a gas supply.

Nebulizer and method

A pneumatic microcapillary nebulizer adapted to accept a supply of flowable liquid, such as water, and reduce the liquid to an ultrafine dispersion of particles in a propellant gas, such as air. The microcapillary nebulizer comprises a mixing element having a liquid conduit comprising a microporous capillary element having a multiplicity of liquid passages and exit orifices, a gas conduit having a gas orifice and a filming-surface having an edge comprising said gas orifice and communicating with said liquid exit orifices. All the liquid flowing to said filming surface must pass through said capillary element wherein it is retained in the absence of external forces and whereby it may be rendered substantially free of undesirable solid impurities of microscopic size or larger. The filming surface has an affinity for the liquid, which affinity coupled with the cohesive forces acting on the liquid and the pressure acting on the liquid, cause the liquid to flow out of the capillary element and across the filming surface to form a continuous thin liquid film on the filming surface which is drawn to the edge of the filming surface comprising the gas orifice and is reduced to an ultrafine dispersion of said liquid in the gas flowing through said gas conduit.

Microcapillary nebulizer and method

Pneumatic nebulizer and method for uniformly supplying variable small amounts of flowable liquid into a gas flow to form a stable dispersion having the appearance of a natural fog and consisting essentially of microscopic particles of said liquid dispersed in said gas. The nebulizer comprises a means for controlling the rate of flow of said liquid, a mixing element having one or more narrow liquid orifices through which the liquid is supplied in uniformly fine amounts, a filming surface onto which the liquid is drawn and stretched and a gas orifice which introduces the stretched liquid film into the gas flow. The mixing element, which may be a replaceable unitary element, comprises a filming surface having an affinity for the liquid being dispersed in the gas flow, at least one liquid passage adapted to receive a regulated supply of said liquid and having a very small exit orifice on said filming surface and adapted to transmit said liquid to said filming surface, and a gas orifice communicating with an edge of said filming surface and spaced from said very small liquid orifice and adapted to receive liquid from said filming surface in the form of the thinnest continuous filament or film of said liquid which can be drawn across said surface by the cohesive force between the liquid being dispersed at said gas orifice and the liquid on said surface.

Pneumatic nebulizer for uniformly dispersing variable amounts of flowable liquid in a gas to form a stable dispersion having the appearance of a natural fog and consisting essentially of liquid particles having a maximum particle size below about 20 microns diameter and having an average particle size well below about 10 microns diameter suspended in said gas. The liquid is forced at a variable rate into a gas flow, at an angle thereto, through an orifice having a width which is variable under the effect of gradual changes in the force of said gas and/or of said liquid to stress the liquid prior to contact with the propellant gas, and is contacted with the propellant gas as it emerges from the orifice in stressed condition for conversion into a stable dispersion having the appearance of a natural fog.
