Imaging devices, systems, and methods for capturing image data for an object appearing in a field of view (FOV) are described herein. An example device includes: an imaging assembly; an aiming assembly; and a computer-readable media storing machine readable instructions that cause the imaging device to: (i) initiate a first aiming state responsive to receiving an indication of a trigger event; (ii) capture the image data of the object appearing in the FOV while operating in the first aiming state; (iii) transition from the first aiming state to a second aiming state responsive to a successful decode event associated with the indicia, wherein the light source is to emit light in the second aiming state such that an observable appearance is different in the second aiming state than in the first aiming state; and (iv) otherwise refrain from transitioning from the first aiming state to the second aiming state.

In an embodiment the present invention is a weigh platter for use with a indicia reader having a housing with a lower housing portion with an upper surface facing a product scanning region and an upper housing portion extending above the lower housing portion. The weigh platter includes (i) a central region extending in a transverse plane, the central region including a platter window configured to permit light to pass therethrough, the platter window having a transparent medium having a top surface extending parallel to the transverse plane and (ii) a proximal region positioned between the platter window and the upper housing portion, where the proximal region includes a proximal region surface that extends above the platter window and that is obliquely angled relative to the transverse plane.

Imaging devices, systems, and methods for determining whether an object is within range to be decoded based on a sharpness of the object in a captured image are described herein. An example device includes: an imaging assembly; and a computer-readable media storing machine readable instructions that, when executed, cause the imaging device to: (i) capture, using the imaging assembly, the image data of the indicia; (ii) calculate, using at least an element of the indicia, a sharpness score for the indicia; (iii) determine, based on the sharpness score, whether the indicia is within a predetermined decode operation range; (iv) when the distance of the indicia is within the predetermined decode operation range, perform a decode operation on the indicia; and (v) when the distance of the indicia is not within the predetermined decode operation range, refrain from performing the decode operation on the indicia.

An example indicia reader includes a housing configured to be positioned above a product scanning area. The housing has a width, a height, and a width to height ratio equal to or greater than 2:1. A barcode camera is positioned at least partially within the housing and has a first field-of-view (FOV) configured to be directed towards the product scanning area. A vision camera is positioned at least partially within the housing and has a second FOV configured to at least partially overlap the first FOV. A controller is positioned within the housing and is communicatively coupled to the barcode camera and the vision camera. An example bioptic indicia reader assembly includes: a housing having an upper housing portion and a generally upright window positioned in the upper housing portion; and a platter having a proximal edge adjacent the upper housing portion. Methods and systems for avoidance of unintended indicia scanning are disclosed herein. An example system may include an imaging device comprising: (1) one or more image sensors; (2) a processing assembly communicatively coupled to the one or more image sensors and configured to: (i) instruct the one or more image sensors to capture the image data including a plurality of image frames over a FOV, (ii) decode an indicia in an initial image frame of the plurality of image frames to generate decoded indicia data of the indica, (iii) determine a first location associated with the indicia in the initial image frame, (iv) determine a second location associated with the indicia in a subsequent image frame, (v) determine whether a positional difference between the second location and the first location exceeds a threshold value, and (vi) transmit the decoded indicia data of the indicia to a host processor.

Imaging devices, systems, and methods for determining parameters of an object based on chemical indicators detected during a decode event are described herein. An example device includes: a housing; one or more processors; an imaging assembly at least partially disposed within the housing, the imaging assembly including: an imaging sensor operable to capture an image of an object in a FOV; and a computer-readable media storing machine readable instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to: after capturing the image of the object in the FOV, determine whether a decode indicia is present in the image of the object; initiate a decode event for the decode indicia present in the image of the object; detect a chemical indicator in proximity to the decode indicia in the image of the object; and determine, based on the chemical indicator, one or more parameters associated with the object.

Barcode readers with off-platter detection assemblies are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a weigh platter and an off-platter detection assembly including a light emission assembly, a light detection assembly, and a controller. The light emission assembly emits a light along a first lateral edge of the weigh platter and the light detection assembly detects at least a portion of the light from the light emission assembly. The controller is configured to: receive a light detection signal from the light detection assembly; compare the light detection signal to a first signal threshold and a second signal threshold range; execute a first event if the light detection signal is less than the first signal threshold, indicating an off-platter event; and execute a second event if the light detection signal is within the second signal threshold range for a predetermined period of time, indicating a maintenance event.

At least some embodiments described herein are directed to a machine vision method, which involves capturing both a two-dimensional (2D) image of an object to identify a barcode and determine 3D features, and a three-dimensional (3D) image of the environment. The 3D image data is examined for the presence of the 3D object features. If a feature is missing, a digital fault detection signal is provided. If a feature is present, at least one parameter of the machine vision system is adjusted. The method also includes decoding the barcode and determining the object's orientation based on the barcode location in the 2D image.

Systems and methods for performing barcoding and machine vision with a single camera are disclosed herein. An example system includes an image sensor configured to capture low-resolution image data of a large field of view and high-resolution image data of a small field of view. A first data pipeline is configured to transmit the low-resolution image data to a first module configured to perform image processing on the low-resolution image data. A second data pipeline is configured to transmit the high-resolution image data to a second module configured to perform image processing on the high-resolution image data. Machine readable instructions cause the system to capture image data of the large field of view or the small field of view and the processor transmits either the low-resolution image data via the first data pipeline or the high-resolution image data via the second pipeline.

Imaging systems for imaging or scanning objects by redirecting portions of a field of view (FOV) are described herein. An example imaging system includes: an imaging assembly; a platter including a redirection element; and a computer-readable media storing machine readable instructions that cause the imaging system to: capture the image data in the FOV, wherein a first subset of pixels captures a first subset of the image data associated with a first portion of the FOV not redirected by the redirection element, and a second subset of pixels captures a second subset of the image data associated with a redirected portion of the FOV redirected by the redirection element; process the first subset of image data via a first module to perform a first vision operation; and process the second subset of image data via a second module to perform a second vision operation.
