The present application relates to a braking system for a train that is configured to operate in combination with pneumatic systems. The braking system includes an electronic control board and an electronic control valve coupled to the brake pipe on a railcar. The braking system is located on one of a number of railcars dispersed throughout the train. The electronic control board monitors a brake signal from the locomotive and selectively transmits signal data to the electronic control valve to release air pressure within the brake pipe. The braking system provides one or more air release locations within the brake pipe so as to reduce braking stresses.

An absorbent article is provided for absorbing a liquid, the absorbent article including a chassis including a liner, an outer cover, and an absorbent structure positioned between the liner and the outer cover, the chassis including a front region and a back region, the front region and the back region defining a waist region therebetween. The absorbent article also includes a wetness indicator positioned adjacent the liner or the outer cover, the wetness indicator including a hydrophanous tissue layer having an absorbent-structure-facing side and being in liquid communication with the absorbent structure or the liner, and an indicator material disposed between the absorbent-facing side of the tissue layer and the absorbent structure. The absorbent article can also include a film layer disposed adjacent the tissue layer, and the indicator material can include an active constituent adapted to wick along the tissue layer when the absorbent article is insulted.

Absorbent articles incorporating a wetness sensor for indicating the presence of a body fluid are disclosed. The wetness sensor includes an olfactory signaling device that produces a scent or odor when a body fluid is detected. For instance, in one embodiment, an odorous composition can be contained in a water degradable pouch that releases the odorous composition when contacted with moisture. Once released, the odorous composition can produce a desired scent. In other embodiments, the odorous composition can be encapsulated within a water degradable material or can be coated on a substrate. The scent or odor that is released by the odorous composition can vary depending upon the particular application. The scent, for instance, may be pleasant or unpleasant. In one embodiment, the olfactory signaling device may be used to assist in toilet training a child.

Disclosed is an absorbent article for preventing leakage, the article including an absorbent assembly having an absorbent assembly perimeter and a leakage warning element disposed adjacent a portion of the perimeter, wherein the leakage warning element is adapted to provide a physical sensation indicating a fullness level of the absorbent assembly. Also disclosed is an absorbent article for providing a wearer with a warning of potential leakage, the article including an absorbent assembly and a leakage warning element disposed adjacent the absorbent assembly, wherein the leakage warning element is adapted to impart a physical sensation to the wearer.

An absorbent article includes a liner and an outercover in facing relation and at least one conductive element located between the liner and the outercover. At least a portion of the conductive element is exposed through the liner and/or the outercover to define at least one external contact point. The external contact point defines a perimeter and the liner and/or the outercover is sealed about the perimeter. The contact points provide external access to the internal conductive elements.

In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure a method for detecting the presence of urine is described. The method includes providing a urine indicating sensor with a porous matrix, the matrix having a pH indicator non-diffusively immobilized thereon, the pH indicator being capable of a color transition when in contact with urine. Urine is contacted with the matrix of the sensor and the presence of urine is determined based on whether the pH indicator undergoes a color transition.

Wetness sensors

Embodiments of the invention provide methods and systems for determining hydration of an article and/or a person. The physical and/or electrical properties of a device in the absorbent article may be altered by hydration received in the absorbent article. The alteration of the physical or electrical properties may indicate the amount of hydration in the absorbent article. Furthermore, a time period for receiving the hydration in the absorbent article may also be determined. The hydration of the person may be determined based on a fluid output rate from the person computed using the amount of hydration output from the person and the time period for receiving the hydration.

Systems and methods for hydration sensing and monitoring

Wetness indicators may include alarm devices that are designed to assist parents or attendants in identifying a wet diaper condition early on. These devices produce either a visual or an audible signal. Many of these devices rely on electronics, which may increase the expense of the absorbent article. Further, electronic devices rely on electrical sources and may be prone to failure if not utilized for an extended period of time.

The present disclosure is generally directed to a process for controlling the quality of manufactured absorbent articles, the process including incorporating into an absorbent article at least a portion of a wetness sensing system that is configured to detect the presence of a substance, the wetness sensing system comprising at least one metallic conductive element; and passing the absorbent article in proximity to a foreign material sensor employing x-ray technology, the foreign material sensor adapted to detect the presence of foreign material to confirm whether foreign material has been incorporated into the article.

Process for controlling the quality of an absorbent article including a wetness sensing system

The present subject matter relates to absorbent articles and signaling devices for use therewith. An absorbent article may be provided with selected electrical components used as wetness or other type sensors and may also incorporate one or more electrical components, characteristics of which may be determined by a coupled signaling device. An attached signaling device may automatically determine a product identification based on characteristics of the electrical components detected and adjust operating characteristics or parameters for the sensing device. Determinations could be made based on gender, age and approximate weight of the user of the absorbent device. In addition automatic checks can be made to determine mutual operability of the signaling device with an associated absorbent article or visa-versa.

Wetness device lock and key and device ID

The present disclosure is generally directed to process for controlling the quality of absorbent articles containing wetness sensing systems. The wetness sensing system incorporated in the article can include, for instance, metallic conductive leads or other metallic material. A metal sensor can be used in order to ensure that a proper amount of metallic material is contained within the absorbent article thereby confirming the presence of the wetness sensing system. The process of the present disclosure can be carried out at various locations. For instance, the process can be carried out while the articles are being manufactured, after the articles are packaged or during use of the articles. In one embodiment, the process can be carried out at a wholesale or retail location prior to accepting the articles into inventory.

Process for producing and controlling the package quality of absorbent articles containing a wetness sensing system

A limited use, disposable article (), comprises a matrix-substrate (), and an electrically-conductive region () of a separately provided, electrically-conductive material that has been operatively applied to the matrix-substrate from a viscous configuration of the electrically-conductive material. The matrix-substrate includes a first matrix-region (), and at least a second matrix-region (). At least the second matrix-region () can include a treatment that provides for an operative formation of a selected resistivity in the electrically-conductive region. The first matrix-region () has a high resistivity, and the electrically-conductive region () is positioned operatively adjacent the second matrix-region (). The electrically-conductive region () has a low resistivity, as determined when the electrically-conductive region is positioned operatively adjacent the second matrix-region and configured for its intended use.

Conductive porous materials

A package is disclosed having an enclosed compartment with a pair of oppositely aligned walls and a perimeter. An array of compressible articles is retained in the enclosed compartment. The package also includes an expansion mechanism for allowing the enclosed compartment to be enlarged. The expansion mechanism includes a pliable member positioned about the perimeter. A release strip is positioned across the expansion mechanism. The release strip is capable of being at least partially removed to allow the enclosed compartment to be enlarged as the pliable member expands or stretches. The package can also contain an opening mechanism for allowing the package to be opened so that the articles can be removed from the enlarged compartment.
