Barcode readers with transflective mirrors are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a housing and a window positioned within the housing, an imaging sensor and second imaging sensor positioned within the housing, and a transflective mirror positioned within the housing and in a path of a field-of-view of the imaging sensor. The field-of-view of the imaging sensor passes through the transflective mirror and out the window with the transflective mirror in a transmissive state and the field-of-view of the second imaging sensor is reflected off of the transflective mirror and out the window with the transflective mirror in a reflective state.

Barcode readers with transflective mirrors are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a housing and a window positioned within the housing, an imaging sensor and an illumination source positioned within the housing, and a transflective mirror positioned within the housing. The field-of-view of the imaging sensor is directed through the window along a first central axis of the field-of-view of the imaging sensor and the illumination pattern from the illumination source is directed through the window along a second central axis of the illumination pattern that is substantially parallel to the first central axis of the field-of-view of the imaging sensor.

Barcode readers and methods for directing fields-of-view of imaging sensors of barcode readers are disclosed herein. An example barcode reader includes a housing, an imaging sensor positioned within the housing, and a transflective mirror positioned within the housing and in a path of a field-of-view of the imaging sensor. The transflective mirror reflects at least a first portion of the field-of-view of the imaging sensor in a first direction with the transflective mirror in a reflective state and allows the field-of-view of the imaging sensor to pass through and continue in a second direction, different than the first direction, with the transflective mirror in a transmissive state.

A reader electro-optically reads symbols by image capture to obtain read data, and a controller processes symbol images of the symbols captured by the reader, and decodes the read data to obtain symbol data indicative of the associated products. A reader electro-optically reads symbols associated with products to obtain read data, and a controller decodes the read data to obtain symbol data indicative of the associated products. Reading performance is assessed by collecting time-to-decode metadata by determining each decode time period that is taken for each symbol data to be successfully decoded, by associating the collected time-to-decode metadata with the symbol data, by comparing the collected time-to-decode metadata with a predetermined long amount of decode time that is indicative of a slow reading performance, by storing each decode time period that at least equals said predetermined long amount of decode time, and by storing the symbol data associated with each stored decode time period.

Arrangement for and method of assessing efficiency of transactions involving products associated with electro-optically readable targets

An arrangement for, and a method of, electro-optically reading a target by image capture, employ an aiming assembly for projecting an aiming light pattern on the target that is located within a range of working distances relative to a housing, an imaging assembly for capturing an image of the target and of the aiming light pattern over a field of view, and a controller for determining a distance of the target relative to the housing based on a position of the aiming light pattern in the captured image, for determining a scanning resolution based on the determined distance, for comparing the determined scanning resolution with a scanning resolution setting, and for processing the captured image based on the comparison.

A method includes transmitting from at least one of the imaging sensors to a controller a short frame data that is collected by the at least one of the imaging sensors when the illumination source is activated to provide the illumination light toward the target object with a first illumination level. The method further includes transmitting subsequently from the at least one of the imaging sensors to the controller a regular frame data that is collected by the at least one of the imaging sensors when the illumination source is activated to provide the illumination light toward the target object with a second illumination level that is determined based upon the short frame data. The size of the regular frame data being at least 50 times larger than the size of the short frame data.

Method and apparatus for controlling illumination

An imaging system for electro-optically reading a symbol located within a range of working distances from the system, utilizes a solid-state imager for capturing return light from the symbol and for generating an electrical signal indicative of the captured return light, and a controller for decoding the electrical signal into data indicative of the symbol A memory stores a known set of values for a plurality of optical characteristics of the symbol, such as size and contrast characteristics of the symbol when the symbol lies in a restricted zone within the range of working distances. The controller is operative, after the symbol has been successfully decoded, for processing the size and contrast characteristics of the decoded symbol, and for determining that the decoded symbol has been successfully read within the restricted zone when each size and contrast characteristic lies within the known set of values stored by the memory.

An arrangement for, and a method of, minimizing misdecodes of GS1 DataBar Limited (Databar-limited) symbols in a reader for electro-optically reading symbols of different symbologies, such as Universal Product Code (UPC) Version A (UPC-A) symbols, includes a data capture assembly for capturing light from a target symbol, and for generating an electrical signal indicative of the captured light; and a controller for processing and decoding the electrical signal, and for determining whether the decoded signal is indicative of a Databar-limited symbol, and for determining whether the decoded signal has characteristics indicative of a different symbology, such as the UPC-A symbol, to indicate whether a misdecode of the Databar-limited symbol has occurred.
