An active vibration isolation system for isolating a suspended platform from vibration input to the vibration isolation system base includes an exoskeleton, a rotary actuator, and a drive mechanism separate from the exoskeleton for providing force output from the rotary actuator to the suspended plant. The rotary actuator may include inner and outer rotors which rotate relative to each other. The rotary actuator may be free to translate relative to the vibration isolation system base and the suspended platform, and both the inner and outer rotors may be free to rotate relative to the exoskeleton.

Various implementations include loudspeaker transducers. In some aspects, an electro-acoustic transducer includes: a diaphragm configured to move along an axis; a voice coil having a plurality of windings around the axis; a voice coil support configured to transfer forces from the voice coil to the diaphragm; a support structure that inhibits radial motion or tilting motion of the diaphragm and the voice coil support; and a magnetic core for driving the voice coil, the magnetic core including: two magnets having opposite polarity and approximately equal magnetic strength, where each of the magnets surrounds the voice coil, where a magnetic field from each magnet is approximately symmetric along the axis, and where the magnetic field from both magnets drives the voice coil.

Dual-field single-voice-coil transducer

An active vibration isolation system for isolating a suspended platform from vibration input to the vibration isolation system base includes an exoskeleton which supports the suspended platform relative to the base. The exoskeleton includes first and second scissors mechanisms with main links of unequal length. The main links pass through a parallel condition as the suspended platform moves over its intended range of travel relative to the base. The vibration isolation system may include a rotary actuator and a drive mechanism separate from the exoskeleton for providing force output from the rotary actuator to the suspended platform. The rotary actuator may include inner and outer rotors which rotate relative to each other and may be free to rotate relative to the exoskeleton. The rotary actuator may be free to translate relative to the vibration isolation system base and the suspended platform.

An actuator assembly includes a first motor having a first transmission mechanism, a second motor having a second transmission mechanism, and a drive shaft operatively coupled to the first transmission mechanism of the first motor and the second transmission mechanism of the second motor. The actuator assembly includes a torque application system disposed in operative communication with the first motor and the second motor, the torque application system configured to direct an application of a translation torque and a preload torque between the first motor and the first transmission mechanism and between the second motor and the second transmission mechanism.

An actuator includes a first rotary motor, a second rotary motor, and a transmission coupled to the first and second rotary motors. The transmission converts rotation of the first rotary motor in a first direction and simultaneous rotation of the second rotary motor in a second direction to linear motion of an output shaft in a single direction. The actuator is usable in an active automobile suspension.

Counter-rotating motors with linear output

There is provided a vehicle suspension. More specifically, in one or more embodiments, there is provided an apparatus including an actuator system having a combination of actuators including a linear electromagnetic actuator and a rotary electromagnetic actuator, wherein the actuator system provides force between the sprung mass and an unsprung mass of a vehicle.

Vehicle suspension

An active suspension system for a vehicle includes an active suspension element that is substantially rigidly attached to a frame of the vehicle such that a motion of an armature of the active suspension element is mechanically decoupled from a lateral motion of a wheel of the vehicle. A control rod is attached between the active suspension element and the wheel of the vehicle.

A position sensing system for positioning a linear motor that includes a stator and an armature having magnets, the armature moving relative to the stator along a path. A sensor determines a position of the armature based on measurements of a magnetic field generated by the magnets of the armature.

A stator coil assembly includes a cylindrical support tube with first and second pluralities of stator coils disposed radially around the support tube. Each stator coil includes first, second, third, and fourth linear segments, each having first and second planar broad sides. The second and fourth linear segments extend in parallel along a first axis with the first and second broad sides of the second and fourth linear segments lying in a common plane. The first and third linear segments extend in parallel along a second axis perpendicular to the first axis. Transition segments having first and second planar broad sides each join a pair of linear segments. The transition segments of the first and second pluralities of stator coils define curvatures toward and away from the center axis, respectively, such that the first and third linear segments are disposed at a substantially equal radial distance from the center axis.

Stator coil assembly

A rotor assembly includes a substantially cylindrical support structure having at least one first region, and at least one second region. At least one rotor coil is positioned within each first region of the substantially cylindrical support structure. Each rotor coil includes a pair of distal end portions and a convex center portion, and the average mechanical density of the convex center portion is substantially equal to the average mechanical density of the distal end portions. The average mechanical density of the at least one first region is substantially equal to the average mechanical density of the at least one second region.

Rotor assembly

A rotor assembly includes at least one superconducting winding assembly positioned within a cryogenic region of the rotor assembly, and a cantilevered member, mechanically coupled between the at least one superconducting winding assembly and the shaft. The cantilevered member extends between the non-cryogenic region and cryogenic region of the rotor assembly. The at least one superconducting winding assembly, in operation, generates a magnetic flux linking the stator assembly.

Torque transmission assembly for use in superconducting rotating machines

A superconducting rotating machine has a relatively compact construction while still providing a relatively high output power, thus the superconducting rotating machine has an increased power density characteristic. The superconducting rotating machine includes a stator assembly, a rotor assembly configured to rotate within the stator assembly and having at least one HTS superconducting winding assembly which, in operation, generates a magnetic flux linking the rotor assembly to the stator assembly, and a refrigeration system for cooling the at least one superconducting winding. The superconducting rotating has a gap shear characteristic greater than 10 psi.

Superconducting rotating machines

A power supply device for providing uninterrupted power for a period of time is disclosed. The power supply device has a controller and a flywheel device. The flywheel device has a housing that contains a flywheel rotor and a motor/generator rotor. The flywheel rotor and the motor/generator rotor are mounted on a common shaft. An active axial magnetic bearing is located to support the shaft for frictionless rotation. The bearing provides support for the shaft, the flywheel rotor and motor/generator rotor. The axial magnetic bearing is attached to the housing and provides, in combination with the motor/generator rotor, a flux path and magnetic field to exert a magnetic force to lift the motor/generator rotor and the shaft on which it is mounted.
