The presently claimed invention relates to novel monomers which can be used for preparing polymers which are useful as dispersants for pigments and fillers, as wetting agent and as thickening agents in liquid compositions.

Monomers and polymers

The present invention relates to novel polymer compositions, to a process for their manufacturing, to the use of said polymer compositions for modifying the viscosity of aqueous compositions, and to water-borne coating compositions containing the novel polymer compositions as thickeners. The polymer compositions comprise a polymer material which is obtainable by reacting: a) a polymer P1 having at least one functional group of the formula (I), where k is an integer from 0 to 4; n is 0 or 1 p is an integer from 1 to 10, the number average of p being from 1.5 to 10; Q is a divalent moiety selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;O&#x2014; and &#x2014;NH&#x2014;; P is a p-valent hydrophilic neutral polymer radical; and Ris as defined in the claims; with b) a succinic anhydride of the formula (II) where R is C-C-alkyl or C-C-alkenyl. 

Polymer compositions and use of these polymer compositions as viscosity modifiers

Described are block copolymers which have been prepared by controlled free radical polymerization. Also described is the use of said block copolymers as soil release agents in laundry processes and a process to produce said block copolymers. Further described is a method for easier releasing soil from textiles in laundry processes and a detergent containing said block copolymers.

Block copolymers as soil release agents in laundry processes

A polymer comprises at least one functional group of the formula (I) bound to one of the termini and/or to the backbone of the polymer, or a salt thereof. # indicates the point of attachment to the terminus and/or to the polymer backbone; A is a chemical bond or a divalent moiety selected from the group consisting of C-Calkylene, &#x2014;O&#x2014;(C-Calkylene), &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O&#x2014;(C-Calkylene), &#x2014;NR&#x2014;(C-Calkylene) and C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;NR&#x2014;(C-Calkylene), where the C-Calkylene part is attached to Q; Q is a divalent moiety selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;NH&#x2014; and &#x2014;S&#x2014;; and X is a divalent moiety selected from the group consisting of linear C-Calkylene, linear C-Calkenylene, C-Ccycloalkylene, arylene and alkarylene, wherein the linear C-Calkylene, the linear C-Calkenylene, the C-Ccycloalkylene, the arylene and the alkarylene may be substituted. 

Polymers and use of these as dispersants

The present invention relates to novel polymer dispersants in the form of comb polymers P and to a liquid composition containing solid fine particles, such as organic or inorganic pigments and fillers, and the polymer dispersants. The comb polymer P having at least 0.5 mol-%, e.g. 0.5 to 90 mol-%, based on the total amount of repeating units in the comb polymer, of repeating units A, selected from repeating units of the formulae la and lb: wherein Ris selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, &#x2014;S(&#x2550;O)R, C-Calkyl, C-Ccycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, aryl-C-C-alkyl and heteroaryl-C-C-alkyl; and X indicates a polymer group of the following formula X wherein Z indicates a polymer segment or a monovalent alkyl or alkenyl segment having from 10 to 100 carbon atoms; R1 is as defined above; k is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4; n is 0, 1 or 2; A is a chemical bond or a divalent moiety selected from the group consisting of C-Calkylene, &#x2014;O&#x2014;(C-Calkylene) or &#x2014;C(&#x2550;O)&#x2014;O&#x2014;(C-Calkylene), where the C-Calkylene part is attached to Q; Q is a divalent moiety selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;NH&#x2014; and &#x2014;S&#x2014;; Ris independently selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;OH, &#x2014;COOH, &#x2014;COOCH, &#x2014;NH, &#x2014;NH(C-Calkyl), &#x2014;N(C-Calkyl), &#x2014;NO, &#x2014;S(&#x2550;O)R, C-Calkyl, C-Calkoxy, halogen, aryloxy, aryl, heteroaryl.
