An instrument may be coupled to a multi-axis expandable intervertebral cage so that the cage may be inserted into an intervertebral space, expanded along multiple different directions, filled with bone graft, and locked with a fastener. The instrument may be part of an instrument set that includes auxiliary instruments to determine implant size, insert bone graft into the cage, and deliver the fastener.

Methods and instrumentation for intervertebral cage expansion

Expandable fusion cages are disclosed which may be expandable in two substantially mutually perpendicular directions.

Expanding fusion cages

An apparatus and method may be used to separate a biological liquid sample and retrieve a separated liquid portion therefrom. The apparatus may have a tube, an insert, and a positioning mechanism. The tube may have a proximal end, a distal end, and a chamber between the proximal and distal ends for receiving the biological liquid sample. The insert may be positioned in the chamber, and may have a first end, a second end, a well between the first and second ends, and a draw tube in fluid communication with the second end and the well. The positioning mechanism may be connected to the tube and the insert, and may be manually actuable to move the insert between the proximal end and distal end to allow a separated portion of the biological liquid sample to flow proximally from the chamber through the draw tube and collect in the well.

Methods and apparatus for separating fluid components

Screw and rod systems include polyaxial and hinge joints which provide independent first and second ranges of motion. The first and second ranges of motion are additive in a direction along the rod, so that the screw has greater angulation relative to the rod along the rod than transverse to the rod.

Polyaxial screw and rod system

A suture passing instrument includes an operation handle, a cannulated needle member, a suture pusher, a suture shuttle and a guide tube. The needle member has a curved end portion. The needle member has an outer sidewall and an inner sidewall defining a bore extending through the needle member for receiving a suture. The suture pusher is movable within the needle member from a retracted position to an extended position. The suture shuttle has at least one bead and is loaded into the bore cannulated needle and movable along the bore by the suture pusher. The guide tube has a body telescopically receiving a retriever loop. The loop is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A suture can be moved by the suture pusher and captured by the retriever loop.

Method and apparatus for passing a suture

A suture passing instrument including an operation handle, a needle member, and a suture holder assembly. The operation handle has at least one actuator movable between a first position and a second position. The needle member extends from the operation handle. The needle member has a curved end portion and defines an eyelet extending therethrough. The suture holder assembly extends from the operation handle and has a movable suture carrier at a distal end configured to hold a suture. The movable suture carrier has a suture pusher telescopically and movably received in the movable suture carrier. The suture carrier is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. The suture pusher is movable beyond the suture carrier to carry the suture through the eyelet.

A bone plate assembly including at least one bone plate, polyaxially adjustable fixation elements and a polyaxially adjustable locking mechanism. A first plate includes at least one polyaxial element for lockable connection with a fixation pad, and a connection feature which allows the plate to translate and polyaxially rotate relative to the locking mechanism. A second plate includes at least one polyaxial element for connection with a fixation pad and a connection feature for non-rotatable connection with the locking mechanism. The locking mechanism allows translation and polyaxial adjustment of the first plate relative to the second plate and locks the first and second plates via a taper lock. The fixation pad includes a deflectable spacer configured to prevent premature locking of the pad. Methods for implantation of the bone plate assembly between two bone structures are disclosed. Instrumentation for implantation, compression and locking of the bone plate assembly is disclosed.

Spinous process fusion implants

Tissue fixation members interact with a housing to hold tissue relative to the housing and allow the orientation and position of the grasped tissue to be manipulated with improved efficacy. The tissue fixation members can be easily and quickly moved between deployed and retracted positions to reversibly grasp and release tissue.

Tissue fixation device

Instrument handles are adjustable relative to an end effector of the instrument. The handles may be releasably locked in selected positions and/or orientations relative to the end effector. When the lock is released, the handles may be moved to a different position and/or orientation relative to the end effector, and locked in place. The handles may pivot relative to the end effector around one or more joints. The handles may pivot about an axis of a hinge joint or a point of a ball and socket joint. The axis of the hinge joint may be aligned parallel or perpendicular to a center longitudinal axis of the end effector, or of a shaft between the handles and the end effector.

Spinous process fusion implants and insertion, compression, and locking instrumentation

The loop is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. A suture can be moved by the suture pusher and captured by the retriever loop.

An implant system provides motion preservation or stabilization between two spinal vertebrae. An associated instrumentation system is capable of delivering and removing the implants from either the anterior, left lateral or right lateral positions. The instrumentation system also provides instrumentation for delivering the implant end plates into the disc space, adjusting the position of the end plates in situ, compressing end plates into the vertebral bodies, interoperatively determining the height and angulation of bearings, delivering bearings together and then independently connecting them to the end plates. The system provides alternative instrumentation for revising the motion preservation disc from at least three directions. The system further provides alternative instrumentation for converting the motion preservation disc system to an interbody fusion device from at least three directions.
