A method for setting a gap dimension of a gap between a die cutting cylinder and a counter pressure cylinder of a rotary die cutting device includes providing a control system including a controller, at least one sensor, and an adjusting device actuated by the control system. The method further includes actuating the adjusting device in response to the at least one sensor sensing a deviation of a web being processed from a desired state which includes a set of one or more detectable parameters with quantifiable and measurable variables, thereby setting the gap dimension between the rotary die cutting device and the counter pressure cylinder, in which actuating the adjusting device is achieved as a result of the control system operating in a closed feedback loop. The method further includes sensing by the at least one sensor occurring with or without disruption of operation of the rotary die cutting device.

A web handling system is described, including a plurality of web handling controllers and a web handling process logic controller networked to form a ring network. A processor of the web handling process logic controller being configured to determine whether a fault exists within the ring network, and responsive to determining that a fault exists within the ring network, to generate and send signals throughout the ring network to switch the configuration of the ring network to at least one linear network.

Web handling system

A sensor controller for web handling applications is described. The sensor controller is provided with a first port, a second port, a computer readable medium, and a processor. The first port receives a sequence of data frames capturing an area of a material web having a width to height ratio between 0.10 and 100. The computer readable medium stores logic indicative of identifying properties of a first group of data points of a feature of the material web extending in a web direction of travel. The processor scans the sequence of data frames to locate a transition between a property of the first group of data points and a property of a second group of data points in the data frames and generates a series of location signals indicative of lateral locations of the transition within the data frames. The second port outputs the location signals.

Sensor controller for interpreting natural interaction sensor for web handling

The device pertains to providing side shift force control using load cell force feedback in the web slitting industry. Further included is a removable means of providing the load cell force feedback without integrating the load cell with the side shift mechanism. This provides for easy maintenance of the blade cartridge and specifically the cutting blade.

Side shift force control

The invention pertains to automatically addressing devices on a network. The controller tests each address from a list of available addresses. If the control device receives a response the corresponding address is eliminated from the list of available addresses. The control device sends an arming signal which is received by all participating devices. The devices prepare for a triggering signal. When the trigger signal is received each device waits a random amount of time. During this time each device looks for communication on the bus, if communication is detected the device quits timing and remains unaddressed, if not it sends a signal to the control device to accept the address.

Bus auto-addressing system

A sensor system for determining the position of at least two edges of at least one web material traveling along a predetermined path. In one embodiment, the sensor system has at least one transmitter block having a plurality of transmitters capable of selectively transmitting ultrasonic signals and at least one receiver block having a plurality of receivers capable of generating receiver output signals in response to the receivers receiving at least a portion of the ultrasonic signals transmitted by the at least one transmitter block. The receiver block is spaced a distance from the transmitter block so as to define a continuous sensor field of view therebetween whereby at least a portion of the at least one web material traveling along a predetermined travel path interferes with at least a portion of the ultrasonic signals transmitted by the at least one transmitter block. The receiver output signals generated by the at least one receiver block is indicative of the position of the web of material as the same is moved along the travel path between the transmitter block and the receiver block. In an alternative embodiment, the functions of the at least one transmitter block and the at least one receiver block are performed essentially equivalently by at least one transceiver block and at least one reflector.

Ultrasonic sensor system for web-guiding apparatus

A sensor system for determining the position of at least one edge of at least one web material traveling along a predetermined path. In one embodiment, the sensor system has at least one transmitter block having a plurality of transmitters capable of selectively transmitting ultrasonic signals and at least one receiver block having a plurality of receivers capable of generating receiver output signals in response to the receivers receiving at least a portion of the ultrasonic signals transmitted by the at least one transmitter block. The receiver block is spaced a distance from the transmitter block so as to define a sensor field of view therebetween whereby at least a portion of the at least one web material traveling along a predetermined travel path interferes with at least a portion of the ultrasonic signals transmitted by the at least one transmitter block. The receiver output signals generated by the at least one receiver block is indicative of the position of the web of material as the same is moved along the travel path between the transmitter block and the receiver block. In an alternative embodiment, the functions of the at least one transmitter block and the at least one receiver block are performed essentially equivalently by at least one transceiver block and at least one reflector.

A sensor system for determining the position of an edge of a moving web of material travelling along a predetermined travel path. the sensor system comprising a transmitter/receiver assembly, a beam reflector assembly and sensor signal processing. The transmitter/receiver assembly is positioned adjacent to the travel path of the moving web of material. The transmitter/receiver assembly has a transmitter transmitting a light curtain across at least a portion of the travel path, and a receiver receiving a shifted light curtain transmitted across at least a portion of the travel path and generating video output signals indicative of the position of the edge of the moving web of material. The beam reflector assembly is also positioned adjacent to the travel path of the moving web of material such that the travel path passes between the transmitter/receiver assembly and the beam reflector assembly. The beam reflector assembly receives an unblocked portion of the light curtain, shifts the unblocked portion of the light curtain a distance laterally to form the shifted light curtain, and transmits the shifted light curtain across the travel path of the moving web of material.

Edge scan sensor for web guiding apparatus

A sensor system for determining the position of at least one edge of a web of material traveling along a predetermined path. The sensor system has a transmitter assembly capable of selectively transmitting at least one collimated light curtain and a receiver assembly capable of generating output signals in response to receiving portions of the collimated light curtain transmitted by the transmitter assembly. The receiver assembly is spaced a distance from the transmitter assembly so as to define a travel path therebetween whereby at least a portion of the web of material traveling along a predetermined travel path blocks at least a portion of the collimated light curtain transmitted by the transmitter assembly. The output signal generated by the receiver assembly is indicative of the position of the web of material as the same is moved along the travel path between the transmitter assembly and the receiver assembly.

Light sensor for web-guiding apparatus

A sensor system for determining the position of at least one edge of a web of material is provided. The sensor system includes a transmitter and a receiver disposed on opposite sides of the web. The transmitter is capable of selectively transmitting ultrasonic signals, and the receiver is capable of receiving such ultrasonic signals and generating output signals indicative of the position of the web. The sensor system further includes a sensor drive circuit adapted to periodically transmit to the transmitter a transmitter drive signal representative of substantially one cycle of a signal, and to receive signals from the receiver with each signal being indicative of the position of the web.
