A method for producing one or more hydroxide solids includes providing a catholyte comprising an electrolyte solution; contacting the catholyte with an electroactive mesh cathode to electrolytically generate hydroxide ions, thereby precipitating the one or more hydroxide solid(s); and removing the one or more hydroxide solids from the surface of the mesh where they may deposit.

A method of forming a concrete product includes directly capturing COfrom a gas source, the capturing comprising contacting the gas source with an absorption solution having a solvent and a solute, wherein the solvent and/or the solute are capable of reacting with COto form an anionic compound, adjusting the pH of the absorption solution electrochemically to less than about 7 to release the COas a concentrated vapor containing CO, collecting the concentrated vapor containing CO, regenerating the solvent and/or the solute, and optionally collecting the regenerated solvent and/or solute; flowing the concentrated vapor containing COthrough a gas processing unit to adjust at least one of a temperature, a relative humidity, or a flow rate of the concentrated vapor containing CO; and contacting the concentrated vapor containing COwith a concrete component.

Integration of direct air capture system into COmineralization process of concretes and aggregates

Provided herein are manufacturing processes that include (1) subjecting precursor-containing solids to dissolution under acoustic perturbation to yield an initial slurry including dissolved precursors; (2) subjecting the initial slurry to hydrothermal synthesis to yield a subsequent slurry including siliceous solids formed from the dissolved precursors; and (3) subjecting the subsequent slurry to cementation to yield a cemented siliceous solid. Also provided herein are cemented siliceous solids formed by the manufacturing processes.

Oxygen-selective anodes

A system for a multi-chambered electrochemical cell for carbon dioxide removal includes an electrochemical cell. The electrochemical cell includes an anodic chamber at a first end of the electrochemical cell, which includes an anode. The electrochemical cell includes an acid swing chamber adjacent to the anodic chamber and separated by a cation exchange membrane. The electrochemical cell includes a desalination chamber separated from the acid swing chamber by a anion exchange membrane. The electrochemical cell includes a base swing chamber in fluid communication with the acid swing chamber and the desalination chamber. The base swing chamber is adjacent to the desalination chamber and separated by a cation exchange membrane. The electrochemical cell includes a cathodic chamber at a second end of the electrochemical cell, the cathodic chamber comprising a cathode, wherein the cathodic chamber is adjacent to the base swing chamber and separated by a second anion exchange membrane.

Multi-chambered electrochemical cell for carbon dioxide removal

Provided herein are methods of removing carbon dioxide from an aqueous stream or gaseous stream by: contacting the gaseous stream comprising carbon dioxide, when present, with an aqueous solution comprising ions capable of forming an insoluble carbonate salt; contacting the aqueous solution comprising carbon dioxide with an electroactive mesh that induces its alkalinization thereby forcing the precipitation of a carbonate solid from the solution and thereby the removal of dissolved inorganic carbon by electrolysis; and removing the precipitated carbonate solids from the solution, or the surface of the mesh where they may deposit. Also provided herein are flow-through electrolytic reactors comprising an intake device in fluid connection with a rotating cylinder comprising an electroactive mesh, and a scraping device and/or liquid-spray based device for separating a solid from the mesh surface.

Alkaline cation enrichment and water electrolysis to provide COmineralization and global-scale carbon management

Another method includes: (1) combining water with carbon dioxide to produce a carbon dioxide solution; (2) introducing an ion exchanger to the carbon dioxide solution to induce exchange of alkali metal cations included in the ion exchanger with protons included in the carbon dioxide solution and to produce a bicarbonate salt solution of the alkali metal cations; and (3) introducing a brine solution to the bicarbonate salt solution to induce precipitation of divalent ions from the brine solution as a carbonate salt.
