Method and system for detecting a biological substance by hyperspectral imaging

The present invention is directed to a method of determining a free moisture content and/or a degree of calcination of a gypsum panel. The method comprises the following: (a) transmitting a microwave beam through at least a first portion of the gypsum panel, such that said microwave beam is a transmitted microwave beam; (b) receiving the transmitted microwave beam to form a received microwave beam; (c) determining a phase shift and an attenuation from the received microwave beam; (d) repeating steps (a) to (c) for at least a second portion of the gypsum panel, such that a plurality of phase shifts and a plurality of attenuations is obtained; (e) using at least one empirical factor to correct the plurality of attenuations, producing a plurality of corrected attenuations; (f) calculating a raw moisture content of the gypsum panel from the corrected attenuations wherein the raw moisture content comprises a raw free moisture content and a raw crystal moisture content; (g) using a calibration factor to correct the plurality of phase shifts, producing a plurality of corrected phase shifts; (h) determining a density of the gypsum panel from the corrected phase shifts; and (i) calculating a final moisture content of the gypsum panel from the density and from the raw moisture content wherein the final moisture content comprises a final free moisture content and a final crystal moisture content.

A system for grading an agricultural product employing hyper-spectral imaging and analysis. The system includes at least one light source for providing a beam of light, an interferometer or a prism array for dispersing electromagnetic radiation emitted from said agricultural product into a corresponding spectral image, a light measuring device for detecting component wavelengths within the corresponding spectral image and a processor operable to compare the detected component wavelengths to a database of previously graded agricultural products to identify and select a grade for the agricultural product. Method and device for non-invasively optically determining bulk density and uniformity of web material during in-line processing, by measuring and analyzing light scattered by volume segments of transported web material. Influence of process operating parameters of temperature, volumetric bulk material transport rate, type, and, physicochemical characteristics and properties, of the transported web material, on collecting and detecting the scattered light, are used for process correcting raw measured values of scattered light flux density/energy of scattered light exiting volume segments of the transported web material, for determining bulk density and uniformity. Pattern recognition and classification techniques are performed using the calculated bulk density and uniformity values of the web material. Bulk density is determined in the approximate range of from one to zero kilogram per square meter of web material, with corresponding measuring sensitivity of about one gram per square meter of web material.

Method and device for non-invasively optically determining bulk density and uniformity of web configured material during in-line processing

Using surface microwaves for measuring and determining density and/or moisture content of a material. Positioning material within a proximate free space region spanning immediately above surface of a surface microwave waveguide, the surface microwave waveguide includes an electrically conducting rectangular block and a dielectric rectangular insert element compactly fitting into the block. Transmitting microwaves into the first end of the surface microwave waveguide, a first portion of the transmitted microwaves propagate within the surface microwave waveguide and a second portion propagates within the proximate free space region including the material. Parameters (amplitude, phase, attenuation, and phase shift) of the propagating microwaves are perturbed by the material and are a function of density and/or moisture content of the material. Receiving the portions of propagating microwaves exiting the surface microwave waveguide, whereby the parameters of the transmitted and received microwaves are useable for determining density and/or moisture content of the material.
