A water processing system provides prevention of scale formation in both interrupted and recirculating flow operations. The system includes an inlet for receiving an inlet water flow, a magnetizing chamber, and an outlet for providing an outlet water flow. The magnetizing chamber is included in a device that has at least one permanent rod/bar magnet at least partially disposed within the water flow. The magnet has an axis extending between the poles thereof in a direction perpendicular to the flow, so that the magnetizing chamber exerts a magnetic force on scale suspended within the inlet water flow, and so that the suspended scale remains in suspension in the outlet water flow.

Device for scale prevention in water systems incorporating magnetic field exposure and method

A water filtration system and water filtration system head provide interchangeable water inlet and outlet ports, so that a direction of a flow of water through the water filtration system can be reversed by configuring a valve provided in the water filtration system head that attaches to a cartridge housing containing a water filter cartridge. The head has a first fluid channel communicating with a fluid volume between the cartridge housing and the outer surface of a water filter cartridge, a second fluid channel in communication with an inside of the cartridge, and a multi-position valve that either conducts inlet water from a first port to the first fluid channel and conducts outlet water from the second fluid channel to the second port, or conducts inlet water from the second port to the first fluid channel and conducts outlet water from the second fluid channel to the first port.

Water filter system head with interchangeable inlet and outlet connections

A flow-directing water filtration system provides a flow of water through a cylindrical filter cartridge that is more uniform by inclusion of multiple water-directing ridges that form channels between them between the inner wall of the housing and an outside wall of the water filter cartridge for directing laminar flow of water along the outside wall of the water filter cartridge to improve distribution of water flow through the water filter cartridge along its length. The ridges may be formed on the inner wall of the housing, may have a half-circular profile and may be helical ridges that spiral along the extent of the cartridge and may taper in profile toward the bottom of the cartridge.

Flow-directing water filter housing, water filter system and method

A pump is provided that includes a body made at least partially of an elastomeric material and an inlet port and an outlet port, with each port being coupled to the body. The pump further includes a flow passage formed in the body and extending between the inlet port and the outlet port, with at least a portion of the flow passage being normally closed and with the inlet port being fluidicly uncoupled with the outlet port when the pump is in a free-state condition. An actuating device is coupled to the body and is operable for sequentially deforming the body to create a cavity within the normally closed portion of the flow passage, the cavity being in fluid communication with the inlet port, thereby drawing a packet of fluid from the inlet port into the cavity and propagating the cavity and the packet of fluid contained therein toward the outlet port.

Progressive cavity propagation pump

A shuttle valve () is provided having a body () defining an interior chamber (). The valve () includes inlet (), outlet () and common () ports that are coupled to the body (). A shuttle () is translatably disposed within the chamber () between a first position wherein the inlet () and common () ports are fluidicly coupled and the common () and outlet () ports are fluidicly uncoupled, and a second position wherein the outlet () and common () ports are fluidicly coupled and the common () and inlet () ports are fluidicly uncoupled. A first check valve () coupled to the inlet port () to permit fluid flow through the inlet port () into the chamber () and to prevent fluid from discharging therethrough. A second check valve () is coupled to the outlet port () in a manner to permit fluid to discharge from the chamber () through the outlet port () and to prevent fluid from flowing through the outlet port () into the chamber ().

Shuttle valve

The systems and methods involve creating an opening in the biological tissue of the patient and placing a sampling aperture of the extraction device over the opening. The sampling aperture is defined in a contact surface of the extraction device that is placed into contact with the tissue of the patient. A pump of the extraction device such as a depressible bulb sealed to the body is charged to create a vacuum between the pump through a sampling channel to the sampling aperture, and the vacuum draws the biological fluid from the tissue opening into the sampling channel. An access point is exposed to the sampling channel, and the sample of fluid may be accessed from the access point. The access point may be an extraction opening covered by an access door, and the access door is opened to access the sample.

System and method for the extraction and monitoring of a biological fluid

A vacuum device and method for extraction of a substance from a fluid source, the vacuum device including an upper member that may be selectively, and operably, connected to a lower member. The upper member defines a bottom opening, and has a vacuum pump in fluid communication with the bottom opening. The vacuum pump is selectively coupled to an energy source. The lower member defines an inner cavity, a first opening, and a second opening, the inner cavity in communication with the first opening and the second opening. An elastic membrane defining an interior cavity is disposed in the inner cavity and is coupied to the first opening of the lower member. In use, the second opening of the lower member in placed in selective fluid communication with the fluid source, and the lower member is selectively coupled to the upper member such that the vacuum pump is electrically coupled to the energy source and the bottom opening of the upper member is in sealed contact with the first opening of the lower member so that the vacuum pump is in fluid communication with the interior cavity defined by the elastic membrane.

A vacuum device and method for extraction of a substance from a fluid source, the vacuum device including an upper member that may be selectively, and operably, connected to a lower member. The upper member defines a bottom opening, and has a vacuum pump in fluid communication with the bottom opening. The vacuum pump is selectively coupled to an energy source. The lower member defines an inner cavity, a first opening, and a second opening, the inner cavity in communication with the first opening and the second opening. An elastic membrane defining an interior cavity is disposed in the inner cavity and is coupled to the first opening of the lower member. In use, the second opening of the lower member in placed in selective fluid communication with the fluid source, and the lower member is selectively coupled to the upper member such that the vacuum pump is electrically coupled to the energy source and the bottom opening of the upper member is in sealed contact with the first opening of the lower member so that the vacuum pump is in fluid communication with the interior cavity defined by the elastic membrane.

A fiber optic probe is provided that includes a housing, at least one optical fiber disposed within the housing, one end of each of the at least one optical fiber being disposed adjacent an opening in the housing forming a probe face, a binding agent that binds the at least one optical fiber within the housing, and a protective coating sealingly covering the probe face to prevent contaminants from contacting the at least optical fiber. A method for protecting a fiber optic probe having a housing, at least one optical fiber disposed within the housing, one end of each of the at least one optical fiber being disposed adjacent an opening in the housing forming a probe face, and a binding agent that binds the at least one optical fiber within the housing, includes polishing the probe face to create a substantially flat probe face, cleaning the probe face after polishing the probe face and sealing the probe face with a protective coating.
