A defrost control device has camming means for rotational movement and gear train means operable generally in a pair of preselected speed modes for effecting the rotational movement of the camming means. Means actuated by the camming means during a part of the rotational movement thereof toward a displaced position is adapted for translating the gear train means from one of the preselected speed modes to the other of the preselected speed modes thereof. Means is selectively operable upon the occurrence of a preselected condition for releasably maintaining the translating means in the displaced position thereof to effect the operation of the gear train means in its other preselected speed mode. A method of operating a defrost control device is also disclosed.

A method of manufacturing a cradle adapted for use in a thermostat to support a plurality of switch means respectively adapted for operation at predetermined trip points. This method includes: fabricating from generally planar and thin material a plurality of cradle legs respectively having a pair of opposite end portions with at least one opening in one of the opposite end portions of at least one of the legs and at least one integral extension on at least another one of the opposite end portions of at least another one of the legs; and pivotally interconnecting the other of the opposite end portions of the legs with respect to each other and inserting the at least one integral extension means through the at least one opening.

Method of manufacturing a cradle for use in a thermostat

A cradle assembly for supporting a pair of switch means adapted for operation at predetermined trip points. The cradle has a pair of means for mounting the switch means pivotally arranged with each other and adjustably movable toward an adjusted position to establish the predetermined trip points of the switch means, respectively. The mounting means include a pair of integrally formed means adapted for fixed interconnection with each other to prevent pivotal displacement movement of the mounting means from the adjusted position thereof and positively maintain the predetermined trip points of the switch means.

Cradle assembly for use in a thermostat

A thermostat adapted to regulate the operation of a heating system and a cooling system in response to the temperature in a space conditioned by the systems. The thermostat has a pair of means selectively movable to respective ones of adjusted positions and adapted for sensing the temperature of the space within a preselected temperature range, respectively. A pair of sets of at least three switching means are associated with the sensing means and are operable for controlling the operation of the heating system and the cooling system, respectively. At least three means disposed in heat transfer relation with one of the sensing means are energized in response to the operation of the at least three switching means of one of the sets thereof for supplying anticipation heat to the one sensing means only during the operation of the heating system, respectively, the at least three anticipation heat supplying means being connected generally in star circuit relation with each other and respectively connected in series circuit relation with the at least three switch means. An electrical circuit for a thermostat is also disclosed.

A mounting device for a pivotally movable member. The mounting device has means for pivotally mounting the member, means for supporting the mounting means, and a pair of means for abutment with the mounting means so as to generally constrain its movement therebetween. Means for displacement preventing engagement with the mounting means includes means disposed generally in overlaying relation with the mounting means for retaining it against displacement from the supporting means between the abutment means, and means extending through the supporting means into engagement with a portion thereof for maintaining the overlaying relation of the retaining means with respect to the mounting means.

Mounting device

A thermostat adapted for operation in a heating mode and a cooling mode so as to regulate the temperature of a space in which the thermostat may be located. The thermostat has means adjustably movable therein toward selected positions respectively indicative of a selected temperature of the space and operable in the selected positions for sensing the temperature of the space. A pair of means are disposed in heat transfer relation with the sensing means and energized during the heating mode operation and the cooling mode operation of the thermostat for supplying anticipation heat to the sensing means, respectively. A circuit for controlling the speed of an alternating current motor. The circuit has a gate controlled full wave alternating current switch coupled in series relation with the motor, and a phase control circuit coupled in parallel relation with the switch is operable generally for providing signals indicative of the occurrence of a preselected condition. Means is provided for transmitting the indicative signals to the gate of the switch to control the duration of the conduction thereof in either direction and thereby vary the energy delivered to the motor so as to control its speed in accordance with the occurrence of the preselected condition. A method of controlling the speed of an alternating current motor is also disclosed.

Circuit and method for controlling speed of an alternating current motor

In a refrigeration system having at least a condensor with a plurality of coils for passage therethrough of a refrigerant of the system and means for directing air flow in a selected path over the condensor, there is provided means for attaining a weighted average of the temperatures of at least some of the coils and the air flow. The attaining means includes means disposed across at least some of the coils and generally in the path of the air flow for heat transfer therewith, respectively. A method of attaining a weighted average temperature and a method of operating a refrigeration system are also disclosed.

An electrical switch has a housing, and means is adapted to be selectively movable in the housing for operating the electrical switch. Means having a deflected portion therein is engaged between the housing and the operating means for yielding generally as a collapsible column to oppose the selective movement of the operating means.

A control circuit for varying the speed of a dynamoelectric machine having a plurality of windings selectively energizable in different configurations for operation of the dynamoelectric machine at different speeds from an alternating current source. The control circuit has a phase control circuit for providing signals having a controllable phase relation to the alternating current source. A gate controlled full wave alternating current switch is connected in parallel with one of the windings, and the parallel combination of the one winding and the switch is connected in series with at least another of the windings whereby the switch conducts generally the full alternating current source voltage applied to the other winding. Means couples the phase control circuit to the gate of the switch to control the start of the conduction of the switch. A control circuit in a refrigeration system and a method of controlling speed of a dynamoelectric machine are also disclosed.
