Methods, systems, and devices for connection setup in an orbital angular momentum (OAM)-based communication system are described. A first device and a second device may establish an OAM communications connection between the devices. The first device and the second device may exchange a series of messages over a downlink communications link and an uplink communications link according to an OAM mode. Based on OAM related parameters or OAM related information included in the messages, the first device and the second device may achieve a successful directional alignment (co-axial alignment) between the first device and the second device. The first device and the second device may determine one or more orbital angular momentum modes for communication between the first device and the second device based on the establishing the directional alignment.

Connection setup in OAM-based communication system

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive an indication of a set of frequency domain resources allocated to the UE for communicating data over a wireless channel. The UE may receive an indication of a waveform type associated with the set of frequency domain resources. The waveform type may be based at least in part on a data type of the data, may be used for a defined amount of time, and may be one of a plurality of waveform types that are multiplexed together over different frequency domain resources within a total system bandwidth. The UE may communicate within the set of frequency domain resources according to the indicated waveform type and the data type.

Mixed waveform communications

Certain aspects relate to techniques for estimating and compensating for antenna array rotation of a wireless node. For example, the antenna array of the wireless node may rotate about one or more of an x-axis, a y-axis, and a z-axis, which may misalign the antenna array relative to another antenna array of another wireless node, causing degradation of communications between the two nodes. In some examples, the wireless node may obtain, from a first antenna array of the other wireless node via a second antenna array of the first wireless node, a first pilot signal and a second pilot signal via a first beam. In some examples, the first wireless node may perform a first alignment compensation based on a phase difference between the first pilot signal and the second pilot signal.

Estimating and compensating antenna array misalignment

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A transmitted may use a closed loop precoder for line-of-sight (LOS) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications that uses information such as distance feedback or LOS MIMO channel state feedback. A closed loop precoder may be associated with less overhead than a precoder based on full channel knowledge, such as an SVD precoder. A receiver may estimate a channel based on channel state information reference signals transmitted by the transmitter and calculate a spectral efficiency for one or more precoders of a set of precoders associated with the channel for a LOS MIMO mode. The receiver may send feedback to the transmitter that indicates a selected precoder of the set of LOS MIMO precoders based on the calculated spectral efficiencies. The transmitter may precode messages using the reported closed loop precoder.

Method and apparatus for codebook design for closed loop operation

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described, including detection of whether a first wireless device is location within a near-field distance of a second wireless device. The first wireless device measures phases of reference signals received at first antenna array of the first antenna array from a second antenna array of the second wireless device. The first wireless device determines, based on the phases, the values of quadratic terms associated with an equation for calculating the distance between a first antenna of the first antenna array and the center of the first antenna array or for calculating the distance between a second antenna of the second antenna array and the center of the second antenna array. The first wireless device determines, based on the quadratic terms, whether the first wireless device is within the near-field distance of the second wireless device.

A device may be configured to include an array of lenses along with multiple antenna arrays that each include a set of antenna elements. The antenna arrays may each support multiple beam directions, such as a respective beam direction for each lens of the array of lenses. If beams for multiple antenna arrays concurrently pass through the same lens, the lens may contribute to maintaining separation between the beams. Lenses may also contribute to the shaping of beams, and the use of multiple lenses may enhance a coverage area for beams transmitted or received by the antenna arrays.

Systems and techniques are described herein for wireless communication. For example, a computing device (e.g., a user equipment or component thereof) can obtain channel estimation of at least one channel for communication with a network device. The computing device can obtain a location parameter associated with the computing device. The computing device can further generate an LSP vector associated with the one or more LSPs. The computing device can transmit, to the network device, the LSP vector and the location parameter of the computing device.

A wireless device (e.g., a base station) may transmit, to a user equipment (UE), an indication of a field type of a field between the UE and the wireless device. The indication of the field type may include one or more bits indicating the field type, a measure indicating a likelihood that the field type includes a first field type as compared to a second field type, an indication that the first type is the same as a second field type configured at the UE, or any combination thereof. The UE may select between a first set of beam weight vectors and a second set of beam weight vectors based on the field type. A first wireless node may transmit, to a second wireless node, an indication of an orbital angular momentum (OAM) base value that is associated with one or more OAM modes. The OAM base value may correspond to a number of antenna elements of an antenna ring at the first wireless node, and for each of the one or more OAM modes. Based on the OAM base value, the first wireless node may communicate reference signaling according to the one or more OAM modes using the number of antenna elements of the antenna ring. The second wireless node may use a same number of antenna elements based on the indicated OAM base value.

Orbital angular momentum communication with variable antenna number

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for lens design for full-duplex communication. In some aspects, a device may use a lens design that enables full-duplex operation through a lens by facilitating an avoidance or mitigation of self-interference during full-duplex operation. The lens may have a first, antenna-facing surface and a second, outward-facing surface and, to avoid or mitigate self-interference due to reflection off the lens, the first surface may have a first curvature associated with a relatively small radius. In such examples, the device may transmit wireless signaling from a transmitting element and a reflection off the lens may be dispersed or otherwise oriented away from a receiving element in accordance with a design of the first curvature. In some implementations, the lens may include an anti-reflective coating to further reduce reflection off the lens.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may detect a material proximate to the UE and may determine one or more properties of the material which may affect beamformed communications. The UE may transmit (e.g., based on the detected material) an indication of a switch from a codebook-based hybrid beamforming procedure to an adaptive beam weight-based hybrid beamforming procedure. The UE may receive, from a network entity, one or more reference signals to use for adaptive beam weight selection in response to the indication of the switch to the adaptive beam weight-based hybrid beamforming procedure. The UE may communicate, with the network entity, in accordance with one or more beam weights selected based on the adaptive beam weight-based hybrid beamforming procedure and the one or more reference signals.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Some wireless communications systems may support orbital angular momentum (OAM) communications. A transmitting network node may generate signals for transmission via a first circular antenna array that includes a first quantity of antenna subarrays. The transmitting network node may transmit the signals using the first circular antenna array and based on OAM vectors. The receiving network node may receive and decode the signals using a second circular antenna array that includes a second quantity of antenna subarrays and based on the OAM vectors. The OAM vectors may be based on a numerical relationship between the first quantity and the second quantity. The numerical relationship may include the first quantity being equal to a product of the second quantity and a non-integer rational number and a greatest common divisor of the first and second quantities being an integer greater than one.
