Method, device and treatment system for sealing living tissue using high frequency electrical energy provided to the living tissue by an end effector of a treatment instrument applies N cycles (N=natural number from 1 to 5, inclusive) of electrical energy to the living tissue by increasing, in each cycle, an amount of the high frequency electrical energy provided to the living tissue until the impedance of the living tissue increases to an impedance threshold value for that cycle, after which the amount of high frequency electrical energy is decreased to decrease the impedance of the living tissue by a predetermined value. The cycle repeats, with each subsequent cycle having an impedance threshold value greater than in the prior cycle, and the cycles stop when an N+1-th impedance reaches a impedance stop value. Initial values of impedance can be used to determine parameters of the cycles.

A medical device includes: an end effector configured to apply treatment energy for treating a living tissue according to supplied power; a drive source configured to supply the power to the end effector; and a processor configured to classify, in a first time period after a supply of the power to the end effector is started, the living tissue into any one of a plurality of tissue types based on a first parameter detected in the first time period, control an operation of the drive source after the first time period based on the classified tissue type, reclassify the classified living tissue into any one of the plurality of tissue types based on a second parameter detected after the first time period, and control an operation of the drive source based on the tissue type into which the classified living tissue is reclassified.

Methods and systems for sealing biological tissue using high frequency electrical energy determines a first-instance size of the biological tissue based on an initial impedance determination and applies electrical energy to the biological tissue based on the first-instance size determination, during which an in-process parameter is detected. A second-instance size of the biological tissue is determined based on the detected in-process parameter. When the second-instance size is different from the first-instance size, the second-instance electrical energy is different than the first-instance electrical energy; and when the second-instance size is the same as the first-instance size, the second-instance electrical is the same as the first-instance electrical energy. In-process parameter include (i) a value of in-process impedance of the biological tissue, (ii) a rate of change of the in-process impedance of the biological tissue, (iii) a value of in-process integrated power delivered to the biological tissue, or (iv) a combination thereof.

A method of operating a power source device for a high-frequency treatment instrument adapted to perform high-frequency treatment for biological tissue includes causing a high-frequency power source circuit to output power; setting a target impedance value which gradually increases from a change-over impedance value to a stop impedance value; regularly comparing a measured impedance value to the target impedance value; causing the high-frequency power source circuit to lower the power by a first ratio if the measured impedance value is greater than the target impedance value, and to raise the power by a second ratio if the measured impedance value is smaller than the target impedance value; and causing the high-frequency power source circuit to terminate the output upon the value for impedance reaching the stop impedance value.

An operation method of an electric power source device for operating a high-frequency treatment instrument configured to perform a high-frequency treatment on a biological tissue includes causing a high-frequency electric power source circuit to output electric power; acquiring an initial impedance value in a first period from a start of the output; determining an increase rate of an output voltage relative to time; increasing the output voltage of the high-frequency electric power source circuit in accordance with the increase rate in a second period; acquiring the value relating to impedance of the biological tissue in the second period; and terminating the second period after the value relating to the impedance reaches a minimum value.

An operation method of an electric power source device for operating a high-frequency treatment instrument configured to perform a high-frequency treatment on a biological tissue includes causing a high-frequency electric power source circuit to output electric power; specifying an initial state of the biological tissue; acquiring a value relating to an impedance of the biological tissue; determining an additional impedance value based on the initial state; setting a stop impedance value which is the sum of the additional impedance value and a change-over impedance value; and causing the high-frequency electric power source circuit to stop the output, if the value relating to the impedance reaches the stop impedance value after the value relating to the impedance reached the change-over impedance value.
