A device controls closing movement of a drawer in a drawer cabinet. The device includes an actuator driven by a spring for imparting a biassing force to the drawer as it closes. The actuator is mounted on a housing, which is itself mounted on the cabinet, and is movable back and forth in the direction of movement of the drawer. A damper is mounted on the housing and is operable on the actuator to impart a damping force on it in a sense to resist the closing movement of the drawer. The actuator is triggered by a catch mounted on the drawer. The housing and catch are mountable without need of pre-drilling and include locating members for determining their relative positions on the cabinet and drawer respectively.

Damper assemblies

A device is provided for controlling the motion of a movable member such as a sliding door. The device comprises two springs. Each spring has its own catch for releasably holding it in a pre-loaded condition. The catches are releasable by motion of the door to apply force to its closing movement. The catches are arranged so that one of the springs will exert force on the door before the other.

Movement control devices

A damper assembly for a hinge includes a damper unit () with a piston arranged to be moveable over a working stroke within a cylinder () containing damping fluid. The damper unit () is mounted on a bracket () and retained in position by a housing (). A mechanism is provided for converting rotational movement of the hinge in at least part of one direction into actuation of the damper unit () on its working stroke. The movement converting mechanism is arranged to act on the cylinder () at a position substantially outside the range of movement of the piston on its working stroke. The arrangement minimises the transmission of radial forces from the movement of the door to the cylinder ().

Damper assembly for a hinge

A damper assembly includes a cylinder () having a piston assembly () mounted for reciprocal movement therein. The piston assembly () divides the cylinder () into separate chambers with a restricted flow path therebetween for passage of damping fluid contained within the cylinder. The restricted flow path is defined between elements whose shape and/or relative position is designed to vary with temperature.

A device is provided for controlling the closing movement of a sliding door. The device comprises a housing () containing a spring () which is actuable to provide a pulling force to the closing movement of the door. The housing () also contains a damper () which is actuable to impart a damped resistive force to the closing movement of the door. Incorporated within the device is a gearing mechanism for converting the rate of the closing movement of the door into two or more rates of actuation of the damper over at least part of the door's travel.

A hinge assembly includes a toggle type hinge mechanism () with a linear damper () arranged with its longitudinal axis parallel to the axis of movement of the hinge mechanism. First and second wings () operate the damper. First and second striker plates and an arm assembly () activate the first and second wings in response to movement of the hinge mechanism.

Hinge assemblies

A damper assembly includes a piston and cylinder type damper with a piston () mounted for reciprocal movement in a cylinder () containing damping fluid. The piston () is acted on by a piston rod () which includes a reaction surface for engaging the piston. The cross-sectional area of the reaction surface is designed to be significantly greater than the cross-sectional area of the piston rod () in order to spread the load exerted on the piston (). Also, the piston () is designed to engage the piston rod () at its inner end in a manner that provides lateral guidance for the inner end of the piston rod in its movement in the cylinder ().

A damped hinge assembly is provided that comprises a hinge unit () and a damping unit (). A mechanism is provided for connecting the two units together for purposes of transportation and handling, as well as for ease of installation. The connecting mechanism allows the units to move relative to one another between a transit state, which allows access for installation purposes, and a working position in which the damping unit is operative to provide resistance to closing movement of a door.

Damped hinge assemblies

A piston and cylinder type damper has a cylinder () with a piston assembly () which is mounted for reciprocal linear movement therein. The piston assembly () divides the cylinder () into separate chambers with a restricted flow path extending therebetween for passage of damping fluid contained within it. A piston rod () is mounted for linear reciprocal movement with respect to the cylinder () and is arranged to engage the piston assembly () with abutting contact. The contact between the piston rod () and piston assembly () is arranged to be remote from the restricted flow path.
