Two-component solventless polyurethane adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising an isocyanate component comprising an isocyanate, and a polyol component comprising an amine-initiated polyol comprising two or more primary hydroxyl groups and a backbone incorporating tertiary amines, wherein the amine-initiated polyol comprises a functionality of from 2 to 12, a hydroxyl number of from 5 to 1,830, and a viscosity at 40° C. of from 500 to 20,000 mPa-s, and a silicone-based additive (e.g., an anti-foaming agent and/or a wetting agent). The adhesive compositions are formulated such that the isocyanate and polyol components can be applied to separate substrates prior to mixing. Laminate structures comprising the disclosed adhesive compositions and further comprising a metal or metallized substrate are also disclosed.

Two-component solventless adhesive compositions for adhesion to metal and/or metallized substrates

Recyclable, all-polyethylene laminate film structures suitable for use in a flexible packaging are disclosed. The structures comprise a film layer consisting essentially of an ethylene-based polymer and a barrier adhesive layer disposed on a surface of the film layer, wherein the structure has an oxygen transmission rate not greater than 100 O/m/day, measured according to ASTM Method D3985. Recyclable, all-polyethylene laminate film structures suitable for use in a flexible packaging are disclosed comprising (A) a sealant film layer consisting essentially of an ethylene-based polymer, (B) an intermediate film layer consisting essentially of an ethylene-based polymer, (C) a structural film layer consisting essentially of an ethylene-based polymer, and (D) a barrier adhesive layer, wherein the recyclable, all-polyethylene laminate film structure has an oxygen transmission rate not greater than 100 O/m/day, measured according to ASTM Method D3985. Articles comprising the disclosed laminate film structures, such as flexible packaging and stand-up pouches, are also disclosed.

Two-component solventless adhesive compositions comprising an amine-initiated polyol

Methods for forming a laminate structure comprising a two-component solventless polyurethane adhesive compositions are disclosed. The adhesive composition is formulated such that each component is applied independently to corresponding substrates prior to the substrates being brought together to form the laminate structure. The adhesive compositions are highly-reactive and can comprise amine-initiated polyols or catalysts providing for fast curing. The amine-initiated polyols comprise a functionality of from 2 to 12, a hydroxyl number of from 5 to 1,830, and a viscosity at 40 C of from 500 to 20,000 mPa-s. The catalyst can be bismuth catalysts, zinc catalysts, zirconium catalysts, tin catalysts, and aluminum catalysts. Still further, a laminate formed according to the methods is disclosed.

Method for forming a laminate comprising a two-component solventless adhesive composition including an amine-initiated polyl

Laminates of polymeric films and solvent-based polyurethane adhesive formulations for preparing them are provided. The adhesive formulations include a hydroxyl-terminated polyester that forms crystalline polyester domains after reaction with an appropriate polyisocyanate, but prior to completion of cure. The result is an adhesive layer that substantially enhances the oxygen barrier properties of the adhesive and, therefore, of the laminate as a whole, while offering desirable convenience of application even at relatively low temperatures. The laminates may also exhibit desirable retention of barrier properties following flex-cracking.

Method of making laminates having reduced oxygen permeability

The instant invention provides a curable formulation suitable for laminating adhesive applications, and laminating adhesives made therefrom. The curable formulation suitable for laminating adhesive applications according to the present invention comprises a high molecular weight polyester resin, an epoxy-terminated polyester, an additive, a curing agent, and a solvent, wherein, upon curing under curing conditions, the curable formulation forms at least one interpenetrating polymer network.

Esters of secondary hydroxy fatty acid oligomers and preparation thereof

A process results in oligomerized ester alkoxylate compositions having substantially no unsaturation, which may be useful as lubricants, heat transfer fluids, plasticizers, thickening agents, surfactants, or power transmission fluids. The steps include, in either order, oligomerization of a hydroxylated fatty acid or fatty ester and quantitative reaction of unreacted carboxylic acid or ester groups with an alcohol, with the product of either reaction then being alkoxylated in the presence of a double metal cyanide catalyst. These oligomerized ester alkoxylates may be derived from vegetable oils to ensure high levels of renewable carbons. The compositions may exhibit desirably high viscosity index, low pour point, and high levels of renewable carbons.
