A pumping device () by which fluids held in a reservoir tank () can be pumped to a spray gun () in a metered manner, with a piston rod () mounted in a housing () in axially movable fashion, with a reciprocating piston () attached thereto, with a piston () connected to the piston rod () and moved between a first and a second housing sections (), first and second pressure spaces (') enclosed with the two housing sections (), two pressure lines (&#x2032;) in each of the housing sections () such that emerge into one of the pressure spaces (&#x2032; or&#x2032;), a working medium () pressed through pressure lines (&#x2032;) alternately into a pressure space, by means of which the piston () is driven, with a diaphragm a central area () connected to the piston rod (), and its outer area () connected to the housing (), and a flexible ring area () between the central and outer areas (), and a pumping space () enclosed by the diaphragm () and the housing (), into which the fluid is alternately sucked in or pressed out towards the spray gun () by the axial movement of the piston (), to determine the sealing status of the diaphragm () so as to prevent contamination passing between the fluid () and hydraulic oil (), a control space () formed between a housing section () and a diaphragm (), and can be monitored.
