A mobile barcode reader may include a housing having a defined exit window, a scan engine, a primary NFC antenna, and a secondary NFC antenna. The scan engine may be configured to read barcodes and positioned within a front portion of the housing with one or more imagers having a field-of-view extending out of the exit window. The primary NFC antenna may be disposed in a first plane extending in a longitudinal direction of the housing, the primary NFC antenna operably coupled with electronics of the mobile barcode reader to facilitate NFC reading. The secondary NFC antenna may be disposed proximate the front portion and extending in a second plane transverse to the longitudinal of the housing, and configured as a boosting antenna for the primary NFC antenna without being electrically coupled with the electronics of the mobile barcode reader. Related methods of operating and manufacturing are also disclosed.

Systems and method for remotely capturing a barcode and local decoding. The barcode may be captured using a remote imaging sensor. Images captured may be transmitted to a mobile scanner with an incorporated decoder. Additionally, inputs to the mobile scanner may facilitate moving the remote imaging sensor in three-dimensional space. Some embodiments also include a pointer device that may non-destructively mark a position for the remote imaging sensor to target. An image or series of image may be transmitted to the mobile scanner. When an image includes a barcode, the mobile scanner may decode the barcode and provide confirmation feedback.

A secondary electronic display may be in communication with the processor. The processor may execute software that, in the event of an execution error of a software program or hardware component, causes at least one message inclusive of information to assist a user with a debugging process to be displayed on the secondary electronic display.

A portable data terminal including a main housing, a landscape-oriented large display screen disposed on a top front portion of the main housing and extending nearly an entire width of the main housing, a keyboard disposed on top of the main housing and rearward to the display screen, and left and right battery housings serving as ergonomic handle grips disposed on an underside of the main housing to accommodate two-handed grasping of the device, the keyboard being constructed and arranged to receive input from a pair of thumbs while corresponding hands are grasping and supporting the main housing. In an embodiment, the main housing includes a central housing portion extending downwardly on the underside of the main housing and having an extended front face for containing a scan engine/data reading mechanism and first and second cameras positioned on opposite lateral sides of the scan engine.

The method includes the steps of acquiring, by at least one camera having a predetermined magnification ratio, at least one image containing at least one coded information and at least one object and properly associating the coded information with the at least one object on the basis of the position of the coded information and of the at least one object along an advancing direction with respect to a fixed reference system. The above-mentioned position of the coded information is determined starting from the position of the coded information within the image acquired by the camera and on the basis of the distance of the coded information from the camera. Such a distance is in turn determined on the basis of the magnification factor of a reference physical dimension detected at a surface of the object or of the coded information.
