Radially outer ring of a bearing unit for a hub-wheel assembly for motor vehicles, the radially outer ring being provided with: a flange portion having a plurality of axial fixing holes that connect an element of the motor vehicle wheel to the radially outer ring, an almost cylindrical portion which with part of its radially internal surfaces defines raceways for rows of rolling bodies of the bearing unit, an axially internal or axially external surface of the flange portion and a radially external surface of the cylindrical portion connected to each other by a first portion of toroidal surface (St) and of a second portion of toroidal surface (St) defined by corresponding first radius (R) and second radius (R), a truncated cone surface (Stc) defined by an angle (a) formed with a rotation axis (X) of the radially outer ring is interposed between the first portion of toroidal surface (St) and the second portion of toroidal surface (St).

Lightweight radially outer ring for a hub-wheel assembly

A hub-bearing assembly for rotatably mounting a motor vehicle wheel on a suspension strut having a wheel hub to support the wheel of the vehicle and having an axial shoulder, a bearing unit providing a radially outer stationary ring constrained to the strut; a first radially inner rotating ring mounted on the hub, and a second radially inner rotating ring defined by the hub, two rows of rolling bodies interposed between the radially outer stationary ring and the two radially inner rotating rings inside a first raceway and a second raceway formed, respectively, the first inner ring providing a substantially non-deformable Hertzian portion, on which is formed the second raceway, and an accumulation portion integral with the Hertzian portion and interposed between the Hertzian portion and the axial shoulder for accumulating elastic energy during cold deformation to obtain the rolled edge.

Hub-bearing assembly for vehicles

A flanged inner ring, and methods of forming the same, having a rolling edge configured to preload axially a radially inner ring of a rolling bearing after being plastically deformed; the rolling edge including a diameter of increasing variable size along an axis (X) of symmetry of the flanged inner ring and, wherein the increasing variable size increases along the axis (X) in a direction away from the radially inner ring, and the rolling edge includes an outer preloading surface configured such that in a deformed configuration the outer preloading surface is arranged against the radially inner ring and such that in an undeformed configuration the outer preloading surface is inclined away from the axis (X) of symmetry of the flanged inner ring.
