Apparatuses and methods for operating a power converter are described. An integrated circuit can be integrated in a high-side driver of a high-side fiend-effect transistor (FET) of the power converter. The integrated circuit can detect a phase node voltage of a power integrated circuit. The integrated circuit can, in response to the phase node voltage being less than a threshold voltage, operate a high-side FET of the power integrated circuit in a constant-current mode. The integrated circuit can, in response to the phase node voltage being greater than the threshold voltage, operate the high-side FET of the power integrated circuit in a constant-voltage mode.

Dual-mode high-side power field-effect transistor driver for power regulators

Exemplary embodiments may include a method of applying a charging pulse to an output capacitor, detecting satisfaction of a charging threshold, ending the charging pulse in response to the detecting the satisfaction of the charging threshold, and discharging the sampling capacitor in response to the detecting the satisfaction of the charging threshold. In some embodiments, once a sampling capacitor voltage drops below a discharging threshold, a charging pulse is applied. Exemplary embodiments may also include an apparatus with a controller coupled to an input node, a timer coupled to the controller, an inductive charger coupled to the controller, to an input node, and to an output node, and a sensor coupled to the controller and the output node. Exemplary embodiments may further include an apparatus where a sensor with a sampling capacitor has a first terminal coupled to the output node and a second terminal coupled to the controller and the inductive charger.

Method and apparatus for pulse frequency modulation with discontinuous voltage sensing

One embodiment pertains to a method including determining the duty cycle of a PWM signal, operating in valley current control mode when the duty cycle is greater than fifty percent, operating in peak current control mode when the duty cycle is less than fifty percent, and including, commencing a PWM pulse upon the occurrence of a pulse of a first clock signal pulse, and terminating the PWM pulse upon a level of a signal exceeding a positive window threshold.

The present embodiments are directed to circuitry and techniques for operating a switching regulator, including in connection with transitions out of energy conservation modes during which a minimal amount of current is drawn from a power source such as a battery. According to certain aspects, embodiments of an energy conservation mode include provisions for maintaining high performance voltage regulation even in the face of a sudden increase in load requirements. These and other embodiments can further include various techniques for signaling an appropriate transition for exiting out of energy conservation mode and into a continuous conduction mode.
