Disclosed is a bladder drainage apparatus comprising a tube including a hollow interior extending through the tube, a flexible anchor, which behaves spring-like, connected to or at one end of the tube, and a magnetic member connected to or at the other end of the tube. The tube is moveable when the magnetic member is engaged by an external magnetic force, creating magnetic traction, and moving the tube, e.g., outward (from its original position, where the sphincter is typically closed), such that it holds open a sphincter, allowing urine to drain from the bladder, to the urethra, to outside of the body. When the external magnetic force is released, the magnetic engagement is terminated, and the force of the flexible anchor pulls the tube back to its original position, whereby the sphincter is again closed, and accordingly urine flow is stopped or otherwise limited.

Devices for preventing and/or otherwise inhibiting biofilm formation include a lumen and/or a cavity coupled with a wall configured for holding oils, which leach through the wall of the devices to a surface, the oils at the surface creating a smooth surface coating.

A urinary stent includes ends for deployment in the kidney and bladder, respectively, that are non-coplanar. The bladder end of the stent includes a luminary groove, covered by a sleeve of materials softer than the remainder of the stent, allowing urine at sufficient pressures to pass out from the stent, between the stent and the sleeve. The bladder end of the stent adapts its shape according to respiratory changes in the length of the stent. This shape change also prevents or reduces stent related pain.

Stent and method of use

The invention provides a system treating a weak or leaking urinary or other sphincter. The system includes two magnets and one or more devices to immobilize one of the magnets on a first side of the body organ to immobilize the other magnet on the second side of the body organ. The magnets may be positioned around the body organ with opposite poles facing each other. The invention may be used to induce the formation of muscle tissue of a sphincter such as a urethral sphincter or gastroesophageal sphincter, and also for mechanically occluding a leaking urethral or vesicovaginal fistula.

A filter system comprises an expandable filter, with a first end of the filter attached to an end of a first tube, and a second end of the filter attached to an end of a second tube. The tubes are arranged telescopically with respect to each other such that telescopic movement of the first and second tubes with respect to each other causes the filter to move between a first collapsed, position and a second expanded position, where the filter extends outwardly. The filter may be a folded-over member, when in the expanded position, or a spiraling member.

An implantable device for releasing one or more substances into a body cavity such as a urinary bladder, is provided. The device includes an inner balloon located within an outer balloon so as to define a lumen between the outer and inner balloons. A first valve is used for filling the lumen; and a second valve is used for filling the inner balloon. The device is delivered to the body using a delivery catheter. The inner portion is filled with the substance or substances to be released into the body cavity. The outer balloon is filled with a substance that is chosen to impart a desired specific gravity to the device. The substances to be released may be contained in particles coated with a soluble coating. The particles may be in suspension or embedded in a matrix.

Provided is an implantable sling for supporting a body organ. The sling may be used, for example, as a urethral sling, a puborectal sling or a surgical mesh for pelvic organ prolapsed repair. The sling of the invention has a first sling element, having a first sling body and two or more slender first projections extending from the first sling body. The sling may further include a second sling element having a second sling body and two or more slender second projections extending from the second sling body, and one or more detachable connections connecting the first sling element and the second sling element. In some embodiments, the connections are configured to tear when the first and second sling elements are pulled apart.

The invention provides a system () and method for manufacturing a stent. A spraying device () sprays a polymeric suspension () onto a mandrel (). During spraying of the polymeric suspension () onto the mandrel (), the mandrel () is manipulated by a micromanipulator () to produce a continuous coating on the mandrel () having a nonuniform thickness. The polymeric coating is allowed to cure on the mandrel () to form the stent, which is then removed from the mandrel (). The method can comprise embedding a filament () in the polymeric coating and incorporating one or more drugs in the stent.

A medical device, such as a stent, having a hollow portion formed from a fashioned filament (). Between adjacent segments of the fashioned filament is a detachable seam (). After implantation of the device in the body, the device may subsequently be removed by grasping an end of the filament and pulling the end of the filament so as to detach the seam between adjacent segments of the fashioned filament, and unravel the hollow portion.

A cylindrical lining for insertion into a body lumen having a fluctuating caliber, such as a pulsating artery, peristaltic organ, or a lumen adjacent to a sphincter. The lining has a radial resistance less than a radial force applied to it by the lumen as the caliber of the lumen fluctuates so as to allow the lining to continuously conform to the shape of the lumen.

An expandable umbrella-like device for insertion into the urinary bladder of an individual. The umbrella may be used in the treatment of urinary incontinence or in treating urinary bladder dysfunctions.

Intravesical device

A resiliently flexible body having a non-spherical shape and having a magnetizable portion for use in sealing an anatomical cavity such as a urinary bladder. The body is compressed and then inserted into the cavity. In the cavity the body is experimented and positioned at the cavity outlet. The body is rotated in the outlet using a hand-held magnet between a sealing orientation in which the outlet is sealed, and a non-sealing orientation in which fluid, such as urine, can flow out of the cavity.
