A workpiece positioner assembly comprises a headstock apparatus that is configured to rotate a workpiece A headstock interface assembly is configured to secure the workpiece to the headstock apparatus and comprises a bearing configured to enable pitch, yaw and roll movement of the headstock interface assembly relative to the headstock apparatus. The workpiece positioner assembly further comprises a tailstock apparatus configured to support the workpiece in cooperation with the headstock apparatus. The tailstock apparatus comprises a tailstock interface assembly that is configured to secure the workpiece to the tailstock apparatus. The tailstock interface assembly further comprises a tailstock bearing configured to enable axial movement of the workpiece relative to the tailstock apparatus.

Flexible tooling interface for headstock/tailstock positioner

A workpiece positioner is provided including a positioner chassis, a specially designed rotary framework, and first and second sets of workpiece supports. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a workpiece positioner is provided comprising a positioner chassis, a rotary framework, and first and second sets of workpiece supports. The rotary framework defines opposite rotary framework ends and is coupled to the positioner chassis so as to be rotatable about a longitudinal framework axis. The first set of workpiece supports is positioned on opposite ones of the rotary framework ends so as to define a first workpiece axis extending between the first set of workpiece supports. The second set of workpiece supports is positioned on opposite ones of the rotary framework ends so as to define a second workpiece axis extending between the second set of workpiece supports. The first workpiece axis and the second workpiece axis lie in a common workpiece plane. The rotary framework includes a crossing structure secured to the opposite rotary framework ends and extending along the longitudinal framework axis. The crossing structure comprises supportive sheet material. The supportive sheet material is arranged so as to be intersected by the common workpiece plane. A transverse cross section of the supportive sheet material converges in the direction of the common workpiece plane.

X-beam positioner

A workpiece positioner is provided which is adapted to move a workpiece from a load/unload zone to a work zone spaced from the load/unload zone. The workpiece positioner comprises a first stationary frame, a second frame coupled to the first frame so as to be rotatable relative to the first frame about a first axis, a first drive device for effecting rotation of the second frame about the first axis, and a first workpiece holder adapted to releasably receive a workpiece. In accordance with a first embodiment of the present invention, the first holder is rotatably mounted to the second frame so that the workpiece holder and the workpiece are maintained in a substantially constant orientation relative to the first frame as the second frame is rotated about the first axis. In accordance with a second embodiment of the present invention, the workpiece positioner further includes a second drive device coupled to the second frame so as to move with the second frame. The second drive device is adapted to effect rotation of the workpiece holder about a second axis spaced from the first axis.

Workpiece positioner

A protective enclosure is provided for a laser system having a laser generator for generating and directing a laser beam to a laser workstation. The enclosure includes a housing having an inner cavity for containing the laser workstation. The housing further includes a section having an opening through which workpieces pass into and out of the inner cavity. The enclosure additionally includes a rotary turntable for moving the workpieces through the opening into and out of the inner cavity, and passive sealing members movably coupled to the section for sealing a portion of the rotary turntable with a portion of the section to inhibit laser energy from exiting the housing through the opening.

Sealing arrangement for a laser enclosure

Dressing device for the welding tips of a spot-welding machine consists of a single tool carried crosswise of a cylindrical opening in a tool holder. The tool holder has opposed slots supporting the tool, with one edge of the slots and therefore one side of the tool at the crosswise centerline of the opening. A cutting edge on that side of the tool and adjacent the tip dresses the tip to provide an essentially flat welding face. The holder and tool are rotated about the tip while the tip is held on an arm of a spot-welding machine. Preferably, when the dressing device is used in a high production situation, the tool is symmetrical and has a pair of outwardly-directed cutting edges on the centerline, simultaneously dresing two tips as they approach the tool from opposite directions.
