A communication network () includes one or more replay modules (), one or more repeaters () and one or more processors (), () and (). The replay modules are configured to connect by Radio Frequency (RF) cable () to RF interfaces () of respective Base Stations (BSs) () that provide connectivity between wireless devices () and servers () over a packet network (). Each of the repeaters is configured to wirelessly communicate with one or more wireless devices, and to further communicate with one or more BSs via respective replay modules. The processors are configured to receive messages originating from one or more of the wireless devices and destined to the servers, to process the messages to determine a scheduling plan for transmitting the messages to one or more selected BSs, and to emulate to the selected BSs transmissions of the wireless devices, by transmitting the messages to the selected BSs via the respective replay modules, in accordance with the scheduling plan.

Low power network with extended coverage

An apparatus for communication includes a transmission chain, an interference suppressor and a reception chain. The transmission chain is configured to transmit a transmitted signal. The interference suppressor is configured to produce suppression signals, by filtering reference signals drawn from the transmission chain. At least one of the reference signals is filtered in a frequency domain. The reception chain is configured to receive a signal distorted by at least an attenuated and delayed replica of the transmitted signal. The transmitted signal and the received signal are (i) synchronized in time and (ii) each includes one or more subcarriers selected from a common subcarrier-resource. The reception chain is further configured to process the received signal up to selected points, to subtract the suppression signals from the received signal at the selected points to produce an interference-suppressed signal, and to recover data carried in the received signal from the interference-suppressed signal.

Synchronized interference suppression in frequency domain

An apparatus includes a transmitter, a receiver and a combining element. The transmitter includes multiple coupling devices coupled to a coaxial network via multiple respective ports, and is configured to transmit multiple transmit signals via the coupling devices, and to receive from the coaxial network via the multiple coupling devices multiple reception signals. The receiver is configured to receive a combined signal of the multiple reception signals, interfered by multiple respective interfering signals that originate from the multiple transmit signals, and to process the combined signal to recover data carried in the reception signals. The combining element, included in at least one of the transmitter and the receiver, is configured to receive the multiple reception signals from the respective couplers, and to generate the combined signal with a suppressed level of the interference signals by setting at least a phase of at least one of the reception signals.

Downstream interference suppression in full-duplex communications

A digital synthesis channelizer includes a memory buffer and circuitry. The memory buffer stores samples of N input signals having a sampling rate Fsi. The N input signals are processed, prior to storing in the memory buffer, by an N-point time-frequency transform module. The circuitry includes at least P filters derived from a Low-Pass Filter whose stopband frequency depends on Fsi. The circuitry is configured to set a sampling time according to a predefined output sampling rate Fso=&#x3bb;&#xb7;Fsi, &#x3bb; being a predefined rate-conversion ratio, to select based on the sampling time one or more filters out of the at least P filters, and using the selected one or more filters, to generate, from at least some of the samples in the memory buffer, a filtered and interpolated output sample of an output signal that sums N digitally resampled by &#x3bb; and frequency-shifted versions of the respective N input signals.

Small-footprint digital synthesis channelizer for multiple narrowband frequency-slices

A method includes, in a transceiver (), receiving from a repeater () a received signal that includes a desired signal for reception and an undesired replica of a transmitted signal that was transmitted from the transceiver and retransmitted by the repeater. A local copy of the transmitted signal is generated in the transceiver. The local copy is matched with the undesired replica of the transmitted signal in the received signal, by adapting the received signal while retaining the local copy non-adaptive. An interference caused by the undesired replica to the desired signal is canceled, by subtracting the local copy from the adapted received signal.

Echo cancellation in communication transceivers

A digital receiver includes a memory buffer and circuitry. The memory buffer stores samples of an input signal having a sampling rate Fsi. The circuitry includes P filter-families that each includes N filters derived from a prototype Low-Pass Filter (LPF) whose stopband frequency depends on an output sampling rate Fso=&#x3b1;&#xb7;Fsi. The circuitry is configured to set a sampling time according to Fso, to select, based on the sampling time, multiple filter-families out of the P filter-families, and to construct, based on the N filters in each of the selected filter-families, N interpolated filters that are each aligned to the sampling time. The circuitry is further configured to calculate N filtered samples by applying the N interpolated filters to the samples in the memory buffer, and to generate a sample for an output signal of a frequency-slice of the input signal, by digitally down-converting the N filtered samples.

Small-footprint digital receiver for extracting narrowband frequency-slices

A method includes receiving a signal, which carries data that is encoded with an Error Correction Code (ECC), and correcting the received signal with an adaptive receiver loop. Soft input metrics for the data are computed over the corrected signal. The ECC is decoded using a decoder, which estimates soft output metrics based on the soft input metrics, by operating the decoder in an alternating pattern of external iterations that update one or more of the soft input metrics based on one or more of the soft output metrics, and internal iterations that update the soft output metrics but not the soft input metrics. The adaptive receiver loop is adjusted in a schedule that is defined relative to the pattern of the external and the internal iterations of the decoder.

A method includes accepting modulated symbols, which carry bits of a code word of a Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) code, and computing respective soft input metrics for the bits. The code word is decoded using an iterative LDPC decoding process that includes selecting, based on a predefined criterion, a number of internal iterations to be performed by an LDPC decoder () in the process, performing the selected number of the internal iterations using the LDPC decoder so as to estimate decoded bits and soft output metrics indicative of the input bits based on the soft input metrics, performing an external iteration that updates one or more of the soft input metrics based on one or more of the soft output metrics produced by the LDPC decoder, and repeating at least one of the internal iterations using the updated soft input metrics.

Iterative decoding of LDPC codes with iteration scheduling

A method includes receiving a signal, which carries data in a sequence of symbols that are modulated in accordance with a pulse shape and transmitted in accordance with a timing clock. The received signal is filtered with a matched filter whose response is matched to the pulse shape of the symbols, to produce a filtered signal. The timing clock is initially recovered from the received signal prior to filtering with the matched filter. Upon meeting a predefined condition, a switch is made to recover the timing clock from the filtered signal after filtering with the matched filter. The symbols are demodulated using the recovered timing clock, so as to reconstruct the data.

Timing recovery for low roll-off factor signals

A communication method includes operating a communication unit (), which demodulates radio signals in accordance with a first air interface and applies at least one upper-layer process to the demodulated signals. A signal is received and demodulated in accordance with a second air interface, different from the first air interface. The demodulated signal is input to the communication unit so as to cause the communication unit to apply the upper-layer process to the signal that was demodulated using the second air interface, while superseding the first air interface.

Front-end for satellite communication

A method for communication includes receiving a Radio Frequency (RF) channel containing a desired signal conforming to a first air interface and an interfering signal conforming to a second air interface. A first receiver configured for the first air interface and a second receiver configured for the second air interface are synchronized to a common frequency and timing reference. While the first and second receivers are synchronized, the desired signal is decoded from the RF channel using the first receiver to generate a first output, the interfering signal is decoded from the RF channel using the second receiver to generate a second output, and the desired signal is reconstructed while suppressing the interfering signal by jointly processing the first and second outputs.

Satellite receiver with interfering signal cancellation

A method for communication includes modulating data to produce a series of symbols defined in a signal space. The symbols are pulse-shaped using a given pulse shape. A signal, which includes a sequence of the pulse-shaped symbols (A . . .C) transmitted at a symbol rate that is higher than a Nyquist rate defined for the given pulse shape, is transmitted to a receiver (). Prior to pulse-shaping the symbols, Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) in the signal is pre-compensated for by applying a lattice precoding operation to the symbols. The lattice precoding operation confines the symbols to a predefined volume () in the signal space and is computed independently of any feedback from the receiver.

High-performance faster-than-nyquist (FTN) signaling schemes

A method and system for performing Multiple-Input Multiple-Output ('MIMO') detection that reduces complexity by decomposing MIMO detection problem into two less complex problems, Candidate List generation and Interference Cancellation ('CLIC'). Embodiments of the CLIC framework parse an N element channel output into a first set containing S elements and a second set containing N&#x2212;S elements. A first list of candidate vectors is generated from the first set of elements. A set of interference cancelled elements is generated by using the first list of candidate vectors to cancel interference from the second set of elements. A second list of candidate vectors is generated from the set of interference cancelled elements. A minimum cost is computed for each bit of the candidate vectors and from the costs a log-likelihood ratio is computed.

Candidate list generation and interference cancellation framework for MIMO detection

A novel and useful mechanism for the detection and estimation of far-end cross talk (FEXT) caused by transmissions over adjacent wire pairs or cables. The detection and estimation technique of the invention can be used to identify FET impairments in Ethernet and DSL systems. The detection and estimation scheme is performed utilizing an adaptive FEXT canceller filter for detection purposes during normal operation of the system. FEXT filter tap coefficients are determined one at a time using a mechanism shared amongst all taps. Once adapted, the filter coefficients can be used to estimate FEXT strength and to determine spectral measurements of the FEXT impairment noise.
