An aqueous NFC containing tail-seal adhesive includes:

Absorbent sheet tail-sealed with nanofibrillated cellulose-containing tail-seal adhesives

Recycle fiber bleaching includes an oxygen pre-treatment to activate the fiber for further bleaching. A preferred method of making a high brightness papermaking pulp from recycled cellulose fiber includes: (a) pre-treating a first recycled cellulosic fiber mix with oxygen, said first recycled cellulosic fiber mix having a first high Kappa number prior to pre-treatment and a reduced Kappa number after pre-treatment that is lower than said first high Kappa number; and (b) blending the pre-treated first recycled cellulosic fiber mix with the reduced Kappa number with a second recycled cellulosic fiber mix having a second Kappa number lower than the first high Kappa number of the first recycled cellulosic fiber mix; and (c) oxidatively bleaching the blended recycled cellulosic fiber mix of step (b); and optionally (d) reductively bleaching the blended recycled cellulosic fiber mix of step (c).

Oxygen treatment of high kappa fibers

A ply-bonding agent or adhesive composition characterized by a viscosity and a surface tension for the manufacture of paper tissue and paper towel, includes: (a) water; (b) nanofibrillated cellulose; and (c) one or more modifiers effective to modify either or both of (i) the viscosity of the composition or (ii) the surface tension of the composition, wherein the one or more additional modifiers are selected from the group consisting of components (iii), (iv), (v), (vi), (vii) or (viii), wherein: (iii) is PVOH and a viscosity modifier; (iv) is a viscosity modifier; (v) is a viscosity modifier and a surface tension modifier other than PVOH; (vi) is a water-soluble cellulose derivative; (vii) is a water soluble polyol; and (viii) is a surface tension modifier other than PVOH. The compositions are particularly useful for ply-bonding multi-ply absorbent sheet when the plies are treated with debonder.

Nanofibrillated cellulose ply bonding agent or adhesive and multi-ply absorbent sheet made therewith

A water-dispersible nonwoven substrate includes a structured web of fibers. The structured web has a first surface and a second surface. The first surface has substantially filled protrusions extending outwardly from the first surface and connecting regions disposed between the protrusions. The average fiber densities of the protrusions and connecting regions are substantially the same, and the fibers are individualized plant-based fibers, reconstituted cellulosic fibers, or a combination thereof.

Structured, dispersible nonwoven web comprised of hydroentangled individualized bast fibers

A multi-ply absorbent sheet includes a first absorbent ply of cellulosic sheet; a second absorbent ply of cellulosic sheet; and a ply bonding adhesive interposed between the first absorbent ply and the second absorbent ply, the ply-bonding adhesive thereby adhering said absorbent plies together. The ply-bonding adhesive comprises polyvinyl alcohol and nanofibrillated cellulose. In a particularly preferred embodiment the adhesive is applied as a dilute aqueous composition to tissue plies and the nanofibrillated cellulose has a Characteristic Breaking Length of 6.5 km or above.

Glue-bonded multi-ply absorbent sheet and polyvinyl alcohol ply bonding adhesive

A roll of absorbent sheet tail-sealed with an NFC containing aqueous tail-seal adhesive includes an NFC containing aqueous tail-seal adhesive interposed between a tail of the roll of absorbent sheet and an underlying convolution of the roll adhering the tail to the underlying convolution to form the tail-seal. The NFC containing tail-seal adhesive comprises nanofibrillated cellulose and one or more additional components selected from the group consisting of components (i), (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) wherein (i) is a water-soluble cellulose derivative; (ii) is a water soluble polyol; (iii) is a viscosity modifier other than a water soluble cellulose derivative; (iv) is PVOH; and (v) is PVOH and a viscosity modifier. The NFC containing tail-seal adhesive optionally includes a surface tension modifier other than PVOH.

A multi-ply bath tissue includes a first ply providing a first surface of the bath tissue. The first ply includes first and second layers. The first layer forms the first surface and includes a temporary wet strength resin. The second layer is substantially free from a temporary wet strength resin. A second ply provides a second surface of the bath tissue. The second ply includes first and second layers. The first layer forms the second surface and includes a temporary wet strength resin. The second layer is substantially free from a temporary wet strength resin. The bath tissue is free from regenerated cellulosic microfibers.

Soft bath tissues having low wet abrasion and good durability

The present invention is directed to an article of manufacture, which can be a fiber and or a film. In one aspect, the fiber or the film comprises a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) and an inorganic filler comprising particles having an average diameter of less than about 20 micrometers. The PVOH has a degree of hydrolysis of greater than about 95% and is present in a range between about 20 wt. % and about 99 wt. % based on the total fiber weight. Methods of making the fibers and films are also disclosed.

Polyvinyl alcohol fibers and films with mineral fillers and small cellulose particles

A cationic polyether amine dispersant for papermaking fibers comprises the polymeric reaction product of a polyether diamine, a polyether bisepoxide and a quaternary ammonium salt. The polyether diamine, the polyether bisepoxide and the quaternary ammonium salt reactants are reacted in the following molar ratios: the molar ratio of amine functionality of the polyether diamine to epoxide functionality of the polyether bisepoxide is from 0.5:1 to 2:1 and the molar ratio of the amine functionality of the polyether diamine to the epoxide functionality of the quaternary ammonium salt is from 10:1 to 40:1. The dispersant is used in stock preparation used in paper products including absorbent products as well as paperboard.

Cationic polyetheramine dispersants for preparing papermaking stock

The present invention is directed to articles of manufacture, including fibers and films, and methods of making thereof. In accordance with the present invention, the article includes a binder impregnated with or encapsulating a filler. The binder is a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), cellulose nanofibrils, or a combination of the PVOH and cellulose nanofibrils. The filler is deinking waste solids comprising ash and cellulose fines.

Fibers with filler

A cellulosic tissue includes cellulosic fibers that include at least one of (a) chemically pulped fibers and (b) mechanically pulped fibers. The cellulosic fibers include (i) a percentage by weight of eucalyptus fibers, and (ii) a percentage by weight of regenerated cellulosic microfibers. The cellulosic tissue further includes virgin chemically pulped fibers, with a percentage by weight of recycle fibers. The eucalyptus fibers have been prepared from eucalyptus chips by alkaline peroxide mechanical pulping, exhibiting an ISO brightness of at least 0.82&#xd7;(% VCP)+0.795&#xd7;(% RF)+0.84&#xd7;(% APMP), in which % VCP is the percentage of virgin chemical pulp in the tissue, % RF, the percentage of recycle fiber, and % alkaline peroxide mechanical pulping (APMP), the percentage of APMP eucalyptus.

Soft multi-ply bath tissues having low wet abrasion and good durability

A multi-ply bath tissue includes cellulosic microfibers and wood pulp fibers. The bath tissue has sufficient temporary wet strength resin to provide an initial Finch Cup cross-machine direction (CD) wet tensile of from about 2.5 to about 20 g/3 in. per pound of basis weight, decaying to less than 65% of the initial value in less than 15 minutes after immersion of the tissue in water, and a caliper of at least 5 mils per 8 sheets per pound of basis weight. At least one of the plies includes a plurality of fiber-enriched hollow domed regions having a relatively high basis weight, a plurality of connecting regions having a relatively lower basis weight forming a network interconnecting the fiber-enriched hollow domed regions of the sheet, and a plurality of transition regions transitioning from the connecting regions into the fiber-enriched hollow domed regions.
