A method for reducing a quantity of cable runs to antennas can include the step of providing a circuit of reactive elements coupled between an input terminal and at least two output terminals. The circuit can be used to separate a broadband signal into two or more disjoint expected frequency ranges. The circuit can match the impedance at the at least two output terminals to the impedance expected by the antennas. The elements of the circuit can have reactances and arrangement so that when a broadband RF signal is applied at the input terminal, two or more disjoint expected frequencies can be applied to the respective output terminals. The power at each output terminal can sufficiently match the antennas' expected power, and insertion losses can be minimized.

An apparatus for determining the salinity of an ionic sample consisting essentially of: a single current probe having a central aperture large enough to accommodate a tube that contains the ionic sample; a network analyzer electrically coupled to the current probe, wherein the network analyzer is configured to transmit power into the ionic sample when the tube containing the ionic sample is positioned within the central aperture and then further configured to measure the return loss parameter of a signal voltage waveform reflected from the ionic solution; and a reference table of reference sample properties to which the measured return loss parameter may be compared to determine the level of salinity of the ionic sample.

Method and apparatus for determining the salinity of a sample

An antenna comprising a first current probe having an aperture; a first transceiver operatively coupled to the current probe; a signal enhancer disposed approximately inside the aperture, wherein the signal enhancer comprises an inlet, a first outlet, and a housing having an internal volume, and wherein the outer dimensions of the housing are nearly equivalent to the dimensions of the aperture; a pump configured to pump electrolytic fluid through the internal volume via the inlet and the first outlet; and a first nozzle hydraulically coupled to the first outlet so that when electrolytic fluid is pumped through the internal volume the electrolytic fluid exits the first nozzle in a stream.

A broadband cage antenna about a mast of a vessel is described, containing a first plurality of wires aligned in a substantially vertical orientation and arranged circumferentially around the mast; a second plurality of wires aligned in a substantially horizontal orientation and placed around the mast, a first wire of the second plurality of wires joining, near a top portion of the mast, all the first plurality of wires, and a second wire of the second plurality of wires joining, near a bottom portion of the mast, all the first plurality of wires; and an antenna feed coupled to the second wire of the second plurality of wires, wherein the first and second plurality of wires are electrically insulated from the mast, to form a broadband antenna having a VSWR response of less than 4 over a designated frequency range.

An antenna comprising: a first current probe comprising a core of ferromagnetic material having an aperture therein; a pump comprising a nozzle, wherein the pump is configured to pump a free-standing stream of electrolytic fluid out the nozzle and through the aperture such that the stream and the current probe are magnetically coupled; and a first transceiver operatively coupled to the current probe.

Electrolytic fluid antenna

A multi-band antenna comprising a conductive structure and a plurality of current probes coupled around the conductive structure is disclosed. An existing antenna capable of generating H fields having a first signal line is converted into a multi-signal line antenna with increased frequency capabilities, by mounting a first current probe having a designated frequency range about a periphery of the existing antenna; coupling a second signal line to the first current probe; and performing at least one of transmitting and receiving via at least one of the first and second signal lines, wherein the mounting of the first current probe to the existing antenna improves a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of the existing antenna and the second signal line operates as an independent signal line for signal reception/transmission within the designated frequency range.

Conversion of an antenna to multiband using current probes

Methods and systems for determining insertion loss for a mast clamp current probe (MCCP) coupled to a monopole antenna are disclosed. An exemplary method includes determining a first power radiated by the monopole antenna across a first range of frequencies while driving the monopole antenna using a base-feed arrangement to produce a first power-frequency measurement, determining a second power radiated by the monopole antenna across the first range of frequencies while driving the monopole antenna using an MCCP-feed arrangement to produce a second power-frequency measurement and to determine impedance mismatch (MM), and determining insertion loss using the first power-frequency measurement, the second power-frequency measurement and the impedance mismatch.

Mast clamp current probe (MCCP) insertion loss determining methods and systems

A multi-band antenna comprising a tree and a plurality of current probes coupled around the tree. Each current probe is designed to receive and transmit in a substantially different frequency band than the other current probes. The current probes are positioned on the tree so as to effectively create a plurality of transmit/receive antennas such that each respective antenna has a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of less than or equal to approximately 3:1 for a given range within each respective frequency band.
