A sobriety ignition interlock system including an engine control device and a method for managing available vehicle engine power using the sobriety ignition interlock system. The engine control device includes an engine control processor (ECP) that is electronically connected in between an engine control unit (ECU), an engine sensor assembly, and a sobriety processor. The sobriety processor determines a sobriety level of a vehicle driver and sends a corresponding sobriety signal to the ECP. The ECP intercepts an engine signal transmitted from the engine sensor assembly to the ECU and manipulates the engine signal according to the sobriety signal, in order to manage the available power of the vehicle engine.

A method and apparatus for a sleep system is provided. More specifically, the invention provides a method and apparatus for an adjustable mattress that allows the user to increase or decrease the firmness of the mattress. Furthermore, the adjustable mattress has zones of adjustability thereby allowing two users to adjust the firmness of the mattress of each user's zone. The adjustable mattress is also multimodal. The motorized foundation contains adjustable massaging units that may be used for physical therapy and relaxation. Likewise, the motorized foundation may be used in relax mode to assist in obtaining sleep and awaken mode to gently awake the user by the stimulation of the adjustable mattress.

Massaging bed

An apparatus for providing a sleep support surface that includes a resiliently deformable sleep support having a person-supporting surface and a resiliently deformable layer with a substantially closed elongate opening that accommodates part of a massaging apparatus that has resistive compressive properties of a resiliently deformable layer lacking an elongate opening when the opening is closed. In one embodiment, the sleep support is a mattress having a foam layer with a slit formed therein in which a movable massager that is a massager head of the massaging apparatus is received. One mattress embodiment includes a foam submattress having a lengthwise extending slit extending substantially the length of the mattress and a mattress topper overlying the massager head.

Apparatus and method of providing adjustable support and massage to a sleep system

A personal watercraft is disclosed as including an engine and a forced air induction system including an aftermarket supercharger. The aftermarket supercharger replaces the personal watercraft's original-equipment supercharger and increases the charge of compressed air provided to the engine. The preferred supercharger incorporates a spur gear that includes a smaller pitch diameter than the original-equipment supercharger. The smaller spur gear and engine flywheel thereby provide an increased gear ratio and permit greater supercharger rotational speeds when compared with the original supercharged engine. In order to permit intermeshing engagement with the engine flywheel, the spur gear is axially offset from the original spur gear axis. However, the supercharger case maintains the same engine-mating surface as the original-equipment supercharger so that the case may be received within a complemental socket of the engine housing. Other embodiments relate to aspects of the invention applicable to original equipment and other internal combustion engine applications.

Aftermarket supercharger for personal watercraft

A centrifugal supercharger includes a case presenting a compressor chamber and a transmission chamber. An impeller in the compressor chamber is mounted to a shaft that extends into the transmission chamber. The impeller shaft is drivingly connected to a power input shaft by intermeshing gears provided on the shafts. A portion of the transmission chamber defines a fluid reservoir in which lubrication fluid is held. The intermeshing gears, as well as the bearing assemblies supporting the shafts, are located outside the fluid reservoir portion of the transmission chamber. A rotatable fluid-propelling element partly submerged in the lubrication fluid contained within the reservoir portion ensures that sufficient but not excessive lubrication fluid is supplied to the intermeshing gears and the bearing assemblies. A dedicated lubricant reserve system ensures that the required operating level of fluid is provided to, and maintained in, the reservoir portion.

Centrifugal compressor with improved lubrication system for gear-type transmission

A supercharged motorcycle () configured for mounted operation by a rider (R) is disclosed. The supercharged motorcycle () broadly includes a motorcycle () and an air induction system () configured to deliver compressed induction fluid to the intake manifold () of the motorcycle's engine (). The air induction system () broadly includes an air intake assembly () for receiving ambient air and delivering it downstream, a supercharger () in downstream communication with the air intake assembly () for compressing the air, an air delivery assembly () for delivering the compressed air to the engine (), and a drive assembly () for powering the supercharger () off of the drive train (). The entire air induction system () is positioned entirely outside of the leg-receiving areas (ALR) defined by the motorcycle () so as to not engage the rider's legs (L) and feet (F), when the rider (R) is mounted on the seat () in the normal operating position. Driving the air induction system () off of one or more components of the drive train () cooperates with the forward positioning of the supercharger () and the sleek configuration of the drive assembly () extending there between to provide an air induction system () that does not undesirably alter the overall appearance or sound of the motorcycleand does not interfere with the preferred operation thereof as is preferred by motorcycle riders, particularly Harley-Davidson&#xae; riders. A preferred alternative embodiment of the power take-off subassembly for an air induction system for a supercharged motorcycle is also disclosed in the supercharged motorcycle (). The motorcycle () includes a breakaway coupler assembly () that enables the motorcycle's drive train to continue operation in the event of catastrophic failure of the air induction system.

Supercharged motorcycle

A supercharged motorcycle is disclosed and broadly includes a motorcycle and an air induction system. The supercharged motorcycle includes a case that partly houses a drive train of the motorcycle within a first case compartment and a wet belt drive of the air induction system within a second case compartment. The wet belt drive incorporates a toothed belt that enables a slip mechanism of the wet belt drive for protecting the motorcycle engine. The two adjacent compartments of the case fluidly communicate and are configured such that the wet belt drive can be compactly assembled onto the motorcycle.

Wet belt supercharger drive for a motorcycle

A forced air induction system for use with a powered vehicle is disclosed as including a centrifugal supercharger supported by the vehicle's engine and a recirculating induction coolant system that cools the supercharger and the compressed induction fluid provided by the supercharger. The induction coolant system operates by providing coolant to the supercharger and to an intercooler of the forced air induction system. The supercharger case includes internal passageways for cooling the transmission and compressor. The forced air induction system further includes spacers and radiant heat shields for rejecting heat transferred conductively and radiantly from the engine.

Fluid cooled supercharger

The present invention provides a method for mechanically driving a supercharger and a combination harmonic pulley system and supercharger mounted on a powered vehicle including a crankshaft, the supercharger having a supercharger driveshaft and adapted to provide boost air to the intake of the internal combustion engine, driving the crankshaft which rotates the harmonic pulley system. In general the harmonic pulley system includes a harmonic balancer, a drive shaft pulley, a crankshaft bolt, an alignment structure and a drive belt. The harmonic balancer having a first and second ledge, an annular ring and a central aperture, the driveshaft pulley having an inner and outer region, the inner region includes a first shoulder and presenting a pulley aperture aligned with the central aperture, the outer region including a second shoulder and providing an engaging surface. The crankshaft bolt is received by the engine crankshaft through the pulley aperture and the central aperture wherein said driveshaft pulley is compressed towards the harmonic balancer, the first ledge receiving the first shoulder and the second ledge receiving the second shoulder, said annular ring positioned therebetween. The alignment structure aligns the driveshaft pulley with said harmonic balancer and the drive belt encircles the engaging surface and the supercharger driveshaft whereby the supercharger is mechanically driven by said harmonic pulley system.

Method and apparatus for a mechanically driven supercharger

A centrifugal compressor is disclosed as including a case, a compressor chamber, and an impeller in the compressor chamber for compressing fluid from an inlet opening and forcing compressed fluid through an outlet opening. Moreover, the compressor includes an insert rotatably supported on the case. The insert is adjacent the impeller and serves to minimize catastrophic compressor failure that might otherwise occur as a result of contact between the impeller and compressor chamber wall.

A personal watercraft is disclosed as having a forced air induction system that is particularly suitable for aftermarket installation. The induction system includes support structure for supporting the compressor in a non-cantilevered manner within the watercraft body. In supercharger applications, the induction system provides a drive arrangement for powering the supercharger that eliminates or reduces the need to remove the jet pump driveshaft. The belt drive embodiment includes a pulley having a fluid flow passageway extending inwardly from the belt-engaging surface so as to relieve any hydrodynamic forces between the belt and pulley. A body-engaging plate of the support structure is associated with a high-friction material pad for frictionally enhancing the securement of the plate to the body. The support structure further includes a fire extinguisher mount removably supporting a fire extinguisher within the interior space of the body.

Personal watercraft forced air induction system

A forced air induction system () constructed in accordance with the principles of a preferred embodiment of the present invention and configured for supplying compressed induction fluid to an internal combustion engine (E) for powering a vehicle (V) is disclosed. The illustrated forced air induction system () broadly includes a blower () for compressing induction fluid for the engine (E) and an improved carburetor hat () in communication with the blower () for delivering the compressed induction fluid to the carburetor (C). The illustrated blower () is a centrifugal supercharger. The illustrated carburetor hat () defines a neck section (), a throat section (), and an internal chamber () disposed between the neck and throat sections (). The improved carburetor hat () is configured to prevent, or at least greatly reduce, the occurrence of thrust and stack up of induction fluid within the chamber () and in this regard includes an air-diffuser vane () disposed within the chamber () so that induction fluid flowing from the inlet () must travel around the vane () to reach the outlet ().
