A radio frequency (RF) module may comprise: (a) a substrate including a plurality of integral waveguides formed therein, each of the plurality of waveguides orthogonally-oriented with respect to the one or more adjacent waveguides; and (b) a plurality of antenna radiator elements attached to the dielectric substrate and oriented such that a pair of antenna radiator elements is electrically coupled to one of the plurality of waveguides. Each of the integral waveguides is electrically coupled to electrical circuitry of the RF module.

RF module with integrated waveguide and attached antenna elements and method for fabrication

An electronic chip package includes a base defining a fluid inlet opening for receiving pressurized fluid from a fluid source and a fluid outlet opening. A dielectric body is arranged on the base and configured to support an electronic device. The dielectric body comprises a coolant flow chamber formed in a first surface thereof, and a plurality of impingement openings formed within the coolant flow chamber. The plurality of impingement openings are in communication with the fluid inlet opening of the base for generating a plurality of fluid streams to be expelled into the coolant flow chamber. The body further comprises a coolant return port formed within the coolant flow chamber and in communication with the fluid outlet opening of the base.

Integration of chip level micro-fluidic cooling in chip packages for heat flux removal

An ultrathin, low cost, beamformer with excellent RF performance and robust coaxial connections is disclosed. The beamformer includes a dielectric substrate sheet with a beamformer circuit, a preform sheet adjacent to the substrate sheet, and a conductive backing plate sandwiching the preform as well as an RF absorber. The beamformer also includes robust input and output coaxial connections in which the heads of the coaxial input and output pins are captured between the conductive backing plate and the substrate sheet and ground shrouds are attached to the dielectric substrate sheet.

Ultrathin waveguide beamformer

A method for making a dielectric-slot polarizer includes affixing plural dielectric sheets in a stack with those sheets having the greatest dielectric constant toward the center of the stack. The dielectric sheets may be fused or joined to each other by heat, pressure, or both. A dielectric support sheet is affixed by adhesive to a first side of the stack to form a partially supported stack. Slots are defined through the partially supported stack down to the adhesive. A second dielectric support sheet is adhesively affixed over the slots of the stack to define the polarizer.

A dielectric-slot polarizer arrangement includes a first dielectric polarizer plate with first elongated aperture arrangement, and second and third dielectric polarizer plates, also defining elongated aperture arrangements parallel to or registered with the first aperture arrangement. The second and third dielectric plates sandwich the first plate. The bulk dielectric constant of the first plate exceeds that of the second and third plates. The effective perpendicular and parallel dielectric constants of the first plate exceed those of the second and third plates. Ideally, the dielectric plates are free of metal.

A solar collector includes a collecting mirror defining a radiation-transparent window. A collimating mirror re-reflects the collected radiation through the window to a black-body absorber located behind the collecting mirror. A working fluid flows through the black-body absorber to absorb the resulting power and to transfer the power to a utilization apparatus. The collecting and collimating mirrors may be elongated (cylindrical), or they may be axially symmetric. The working fluid may flow through a separate tube, or simply be contained by an aperture in a block of insulation.

A beamformer includes an integrated-circuit power divider/combiner including a common port. A first transmission line extends from the common port to an individual port on the integrated circuit substrate. A first portion of a second transmission line extends on the substrate from the individual port to an integrated-circuit port. A second portion of the second transmission line extends from the integrated-circuit port vertically through plural layers of an underlying printed-circuit board stack. The characteristic impedances of the first and second portions of the second transmission line, and their combined length, are selected to match the impedance at the individual port to a standard impedance.

An element support and thermal control arrangement for an active array antenna, preferably modular, using line-replaceable units (LRUs), includes a radiating-side liquid-cooled cold plate lying parallel with a liquid-cooled TR coldplate. Antenna elements are supported and cooled by the radiating cold plate, and a beamformer lies between the radiating and TR coldplates. A plurality of column coldplates are attached to the rear of the TR coldplate and define bays or volumes in which power LRUs can be fitted in thermal communication with the TR coldplate, the column coldplates, or both.

Antenna with compact LRU array

A method for making a horn antenna array includes the steps of making first and second equal-size printed-circuit half-horn-elements, and offset-juxtaposing element pairs to make horn elements having a dielectric lip or step. A ground plane defining mutually intersecting crossed slot sets is loaded with horn elements with their lips interlocking near the slot crossings, to define the horn antenna array. The horn elements can be fed by pins extending through portions of the ground plane and into an aperture adjacent the feed elements of the horn elements. Electrical connections are made by fusion joining after the array is assembled.
