Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, obtaining a first extended cell global identifier (ECGI) of an aerial base station (ABS), determining a location of the ABS, and determining that a terrestrial base station (TBS) is within a distance threshold of the location of the ABS. Further embodiments include providing the first ECGI of the ABS to the TBS, and providing instructions to the TBS to obtain an ECGI from each terrestrial communication device (TCD) communicatively coupled to the TBS. Each of the TCDs obtain the ECGI for each neighboring base station. The TCDs provide the ECGIs to the TBS. Additional embodiments include configuring a neighboring list with the ECGIs of the neighboring base stations, and providing instructions to the TBS to identify as high priority a second ECGI of the ABS within the neighboring list based on the first ECGI of the ABS. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Methods, systems, and devices for identifying an aerial base station in mobile networks

The disclosed technology is directed towards user equipment requests for delivery of other system information block (SIB) data from a base station, in which one or more repetitions of the other SIB data transmissions can be requested in a single request. Transmitting repeated response messages reduces the need for the user equipment to retry the requesting procedure when errors occur with respect to correctly receiving a single instance of the other SIB data. The user equipment can measure signal quality and obtain reported signal quality by the base station. The user equipment determines repetition data, based on the signal quality difference, for delivery of the other SIB data. The request sent by the user equipment includes the repetition data, whereby the base station repeats the transmission of instances of the other SIB data to increase the likelihood that an instance will be correctly received and decoded by the user equipment.

Repeating system information messages delivery in advanced networks

An architecture to provide uplink power control adjustment for aerial user equipment. A method can comprise receiving report data from serving cell equipment, wherein the report data comprises an adjustment in a transmission gain value initiated by the serving cell equipment, based on the adjustment in the transmission gain value, sending, via the serving cell equipment, paging message data to a group of aerial user equipment, and based on the paging message data, instructing the group of aerial user equipment to read newly broadcast signaling messages from serving cell and update their own uplink power control mechanism.

Uplink power control adjustment for aerial user equipment serviced by terrestrial based advanced network equipment

The technologies described herein are generally directed to providing radio resources to facilitate a predicted transition to active mode by idle user equipment in a fifth generation (5G) network or other next generation networks. An example method can include predicting that a user equipment of a group of user equipment in an idle mode will transition to an active mode after passage of a time duration, starting from the predicting, that is lower than a time threshold. The method can further include identifying base station equipment that is able to provide coverage to the user equipment during the passage of the time duration before the user equipment transitions to the active mode. Further, the method can include prioritizing allocation of, within the group of user equipment, an antenna resource of the base station equipment to provide the coverage to facilitate an active mode connection by the user equipment to the base station equipment.

Allocating radio resources to idle user equipment that was predicted to transition to active mode

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying a communication device communicatively coupled to a serving base station, requesting a device type associated with the communication device from the serving base station, and determining the communication device comprises an unmanned aerial vehicle based on the device type. Further embodiments can include obtaining a geolocation of the communication device based on the communication device comprising the unmanned aerial vehicle, generating a customized radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message, which includes a reportCGI object that involves setting a discontinuous sleep state timer, which stops the data transmission and reception of the communication device with the serving base station. During this discontinuous sleep state timer, the communication device disconnects to its serving base station to read and decode the ECGI of base station associated with neighboring cells. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Methods, systems and devices for dynamically detecting cells for unmanned aerial vehicles over mobile networks

An architecture for controlling the coverage range of serving cell equipment servicing UAVs over advanced networks. A method can comprise receiving channel quality indicator values representing a channel quality experienced by aerial user equipment, based on the channel quality indicator value, determining that the channel quality being experienced by the aerial user equipment is less than a low signal quality threshold value, based on channel quality indicator value falling below the low signal quality threshold value, determining that the aerial user equipment is located at a edge portion of a broadcast coverage area cast by the serving cell equipment, and based on determining that the aerial user equipment is located at the edge portion of the broadcast coverage area, instructing the serving cell equipment to set a transmission gain value associated with the serving cell equipment to a maximum value.

Controlling coverage range for serving cell equipment servicing aerial user equipment over advanced networks

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, obtaining a first E-UTRAN cell global identifier (ECGI) associated with an aerial base station (ABS), determining a location of the ABS, and determining that a terrestrial base station (TBS) is within a distance threshold of the location of the ABS. Further embodiments include providing the first ECGI of the ABS to the TBS, and providing instructions to the TBS to indicate to each terrestrial communication devices (TCDs) communicatively coupled to the TBS to add a cell individual offset (CIO) factor to a first signal strength associated with a first signal received from the ABS. The TBS provides instructions to each of the TCDs to add a CIO factor to the first signal strength associated with the first signal received from the ABS. The second instructions includes the first ECGI associated with the ABS. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Methods, systems, and devices for offloading data traffic to an aerial base station in mobile networks

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, deploying UAVs to a geographic area based on a need to offload traffic from a terrestrial base station, instructing the base station to enforce a UE served by the base station to determine a DoA of a received pilot signal emitted from each neighboring cell and to provide determined DoAs in a measurement report to the base station, obtaining the report from the base station, wherein the report includes DoA information for a plurality of neighboring cells, analyzing the DoA information to determine, for each neighboring cell of the plurality of neighboring cells, a probability of that neighboring cell being an aerial cell, resulting in determined probabilities, and controlling an ability of the base station to perform a handover of the UE to one or more of the plurality of neighboring cells based on the probabilities. A method can comprise: receiving, from core network equipment, an instruction to travel from a first geographic location to a second geographic location, wherein the second geographic location has been determined, by the core network equipment, as representing a hotspot location; traveling from the first geographic location to the hotspot location; based on crossing a boundary associated with the hotspot location, initiating execution of a user equipment relay process that transitions the aerial user equipment from being user equipment to being aerial network equipment; and transmitting to the core network equipment that the user equipment relay process has been successfully initiated.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, identifying a plurality of mobile devices implementing an application, and identifying a group of mobile devices from among the plurality of mobile devices according to a first movement pattern of the group of mobile devices. An enhanced automatic neighbor relation ('ANR') function can estimate a plurality of terrestrial cells within a coverage area of an aerial cell. The enhanced ANR function can monitor an exchange of a serving cell unique identifier sent to a target cell and a target cell unique identifier sent to a serving cell. The enhanced ANR function can determine a serving cell type and a target cell type, wherein the serving cell type and the target cell type identify the serving cell and the target cell, respectively, as either a terrestrial cell type or an aerial cell type. The enhanced ANR function can then determine whether a serving cell neighbor relation table (“NRT”) associated with the serving cell, a target cell NRT associated with the target cell, or both would be compromised if a corresponding NR is added into the serving cell NRT and the target cell NRT.

Overcoming neighbor relation table conflicts among terrestrial and aerial cells in mobile telecommunications networks

The technologies described herein are generally directed to providing, based on a paging message, radio resources to facilitate a transition to active mode by idle user equipment in a fifth generation (5G) network or other next generation networks. An example method can include identifying an idle mode activation message. The method can further include, based on the activation message, predicting that the user device is going to request an active connection. Further, the method can include prioritizing allocation of antenna resources to the user device over different user devices in an idle state, based on a prediction that the user device will transition to an active state before the different user devices. Further, the method can include, based on the prioritizing, directing a base station to cause a beamformed signal to a predicted location of the user device to accept the active connection.

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, collecting performance information for a plurality of user equipment (UE) devices and a base station in a radio communication network, determining that one or more UE devices experience a synchronization failure attempting to connect to a base station, determining to temporarily boost transmit power of a synchronization signal block by the base station to facilitate synchronization, determining a boosted power level of the transmit power of the synchronization signal block to minimize disruption to UE devices in an overlapping area between a first cell coverage area of the base station and a second cell coverage area of an adjacent base station, transmitting the synchronization signal block by the base station at the boosted power level for reception by the UE devices, and connecting one or more UE devices to the base station.
