A hybrid client and server ranking system downloads and update from the backend system to a temporary storage location on the computing device and validates the update to the model without loading it permanently into the application by executing the update to the model with no data to generate an evaluation score and determining that validation passed or failed based on the evaluation score. Based on determining that validation passed, the hybrid client and server ranking system generates an updated model by updating the model with the update to the model. The hybrid client and server ranking system can further generate composite features comprising new features and local features currently stored on the computing device. The hybrid client and server ranking system generates, using the updated model and the composite features, a ranked list of content. The ranked list of content can be displayed on a computing device.

Hybrid client and server ranking system

Methods and systems are disclosed for sharing collections of content items in chat sessions. The methods and systems receive a request to share a first content item and present a GUI comprising a first set of options and a second set of options, the first set of options being associated with adding the first content item to a collection of content items that is accessible to a plurality of recipients, the second set of options being associated with sending the first content item to individual recipients. The methods and systems determine a set of target recipients of the first content item and select a content sharing link between a first link to the collection of content items and a second link directly to the first content item. The methods and systems send, to a target recipient, the content sharing link that has been selected.

Sharing content item collections in a chat

A content display system can control which content and how the content is displayed based on viewing parameters, such as a map zoom level, and physical distance parameters, e.g., a geo-fence distance and an icon visibility distance. Different combinations of input (e.g., zoom level and physical distances) yield a myriad of pre-set content displays on the client device, thereby allowing a creator of an icon to finely tune how content displayed otherwise accessed.

Mobile-based cartographic control of display content

A third-party user input content item is presented on a user device of a user. A first content augmentation of the third-party user input content item by a first content augmentation function is determined. A camera graphical element is presented. The camera graphical element is user-selectable to invoke a camera function and cause presentation of a first content augmentation selection graphical element. Responsive to determining a user selection of the camera graphical element, the camera function is invoked. The user is enabled to select a second user input content item and the first content augmentation selection graphical element is user-selectable to invoke the first content augmentation function.

Creating augmented content items

A map-based graphical user interface (GUI) for a public messaging platform allows a user location-based to their own expired ephemeral content. Such expired content is no longer available to other users for online viewing. The user can, however, switch the GUI between a live mode and a historical mode, access to their own expired content in the historical mode being facilitated in a manner closely similar to that for viewing live publicly available content.

A server-side administrative interface for a social media platform allows for restriction of defined geographical areas. Social media items originating from such restricted areas are automatically filtered or age-restricted for availability via a map-based graphical user interface of the social media platform.
