The present disclosure provides a lateral support for a shaft of a helical pile, the lateral support including a tubular portion for receiving the shaft and a plurality of fins extending from the tubular portion.

Supports for helical piles and anchors

A ground anchor is provided for driving into the ground for anchoring or supporting a structure. The ground anchor includes a hub with a helical load bearing plate and a pointed ground engaging end having a body with a spade point blade extending axially from the body and the hub. The blade has first and second opposing spiral major faces and first and second transverse minor spiral faces that converge at a flat axial face to form the blade with a spiral configuration. The blade has a longitudinal dimension extending at an inclined angle with respect to a longitudinal center axis of the ground anchor so that the axial face of the blade is spaced outwardly from the center axis of the ground anchor. The leading edge of the spiral blade directs the soil to the leading edge of the helical plate of the ground anchor.

Bent blade screw ground anchor

A ground anchor is provided for driving into the ground for anchoring or supporting a structure. The ground anchor includes a hub with a helical load bearing screw and a pointed ground engaging end. The ground engaging end has a blade extending axially from the hub with first and second opposing major faces and first and second transverse faces that converge at the axial end to a flat axial face. The blade has one or more diagonal frangible portions to define a diagonal break line. The breakable portion of the ground anchor penetrates the ground and breaks away from the blade when a predetermined torque or stress is applied to the blade. The breakable portion breaks away to form a ground engaging end having a dimension and surface area that is larger than the original ground engaging end.

Break-away screw ground anchor

A drive tool for connecting a member to the drive tool of a drive tool assembly includes a flange connectable to the drive tool assembly. A wall has a first portion extending axially outwardly from the flange and defining a socket for receiving a first member. The wall has a second portion extending axially from the first portion of the wall and having a circumferential extent less than that of the first portion to facilitate receiving the first member by providing a laterally and axially open alignment opening. The first member can have a second portion extending axially further than a first portion and having a circumferential extent less than the first portion to facilitate connecting a second member to the first member by providing a laterally and axially open alignment opening.

Anchoring devices for securing diverse types of structures to the earth or soil, or to rock walls and formations, such as are frequently employed for anchoring gas and petroleum-product pipelines, guy-supported towers, utility poles, large-sized retaining walls and building foundations, among numerous other types of application. In order to render each of the above-described anchoring devices more user-friendly and compatible with the environment, while facilitating the installation thereof in the applicable bore holes, drilled holes or earth trenches, while also reducing the production and assembling steps required in the manufacture of the various anchoring devices, a suitable retentive encompassing packaging structure tightly encases each of the anchoring devices which will maintain the components of the respective anchoring devices in their assembled pre-installed and retracted condition.

Earth and rock anchoring devices

A clamshell screw anchor is provided which is inexpensive to manufacture, installable in many types of soils including rocky and frozen soils, and is adaptable for use in various applications, such as supporting electric transmission poles. The screw anchor broadly includes a unitary body member, a core, and a helical load bearing element. The body member is stamped from a substantially flat piece of material, and presents a pair of opposed, elongated body segments depending from a line of symmetry. Each of the body segments includes a first end shaped to define a hub element having a C-shaped cross section, a second end shaped to define a lead point element, and a pair of longitudinally extending side edges. The body member is folded about the line of symmetry, and the body segments are secured together along the side edges so that the hub elements form a hub having an open, upper end, and a rectangular cross-sectional shape, and the lead point elements form a lead point having an earth-engaging tip. The core is positioned within the shell, and includes a first end adjacent to the first ends of the body segments, and an axially extending tapped bore formed in the first end. The core is attachable to elongated support rods used to support poles, towers, and the like. The helical load bearing element presents a leading edge, and a trailing edge adjacent to the open, upper end of the hub. The load bearing element facilitates installation of the anchor into the earth, and resists pulling and tensional forces exerted on the anchor once it is positioned.

Clamshell power installed screw anchor

An earth screw anchor assembly has peripheral edges on its hub member and intermediate flange portion of its spade member with different configurations permitting placement of the hub member on the intermediate flange portion in an asymmetrical relation overlapping and offsetting the respective peripheral edges relative to one another to facilitate application of welds thereto for attaching the hub member to the spade member. The assembly also has an attachment land formed on one side of the intermediate flange portion and protruding downwardly therefrom and being attached along and extending partially about an upper end of the lower portion of the spade member. The blade member includes leading and trailing end portions axially offset from one another and a middle portion extending between the leading and trailing end portions. The blade member at the trailing end and middle portions is attached to the hub member while the leading end portion thereof extends below and along the intermediate flange portion and is attached to the attachment land of the spade member so as to dispose the leading end portion of the blade member substantially below the intermediate flange portion and thereby below the lower end of the hub member such that the leading end portion of the blade member will engage and dig into the earth as the assembly is rotated about the longitudinal axis of said spade member before contact is made with the earth by the intermediate flange portion of the spade member and thereafter by the hub member.

Earth screw anchor assembly having enhanced penetrating capability

A lighter weight, high strength cast screw anchor is disclosed which has a hollow, installation wrench receiving hub, a helical, load bearing element projecting outwardly from the hub, and an elongated, pointed end spade integral with and extending away from the hub. The spade has two diametrically opposed, angularly disposed cutting margins located on opposite sides of the axis of the hub. The tip section of the pointed spade is offset laterally from the hub axis, so that upon installation of the anchor, the hub and helical load bearing element move in an orbital path about the axis of the tip, whereas the spade moves in an orbital path after the helical element has been installed in the ground to a depth limiting its orbital movement. The resulting anchor may be installed in dense or frozen soils with less torque and to a greater depth than heretofore available cast screw anchors.

Hollow hub helical earth anchor with improved earth penetrating

An earth anchor apparatus having reduced bending moment characteristics is provided, including a longitudinally extending hub having first and second axial ends. Affixed to the hub between the ends thereof is a radially extending load-bearing element, including a leading edge intersecting the hub and structure extending radially outward from the hub in a generally helical direction. The apparatus further includes an elongated anchor rod having first and second ends, and means for coupling the rod to the earth anchor. The coupling means includes means for reducing bending moments in the rod during movement thereof.

Reduced moment anchor hub

A low cost, easy to install underpinning apparatus (14) for supporting below-grade structural footings such as foundations (10) or the like is provided which makes use of a power installed, load-bearing helix-type screw anchor (16) together with a connecting bracket assembly (b 19) secured to the foundation (10). The anchor (16) is screwed into the earth below the foundation (10), leaving the upright end of the anchor shaft (20) adjacent the foundation (10). The bracket assembly (18) advantageously includes a foundation-engaging plate (28) with a pair of spaced, outwardly extending wall portion (30, 32) rigidly secured thereto. An elongated, U-shaped bracket (36) together with a mating retainer (42) are releasably secured to the wall portions (30, 32) and serve to captively retain the upper end of the anchor shaft (20), with the U-bracket (36) having a top crosspiece wall (38) provided with a threaded opening (40) therethrough. A threaded, force-transmitting bolt (54) screwed into the bracket crosspiece (38) engages the uppermost butt end (22) of the anchor shaft (20) so that the anchor (16) becomes a load-bearing support for the foundation (10). Rotational torque is imparted to each screw anchor during installation as a force independent of a respective support and the foundation until a predetermined torque value is achieved. The rotational torque on the screw anchor is then relieved and the dead weight and any live load of the building structure carried by the bracket assembly is transferred to the screw anchor.

Method of underpinning existing structures

A low cost, easy to install underpinning apparatus (14) for supporting below-grade structural footings such as foundations (10) or the like is provided which makes use of a power installed, load-bearing helix-type screw anchor (16) together with a connecting bracket assembly (19) secured to the foundation (10). The anchor (16) is screwed into the earth below the foundation (10), leaving the upright end of the anchor shaft (20) adjacent the foundation (10). The bracket assembly (18) advantageously includes a foundation-engaging plate (28) with a pair of spaced, outwardly extending wall portions (30, 32) rigidly secured thereto. An elongated, U-shaped bracket (36) together with a mating retainer (42) are releasably secured to the wall portions (30, 32) and serve to captively retain the upper end of the anchor shaft (20), with the U-bracket (36) having a top crosspiece wall (38) provided with a threaded opening (40) therethrough. A threaded, force-transmitting bolt (54) screwed into the bracket crosspiece (38) engages the uppermost butt end (22) of the anchor shaft (20) so that the anchor (16) becomes a load-bearing support for the foundation (10). Rotational torque is imparted to each screw anchor during installation as a force independent of a respective support and the foundation until a predetermined torque value is achieved. The rotational torque on the screw anchor is then relieved and the dead weight and any live load of the building structure carried by the bracket assembly is transferred to the screw anchor.

An earth anchor apparatus includes a hub having a longitudinal axis and first and second axial ends, and a load-bearing helix affixed to the hub. The load-bearing helix includes a generally radially extending leading edge adjacent the first end of the hub, a generally radially extending trailing edge adjacent the second end of the hub, an inner circumferential section connected to the hub, and an outer circumferential section extending radially outward from the inner circumferential section and having an outer circumferential edge separated from the inner section. A pair of opposed surfaces extend between the inner section and the outer edge and define a thickness of the helix. The thickness of the helix at the trailing edge is greater adjacent the inner circumferential section than at the outer circumferential edge, and the thickness of the helix adjacent the inner circumferential section is greater at the trailing edge of the helix than at the leading edge. In this manner, material is removed from areas of the helix where less loading stress develops during installation and use of the anchor while materials is added to areas of higher loading stress.

Earth anchor apparatus having improved load bearing element

A low-cost easy to install underpinning apparatus (14) for supporting below-grade structural footings such as foundations (10) or the like is provided which makes use of a power installed, load-bearing helix-type screw anchor (16) together with a connecting bracket assembly (18) secured to the foundation (10). The anchor (16) is screwed into the earth below the foundation (10), leaving the upright end of the anchor shaft (20) adjacent the foundation (10). The bracket assembly (18) advantageously includes a foundation-engaging plate (28) with a pair of spaced, outwardly extending wall portions (30, 32) rigidly secured thereto. An elongated, U-shaped bracket (36) together with a mating retainer (42) are releasably secured to the wall portions (30, 32) and serve to captively retain the upper end of the anchor shaft (20), with the U-bracket (36) having a top crosspiece wall (38) provided with a threaded opening (40) therethrough. A threaded, force-transmitting bolt (54) screwed into the bracket crosspiece (38) engages the uppermost butt end (22) of the anchor shaft (20) so that the anchor (16) becomes a load-bearing support for the foundation (10).

Underpinning anchor system

An earth anchor apparatus adapted to be driven by a source of rotational driving force into unbroken soil includes a longitudinally extending hub having first and second axial ends. A recess is provided in one axial end of the hub by which the anchor may be driven, and a radially extending, load-bearing element is affixed to the hub between the axial ends. An earth engaging lead tip extends axially from the second end of the hub and includes a first cutting edge extending in a direction generally transverse to the longitudinal axis of the hub and arranged to cut into and break soil encountered thereby, a front surface extending between the hub and the first cutting edge, and a second cutting edge extending between the first cutting edge and the leading edge of the load bearing element. The second cutting edge is adapted to both cut soil and guide it from the first cutting edge toward the load-bearing element along the front surface so that as soil is cut it is moved away from the unbroken soil.

Penetration of power installed anchor

A mounting assembly for supporting electrical apparatus such as transformers and the like on a utility pole includes spaced, equipment supporting brackets that are interconnected and secured to the pole by means of elongated, toothed plates. End regions of each plate extend through corresponding apertures in the brackets, and during assembly the end regions are shifted laterally and toward a narrowed portion of the aperture until a marginal edge section of the bracket next to the aperture enters a notch between adjacent teeth of the plate. The width of the narrowed aperture portion, being smaller than the overall width of the end regions of the plate except for the notches of the plate between adjacent teeth, prevents unintentional withdrawal of the plates from the brackets. A retaining spring, fixed to the bracket adjacent each aperture, ensures that the end region thereafter remains in place in the narrowed aperture portion in order to facilitate handling of the mounting assembly during installation.
