A unitized wheelend is provided. The unitized wheelend includes a hub having an inboard side bounded by an oil seal and an outboard side bounded by a retainer releasably coupled to the hub. The unitized wheelend assembly includes an inboard bearing assembly, a spacer, an outboard bearing assembly, and a spindle nut assembly.

Unitized wheelend assembly and method of installation

A vent plug for a hub cap is provided. The vent plug includes a cover and base forming a chamber. A vent plug body extends from the base and forms a cavity. A shield is coupled to the vent plug body. The shield comprises an annularly extending disc that traverses the cavity. The shield includes a connecting surface to connect the shield to the vent plug body. The shield provides a lubrication/liquid barrier to inhibit lubrication (or other liquid) from entering the cavity formed by the vent plug body and the chamber. The connection between the shield and the vent plug body allows a gas (typically air) to vent past the shield into the cavity and, when pressure is sufficiently high, to the chamber and eventually atmosphere.

A grease tool for a unitized wheelend assembly is provided. The grease tool may have a plug with a fluid conduit to place a lubrication source in fluid communication with an inner bearing and a cap with a fluid conduit to place the lubrication source in fluid communication with an outer bearing. The grease tool may include a cylindrical body having an inner bearing support and an outer bearing support. The cylindrical body has an inner rotor and disc and an outer rotor and disc where the inner rotor and the outer rotor cause the discs to move between an extended and retracted position.

A wheelend is provided. The wheelend includes a spacer having a plurality of perforations to place a hub sump in fluid communication with a cavity between the spacer and a spindle to facilitate lubricant flow.

Spacer to enhance lubrication for wheelend assembly

A wheelend assembly seal between the hub of a wheelend and a spindle shaft is provided. The wheelend assembly seal is a seal device having at least a static seal structure, a wear ring, and a dynamic seal structure. The dynamic seal structure comprises a resilient member that is biased such that in an uninstalled state, the resilient member diverges from an axially extending portion of the dynamic seal structure. When installed, the resilient member is compressed to be approximately parallel the axially extending portion and forms a seal between the surface of the resilient member and the outer surface of the spindle shaft.

Wheelend assembly seal

A nut fastener is provided for locking the nut to prevent inadvertent loosening of the nut. The nut fastener is particularly useful for tightening a wheel onto an axle. The nut fastener includes a nut, a collar and a retaining ring. The nut is unlocked by pushing on an engagement surface of the collar or by riding ratchet teeth over each other. When the collar is released, the collar locks against the nut to resist rotation of the nut.

A nut assembly is provided. The nut assembly includes a nut having a bottom extension surface and an intermediate member. The intermediate member includes at least one radially extending slot. The nut assembly also includes a washer having a base and an inner wall. The inner wall has a locking feature. The nut and the washer are operably coupled by a plurality of locking pins. The locking pin slidingly fits in the slot on the intermediate member and engages the locking feature when the nut assembly is in the installed configuration.

Lockable single piece nut assembly

Self-locking nuts help prevent the nut from backing off of a spindle or other type of threaded shaft. A single piece nut assembly is provided that is self-locking and comprises a nut subassembly and a washer subassembly. Nut and washer subassemblies are secured together, and do not require any special tools for installation or removal. The washer has an edge which is formed/rolled over a lip extending from the bottom edge of the nut when assembled to provide the unitized assembly. The nut and washer are held apart by a spring, such as a wave spring, until the washer contacts the face of the object to which the nut is being secured. At this point the spring is compressed to engage the nut with the washer, and engage holding elements located in the nut with a holding feature located on the washer and prevent movement between the washer and nut.

Single piece nut assembly

A self-locking nut includes a nut; a washer having a locking feature, the locking feature having a plurality of ridges; and at least one locking tab for slidably coupling the nut to the washer and engaging with the locking feature to resist rotation of the nut with respect to the washer.
