Filter media includes a filtration substrate having a first side and a second side, and constructed for filtering a fluid by flow of the fluid therethrough. The filtration substrate has a machine direction extending from a first end to a second end, and a cross direction extending from a first edge to a second edge. The filtration substrate includes a plurality of corrugations extending in the machine direction. The plurality of corrugations include a plurality of first crests formed along the first side and a plurality of second crests formed along the second side. The filtration substrate includes a plurality of bosses along the plurality of first crests or along the plurality of second crests and extending in a direction away from the other of the plurality of first crests or the plurality of second crests. Media packs, filter elements, and methods of making are provided.

An approach to providing folded flute ends in z-filter media is provided. The approach generally involves providing an initial deformation in a flute or corrugation to form at least one foldable tip and then folding the at least one foldable tip over. Techniques for both supported deformation and unsupported deformation are provided. Preferred corrugated media having fold arrangements, filter constructions having such fold arrangements, and filter system using such filter constructions are provided.

Fluted filter medium and process for its manufacture

Fluted filter media includes filter material having a plurality of flutes formed therein having alternating ends of adjacent flutes closed to force fluid through filter material. A first embodiment of the filter media includes tapered flutes which have the open ends of the flutes larger in cross-section than the closed flutes, wherein the upstream open flutes converge toward the downstream end and the upstream closed end flutes diverge toward the downstream end. A second embodiment includes filter media which is asymmetric formed with dissimilar upstream and downstream flute cross-sections with larger flute openings to the upstream side of the filter. A third embodiment includes filter media with an upstream edge crushed to improve flow at the upstream edge. A fourth embodiment includes filter media with the upstream sealing material recessed from the upstream edge for reducing effects from blockages at the upstream edge of the filter.

A fluted filter medium () comprising a corrugated filter sheet, where each flute () has an end closure defined by a regular fold arrangement in the corresponding corrugation. Each regular fold arrangement has at least four folds. A process for manufacturing the fluted filter medium comprising deforming a portion of each corrugation to define at least one foldable tip, and folding the said tip in order to close the corrugation.

Method of making a fluted filter media for air filter

A valve assembly includes a housing and a float. The housing is constructed and arranged to inhibit movement of the float between a resting position to a position where it is situated in its valve seat, unless a selected liquid volume within the valve housing is attained. In one embodiment, a series of projection members or rings creates a tortuous path, such that there is no clear path for the float to reach the valve seat. In another embodiment, vacuum pressure is created between the float and its cup support. Still other embodiments utilize magnets, springs, linkages, and bent wires. Methods for preventing liquid ingestion into an engine through an air intake are also provided.

Valve assembly for preventing liquid ingestion and methods

A process for installing a fiber wrap or a packing material in a tubular construction, for example a muffler assembly, includes a step of compressing a mat of packing material by removing at least a portion of air from the mat of packing material. The mat is oriented against a tubular wall. After the step of orienting the mat, a shell, such as a muffler shell, is oriented over and against the mat. The step of compressing a mat may include drawing a partial vacuum through a perforated tubular wall, where the perforated tubular wall is the tubular wall that the mat is oriented against. Alternatively, the step of compressing a mat may include drawing a partial vacuum through the perforated wand inserted into the mat. Apparatus for installing the packing material can include a mandrel, a pump apparatus, and a sealing arrangement; or, the apparatus can include a wand and a vacuum pump.
