A hard disk drive includes multiple disk media mounted on a spindle, where the outer diameter of each disk medium is offset from the inner diameter of the disk medium in a same direction along an axis of rotation of the spindle, and a load/unload ramp positioned, based on the offset, to align in correspondence with the outer diameters of the disk media. Thus, the curvature of irregular disk media, such as that associated with thinner and thinner disks, is mitigated by grouping similarly-characterized irregular disks together on a given spindle and compensating the ramp accordingly.

A disk drive includes a disk drive base and a disk rotatably mounted to the disk drive base. First and second permanent magnets are fixed to the disk drive base. An actuator is pivotably mounted to the disk drive base. The actuator defining an actuator pivot axis about which the actuator pivots. The actuator includes an actuator coil disposed between the first and second permanent magnets. An actuator latch is disposed adjacent to the actuator. The actuator latch includes a biasing element that comprises a ferromagnetic material. An overlapping portion of the first permanent magnet overlaps the second permanent magnet as viewed from a viewing direction that is parallel to the actuator pivot axis. A protruding portion of the first permanent magnet does not overlap the second permanent magnet as viewed from the viewing direction.

A head stack assembly (HSA) for a disk drive includes an actuator body, at least one actuator arm extending from the actuator body, and a flexible printed circuit (FPC). The FPC includes first and second pluralities of electrically conductive FPC traces, each having a distal portion that terminates at a respective one of a plurality of FPC bond pads. The HSA also includes a head gimbal assembly (HGA) having a laminate flexure with a plurality of electrically conductive flexure bond pads that are bonded to the plurality of FPC bond pads. A width of at least one of the first plurality of FPC traces is greater than a width of at least one of the second plurality of FPC traces. The distal portion of at least one of the first plurality FPC traces includes a first opening therethrough, for example less than 1 mm from its corresponding FPC bond pad.
