An antenna transmission system includes a dual-feedline tapered slot antenna configured to generate a radiated output signal in response to a radio frequency (RF) signal. A power divider is configured to split a source RF signal into a plurality of RF feed signals. A plurality of transmitting amplifiers convert the plurality RF feed signals into a plurality of amplified RF feed signals; and a plurality of feedlines deliver the plurality of amplified RF feed signals to the dual-feedline tapered slot antenna. The dual-feedline tapered slot antenna generates the radiated output signal in response to the plurality of amplified RF feed signals.

A base block of a flare antenna may be made by: forming a ground plane on a base insulating layer; forming an intermediate insulating layer over the ground plane; patterning radiating and shorting traces on the intermediate insulating layer; forming a top insulating layer over the radiating and shorting traces; forming a top metallization layer; connecting the top metallization layer to the ground plane with vias passing through the intermediate insulating layer; and forming a via that contacts the radiating trace and passes through the ground plane and is not in electrical contact with the top metallization layer or the ground plane.

In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, methods and systems for radiating elements are provided. In a method embodiment, a method of forming a radiating element includes forming a pair of conductive fingers having first and second portions. The first portion is a dipole arm. The conductive fingers are separated by a tapered notch that has a width at a first end that is less than a width of a second end. For each conductive finger, the method also includes capacitively coupling the first portion of the conductive finger to the second portion of the conductive finger.

A system for steering a beam includes a main reflector that receives a signal from a subreflector and reflects the signal in a reflection direction. A prism refracts the signal in a refraction direction. One or more motors adjust a relative orientation between the main reflector and the prism to change a relative orientation between the reflection direction and the refraction direction to steer a beam resulting from the signal.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, a conformal channel monopole array antenna includes a base plate having a continuous electrically conducting channel formed therein, and a substrate coupled to the base plate. The feed lines are configured to couple to respective ones of a plurality of transmission elements.

A phased array antenna having a low profile (approximately &#x215b; wavelength) wide bandwidth (approximately 50%). The invention teaches making such an antenna using open channel resonators and monopole wave launchers. The wave launchers may conveniently be made on circuit card assemblies with strip lines that mimic coaxial cable monopole wave launchers. The channel resonators may be made in sections that are soldered to the circuit card assemblies. The circuit card assemblies have plated through holes that trace the edges of the resonator sections to provide electrical continuity.

A reflect array antenna comprises a non-electrically conductive substrate with an array of antenna elements supported on the substrate. Each antenna element comprises a plurality of patch radiating elements arranged in rows and columns. Each patch radiating element comprises a plurality of notches formed in the element, the notches being angularly displaced around the circumference of the element. A plurality of stub short transmission lines are individually positioned in each of the plurality of notches and a plurality of switches individually couple one end of a notch to one of the plurality of stub short transmission lines.
