A loading device primarily for injecting granular plastic material into molding or extrusion machines includes a tee chamber connected to a source of the material. A filter and screen are supported on a top plate interposed between the filter and the tee chamber. A baffle is located in the tee chamber to deflect the solid material to a sight glass assembly, while air and fines flow toward the screen and filter. A second or middle plate is inserted between the tee chamber and the sight glass assembly. A bottom plate supports the sight glass and is part of an end bell which includes a quick connect and disconnect sleeve for attachment to the associated machine. A plurality of support rods and threaded members secure the top plate to the middle or second plate, and the middle or second plate to the bottom plate. A level sensor is secured to a bracket fastened to two support rods such that the level sensor senses the level of material in the sight glass and controls a source of air carrying the material to the loading device.

Small material transfer system

A reservoir sight glass assembly forming part of a material transfer system for loading lightweight granular plastic material into injection molding machines and the like is connected to the associated machine and to a light weight pressure relief chamber attached to the reservoir sight glass assembly, both connections being by quick disconnect devices. The reservoir sight glass assembly includes a sensor adjustably positioned against the sight glass which responds to the level of material in the reservoir sight glass assembly and a magnet assembly which traps ferrous contaminants and prevents their entering the machine. The flow of material to the pressure relief chamber is controlled by the sensor which turns a regulated source of compressed air on or off depending upon the sensed level of material in the reservoir sight glass assembly. The magnetic assembly includes a pivotable mounting for a pair of magnets which, in one position, create a magnetic field across the reservoir sight glass assembly and in another position, employed when the reservoir sight glass assembly is removed from the associated machine, to effectively remove the magnetic field permitting any trapped ferrous contaminants to drop out of the reservoir sight glass assembly.

Reservoir sight glass assembly for material processing machine

A material transfer system for loading lightweight granular plastic material into injection molding machines and the like includes a reservoir sight glass assembly connected to the associated machine and a lightweight pressure relief chamber attached to the reservoir sight glass assembly, both connections being by quick disconnect devices. The reservoir sight glass assembly includes, a sensor which responds to the level of material in the sight glass and a magnet assembly which traps ferrous contaminates and prevents their entering the machine. The flow of material to the pressure relief chamber is controlled by the sensor which turns a regulated source of compressed air on or off depending upon the level of material in the sight glass. The air source is connected to an accelerator and vortex unit which is, in turn, connected to a source of the material. When air is supplied to the accelerator and vortex unit, it is injected into the downstream side of a venturi causing a vacuum which pulls the material into the air stream and then carries it to the pressure relief chamber. To avoid packing and caking of the fines at the throat of the venturi, a small reverse air flow jet is included to provide some turbulence at the venturi input.
