The NOadsorber catalyst comprises a first layer consisting essentially of a support material, one or more platinum group metals disposed on the support material, and a NOstorage material.

NOadsorber catalyst

An exhaust system for treating an exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system comprises a modified lean NOtrap (LNT), a urea injection system, and an ammonia-selective catalytic reduction catalyst. The modified LNT comprises a first layer and a second layer. The first layer comprises a NOadsorbent component and one or more platinum group metals. The second layer comprises a diesel oxidation catalyst zone and an NO oxidation zone. The diesel oxidation catalyst zone comprises a platinum group metal, a zeolite, and optionally an alkaline earth metal. The NO oxidation zone comprises a platinum group metal and a carrier. The modified LNT stores NOat temperatures below about 200&#xb0; C. and releases at temperatures above about 200&#xb0; C. The modified LNT and a method of using the modified LNT are also disclosed.

Exhaust system with a modified lean NOx trap

A NOtrap catalyst is disclosed. The NOtrap catalyst comprises a noble metal, a NOstorage component, a support, and a first ceria-containing material. The first ceria-containing material is pre-aged prior to incorporation into the NOx trap catalyst, and may have a surface area of less than 80 m/g. The invention also includes exhaust systems comprising the NOtrap catalyst, and a method for treating exhaust gas utilizing the NOtrap catalyst.

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) storage catalyst

An exhaust system for treating an exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system comprises a modified lean NOtrap (LNT), a urea injection system, and an ammonia-selective catalytic reduction (NH-SCR) catalyst. The modified LNT comprises platinum, palladium, barium, and a ceria-containing material, and has a platinum:palladium molar ratio of at least 3:1. The modified LNT stores NOat temperatures below about 200&#xb0; C. and releases the stored NOat temperatures above about 200&#xb0; C. The urea injection system injects urea at temperatures above about 180&#xb0; C.

An oxidation catalyst for treating an exhaust gas from a diesel engine, which oxidation catalyst comprises: a first washcoat region comprising a first platinum group metal (PGM), a first support material and a NOstorage component; a second washcoat region comprising platinum (Pt), manganese (Mn) and a second support material; and a substrate having an inlet end and an outlet end.

A zoned catalyzed substrate monolith comprises a first zone and a second zone that are arranged axially in series. The first zone comprises a platinum group metal loaded on a support and a first base metal oxide or a first base metal loaded on an inorganic oxide. The first base metal oxide is iron oxide, manganese oxide, copper oxide, zinc oxide, nickel oxide, or mixtures thereof. A diesel engine aftertreatment system comprises a diesel engine having an exhaust manifold and a filter substrate in direct connection with the exhaust manifold without any intervening catalyst, wherein the filter substrate comprises on its inlet side an SCR catalyst incorporating a non-coking molecular sieve.

Exhaust system for a lean burn IC engine

A NOtrap, and its use in an exhaust system for internal combustion engines, is disclosed. The NOtrap comprises a substrate and three layers on the substrate. The first layer comprises a first platinum group metal, a first NOstorage component, and a first support; the second layer comprises a second platinum group metal, a second NOstorage component, and a second support; and the third layer comprises rhodium and a third support. The platinum group metal loading in the first layer is from 1 to 40 percent of the platinum group metal loading in the second layer. In addition, the first NOstorage component and the second NOstorage component are the same, and the first support and the second support are the same. The NOtrap is less prone to deactivation over numerous desulfation/NOtrap regeneration cycles.

An apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a lean-burn internal combustion engine, engine management means and an exhaust system for treating exhaust gas of the engine. The exhaust system comprises a first oxidation catalyst disposed on a first honeycomb monolith substrate. The first oxidation catalyst comprises platinum supported on a first metal oxide support comprising at least one reducible oxide, and is substantially free of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. The engine management means is arranged, when in use, intermittently to modulate the lambda composition of the exhaust gas entering the first oxidation catalyst to a rich lambda composition.

Oxidation catalyst for a lean burn internal combustion engine

A NOabsorber catalyst comprising a substrate monolith coated with one or more washcoat layers and comprising a first component comprising a nitrogen oxide storage component, at least one precious metal and a dispersed rare earth oxide supported on a refractory support material, and a second component comprising a precious metal supported on a bulk reducible oxide that is substantially free of nitrogen oxide storage material, wherein the precious metal present in the second component comprises Pt, Pd or a combination of both Pt and Pd and wherein the bulk reducible oxide is an oxide, a composite oxide or a mixed oxide comprising at least one of manganese, iron, cobalt, copper, tin or cerium.
