A transmit power optimization and rate-control system includes a transmitter circuit having one or more power amplifiers transmit radio-frequency (RF) signals at a transmission (Tx) rate and a Tx power level. A receiver circuit receives RF signals, decodes the received RF signals and provides one or more Tx status feedbacks. A rate-control module adjusts the Tx rate based at least on a channel condition. A probing engine generates at least two consecutive frames at a first Tx power level, and a second Tx power level in response to a trigger causes the transmitter to transmit the at least two consecutive frames, and processes respective Tx status feedbacks received in response to transmission of the two consecutive frames in order to optimize the Tx power of the transmitter.

Rate control with transmitter power optimization

A method for channel smoothing with transmit beamforming includes transmitting, by a first device, a non-data-packet (NDP) frame to a second device. The method also includes receiving, by the second device, the NDP frame and transmitting a compressed report to the first device. The method further includes receiving, by the first device, the compressed report and deriving a first beamforming matrix from the compressed report. A second beamforming matrix is generated employing a processing known to the second device, and a data frame is transmitted to the second device using the second beamforming matrix.

Channel smoothing with TX beamforming

An apparatus includes a demapper to receive a number of bit streams received by multiple radio-frequency (RF) antennas. The demapper can compute a first reliability metric associated with a first stream and a second reliability metric associated with a second stream. A channel decoder processes the first and the second reliability metrics to recover decoded data. The demapper is a reduced complexity demapper and uses a symbol subset of the first stream to compute, by employing look-up tables, the second reliability metric for the second stream.

An apparatus includes a demapper to compute a reliability metric associated with a number of bit streams received by multiple radio-frequency (RF) antennas. The apparatus further includes a channel decoder in a feedback loop with the demapper to process the reliability metric and to provide a feedback signal to the demapper. The demapper is an iterative demapper and can use a symbol subset of at least a first stream of the plurality of bit streams and the feedback signal to compute the reliability metric for a second stream of the plurality of bit streams.

High peak-to-average ratio of OFDM signals requires large back-off from an RF power amplifier's saturation power. A spectral shaper device therefore increases the output power and efficiency of the power amplifier. The shaper device performs linearization through digital predistortion, based on an out-of-band regrowth limit, as well as the EVM requirement for a particular data rate. The shaper can distribute the error energy, precisely, over frequencies such that each of the inband and out-of-band requirements is independently and individually met. The shaper distributes error energy to frequency regions in the spectrum to the maximally allowed by the standards and regulations, while not increasing the total error. The error energy is kept to the minimum where it is crucial in meeting EVM requirements. In this way, the shaper maximizes the allowable output power of the nonlinear power amplifier.

Systems and methods for staged connectivity and sleep mode are provided. Embodiments of the present disclosure optimize power consumption for a user across user devices by creating an ad hoc co-located network of user devices and establishing a device in the co-located network to act as a master (hub) device. In an embodiment, the system includes multiple user wireless devices and a network controller. The network controller identifies a set of proximate wireless devices and the power capability for each wireless device in the set. The network controller then selects a wireless device in the set to act as the hub (master) wireless device based on factors such as the power capabilities of each wireless device. The network controller then instructs the other wireless devices in the set to power down and instructs the appropriate network providers to handover communications to the hub (master) device.

Systems and methods for sleep mode and staged connectivity in multi-RAT environments

A system that includes combiner circuitry configured to combine a first signal and a second signal to generate a third signal, wherein said third signal is output for transmission onto a communication medium. The system also includes nonlinearity modeling circuitry configured to model a nonlinear response of a nonlinear circuit, and generate a fourth signal through nonlinear distortion of a fifth signal using said model. The system also includes bin modification circuitry configured to generate said second signal through application of one or more weighting factors to frequency bins of said fourth signal, or of a transformed version of said fourth signal, and determine said weighting factors based on a difference, or squared difference, error metric.

A method, circuit and system for transmission, receiving and processing of video data between a video source transceiver and a video sink transceiver. Video data or information to be transmitted, which instructs an image processor associated with a video sink to modify a previously video frame into a current frame. A Delta Frame may include one or more Grid Based Predicted Error ('GBPE') Values. The GBPE may be generated by source-side image processing logic using processes or techniques similar to those described in the MPEG and/or H.264 Standards, with the exception that the prediction error values may be calculated relative to a noisy predicted frame (e.g. based on an analog reception of a base frame) which has been grid quantized based on video sink transceiver SNR (e.g. substantially each pixel value in the predicted frame is rounded off up or down to a value on some grid).

A transmitter comprises at least one nonlinear circuit, and a power spectral density (PSD) shaping circuit. The PSD shaping circuit is operable to receive a symbol of a modulated signal, wherein the symbol corresponds to a first one or more frequency bins. The PSD shaping circuit is operable to perform iterative processing of the symbol, wherein each iteration of the processing comprises: generation of a pre-distortion signal based on a model of the at least one nonlinear circuit, wherein the nonlinearly distorted signal corresponds to a second one or more frequency bins; and combination of the symbol, or a pre-distorted version of the symbol, with the nonlinearly-distorted signal. The generation of the pre-distorted signal may comprise generation of a nonlinearly-distorted signal, and adjustment of one or more components of the nonlinearly-distorted signal.

A data value to be transmitted from a data source transmitter or transceiver to a downstream receiver or transceiver may be Shannon mapped, by functionally associated processing/mapping logic, to a point on a shape within a higher dimensional plane. Different portions of the shape, for example branches of a spiral, may be designated by a portion or branch number. Coordinates of the Shannon mapping, or another descriptors, of the Shannon mapped point may be transmitted using analog transmission methods. A set of data values may be Shannon mapped and transmitted to a downstream receiver/transceiver in series. For each set of mapped and transmitted data values, processing logic may calculate a branch ambiguity resolution factor. The branch ambiguity resolution factor for each set of values may be transmitted to the downstream receiver/transceiver before, after or with the data values. Decoding logic associated with the downstream receiver/transceiver may then use the branch ambiguity resolution factor to convert/decode received coordinates associated with the set of values into the data values.

A method and an apparatus for multitone modulation to transmit at least two packets of data, each comprising a plurality of symbols, to provide inter-packet interleaving. The method utilizes a plurality of tones of different frequencies to transmit the data symbols of the two packets. Transmission of successive data symbols of a first data packet and of a second data packet are delayed over time, such that during at least one symbol period the tones are transmitting at least one first packet data symbol and at least one second packet data symbol. A further embodiment comprises a method for multitone modulation to transmit at least two packets of data which utilizes a plurality of modulation codes to transmit the data symbols of the two packets. The modulation codes comprise a set of orthogonal modulation codes, or the data can be modulated in accordance with CDMA modulation.
