A method of operating a storage system may include allocating a first partition of a tier of storage resources to a first client, wherein the tier operates at least partially as a storage cache, allocating a second partition of the tier of the storage resources to a second client, monitoring a workload of the first client, monitoring a workload of the second client, and reallocating the first partition of the tier of the storage resources to the first client based on the monitored workload of the first client and the monitored workload of the second client. The method may further include reallocating the second partition of the tier of the storage resources to the second client based on the monitored workload of the first client and the monitored workload of the second client.

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to a system comprising a processing unit executing an enumeration process over a high performance I/O network having endpoint locations that can be populated with endpoint devices. The system further comprises endpoint emulators to represent endpoint devices at endpoint locations unpopulated during the enumeration process. The system facilitates accessing certain endpoint devices later inserted (e.g., hot plugged) into the endpoint locations that were unpopulated during the enumeration process. The endpoint emulators can be implemented using various techniques, such as cards plugged into card slots coupled to the endpoint locations, or emulation software and/or firmware exposed to the processing unit. In an embodiment, the system is a test system for testing endpoint devices (e.g., PCIe SSDs), which test system can facilitate hot plugging of units under test in test slots that were unpopulated during the enumeration process.

A system for transferring data from a disk drive to an external source. The disk drive includes a circuit with embedded firmware that associates internal and output definitions with the data. The definitions and data are provided to the external source which parses the definitions and the data. The parsing engine can output the data in pre-defined format. The embedded firmware associates the same definitions for all data. Thus an external programmer does not have to know, or monitor, the file format and output format of the disk drive to write an external software application.
