This invention relates to a water barrier gel composition comprising from about 0.1 to 5% by weight of water absorbent material and from about 95 to 99.9% by weight of water, based on the weight of the total composition, and a method of applying a layer of said water-barrier gel composition to a surface to prevent ignition or to protect the surface from heat damage.

Novel low temperature cleaner

A cleaning composition for the removal of soils containing free or combined organic acids comprising (A) at least 1% by weight of a substance selected from the group consisting of (1) at least one alkali metal salt of a weak organic acid, said salt melting at elevated temperatures, preferably below about 550.degree. F and said weak organic acid constituent part being volatile and/or decomposing at said elevated temperatures on contact with said soil or (2) mixtures of salts thereof, the mixtures having melting points lower than the cleaning temperature, preferably less than 550.degree. F; and (B) up to 99% by weight of a carrier. The novel method of cleaning soils containing free or combined organic acids comprises applying the said salt or salts of weak organic acid to said soil, heating the salt(s) and soil above the melting point of the said salt(s) and then removing the residue.

A flavored chewing gum is provided which contains a water-insoluble gum base, and one or more finely divided poorly water-soluble sweetening agents, such as the free acid form of saccharin and/or one or more finely divided poorly water-soluble food acids, such as fumaric acid, succinic acid or adipic acid, dispersed in the gum base. The finely divided sweetening agent and/or finely divided food acid undergo controlled release from the gum base for relatively long periods, for example, for 30 minutes or more, during which time the chewing gum delivers a balanced sweet and non-sour or sour taste.

A chewing gum is provided which includes a coated chalk-containing base and contains a poorly water-soluble sweetening agent, such as the free acid form of saccharin, and/or food acid, the sweetening agent and/or food acid being coated with an edible coating agent. The coating agent inhibits reaction of the free acid or food acid with chalk (CaCO.sub.3) and thus inhibits formation of soluble salts which are quickly solubilized in the mouth.

A flavored chewing gum is provided which contains a water-insoluble chalk-free gum base, a slowly or poorly extractable or poorly water-soluble sweetener in particulate form, such as the free acid form of saccharin or free cyclamic acid, and optionally, a slowly or poorly extractable or poorly water-soluble food acid in particulate form, for example, fumaric acid, dispersed in the gum base. The particulate sweetener and food acid (where present) undergo controlled release from the gum base for relatively long periods during which time the chewing gum delivers a sweet taste unaccompanied by a metallic or bitter after-taste.

A method of forming a bright-drying floor finish on a resilient flooring comprising applying a polish containing an aqueous dispersion of fine particles of a resin with a Tg of 30.degree. to 80.degree.C to a flooring, preferably a resilient flooring, with at least one of said polish or said flooring having been preheated to a temperature above the glass transition (Tg) temperature of said resin, and drying said polish to produce said bright-drying floor finish.
