A hemodialysis system including one or more ultraviolet chambers is disclosed. The hemodialysis system including a dialyzer arranged and configured to filter a patient's blood, a hemodialysis machine arranged and configured to pump, move, or the like dialysate through the dialyzer, the hemodialysis machine including an outlet valve and an outlet fluid flow path to pump or move dialysate from the hemodialysis machine to the dialyzer, and an inlet valve and an inlet fluid flow path to pump or receive dialysate from the dialyzer, and one or more ultraviolet chambers arranged and configured to kill bacteria, viruses, or a combination thereof. Thus arranged, by incorporating one or more ultraviolet chambers in strategic areas of the system, the ultraviolet chambers may eliminate, or at least greatly reduce, the possibility of cross-contamination in, for example, the dialysate, and thus eliminate the need for disinfecting the system between treatments.

A medical wetness sensing device includes a cover, a first and second electrically conductive portions housed in the cover, an electrically insulative portion housed in the cover, and a compressible portion. The cover defines an outer surface. The first and second electrically conductive portions are exposed along an inner surface of the device. The first and second electrically conductive portions are configured to transmit a test signal indicating an absence or presence of a liquid on the inner surface. The electrically insulative portion electrically isolates the first electrically conductive portion from the second electrically conductive portion. The compressible portion is flexible, compressible, and configured such that the inner surface of the device is conformable to skin of a wearer of the device. The compressible portion is formed by at least one of the cover, the first and second electrically conductive portions, and the electrically insulative portion.

Medical wetness sensing devices and related systems and methods

A sorbent canister utilized when performing a dialysis treatment during hemodialysis (HD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD) is provided. The sorbent canister includes inlet and outlet ports that include a threaded interface for connection to inlet and outlet tubes for circulation of dialysate through the sorbent canister. Upon disconnection from a dialysis machine, a pressure relief cap can be threaded onto the threaded interface to seal the fluid in the sorbent canister while allowing for off-gases to be expelled when a pressure within the sorbent canister exceeds a threshold pressure, thereby preventing a rupture in the canister body. In one embodiment, the pressure relief cap includes a deformable insert with a hole formed therein that is closed in an uncompressed state and opened in a compressed state. In another embodiment, the pressure relief cap includes a diaphragm that mates with a feature of the inlet or outlet port.

An assembly comprises a manifold configured to couple to a medical fluid cassette and a multi-lumen tube comprising a plurality of lumens within an outer wall of the multi-lumen tube. The manifold has a plurality of fluid connection ports and can be connected to the multi-lumen tube (e.g., via an adapter).

Dialysis machines and methods for heating dialysate before delivery into a dialysis patient (e.g., peritoneal dialysis machines) may comprise a dialysis machine including one or more internal cooling components configured to expel heated air from the dialysis machine. A receptacle may be configured to receive one or more containers of dialysate. The one or more containers of dialysate may be positionable relative to the expelled heated air of the dialysis machine. The expelled heated air may be flowable around the one or more containers of dialysate to increase a temperature of the dialysate. The receptacle may include a stand for positioning the dialysis machine such that the expelled heated air is directed around the one or more containers of dialysate.

Devices, systems, and methods for heating dialysate for dialysis machines

Medical fluid tubing described herein is configured to be advantageously tolerant of kinking and/or crushing. That is, the tubing is configured such that even if the tubing is kinked or fully compressed at least some portion of the lumen defined by the tubing will remain open, and some fluid will continue to flow through the tubing. Such kink and compression tolerant medical tubing can be advantageously used in association with medical fluid pumping systems (e.g., peritoneal dialysis systems and the like). In some examples, the tubing described herein is used in conjunction with, or as a part of, a medical fluid cassette that interfaces with such medical fluid pumping systems.

An electrical sensor for sensing electromagnetic properties of process fluids in a dialysis machine or a similar medical device can include a probe for interfacing with the fluids that is made from electronic fabric materials. The electronic fabric probe can include one or more conductors embedded in a non-conductive fabric layer. The electronic fabric probe is accommodated an enclosure which establishes a flow path with respect to the probe to establish fluid contact between the process fluids and the conductors. The conductors can apply or sense current and/or voltage with respect to the fluid. A portion of the electronic fabric probe can be disposed externally of the enclosure to provide electronic communication externally of the enclosure.

A method and device for masking noise from a dialysis machine, as an example of a medical device, includes tubing or a fluid container, or both, being connectable to a patient for flowing fluid to or from the patient, and one or more sensors configured to detect one or more patient parameters. The dialysis machine further includes a controller configured to determine a sleep state of the patient based on the one or more patient parameters detected by the plurality of sensors, and adjust a masking sound in response to the sleep state of the patient. The masking sound is activatable in response to noise generated during operation of the dialysis machine.

A sensor having a substrate is provided in which structures are disposed on a surface of the substrate. The structures can be, e.g., nanostructures. Polarized light is directed toward the sensor, and birefringence of the structures with respect to the light is measured. Target particles that interact with the structures are detected based on changes in the measured birefringence.
